Detachment The basic infantry unit of the Allanean Army consists of ten troops. These troops are normally armed with either a short-barreled variant of the ABR-8 rifle, or the full lengths version, according to their duties. For example, the driver of an IFV will be deployed carrying a short-barreled rifle, and so will the gunner of the vehicle. All troops also carry a .45 handgun of some form, or a .50AE handgun in the case officers. The following is the list of the different troops in the Allanean infantry detachment, with a list of their duties and weaponry:
During an advance, all of the troops except the driver and gunner normally advance in a walking/running pace, spread out over a 30-meter front, with the IFV advancing slowly approx. 25 meters behind the line of infantry, providing fire support with it's heavy weaponry, which is usually pretty overkill with Allanean vehicles. Five such detachments constitute a platoon, which is also assigned a single MBT. In normal advancement, the MBT advances slowly in front of the infantry, clearing their path with it's main cannon and other weapons. One of the detachments of the Platoon is actually a Heavy Weapon Squad, whereby the makeup is as follows: the Grenadier and Grenadier's assistant operate a 25mm automatic grenade launcher, the riflemen are replaced by the crews of a single fully-automatic mortar and a single M2HB heavy machinegun, and the machinegunner is replaced by a sniper. Beyond Platoon Level The next level of organisation is the company. If the Reader was keeping track, he knows that the Allanean platoon consists of 5 IFV's and their crews, advancing normally on a 150-meter wide front, supported by a tank. A company, however, consists of five platoons – that is, 270 men, advancing on a 650-meter-wide front. On the next level comes the battalion. That, dear Reader, is a much more complex level. It is composed of, first of all, five Mechanized Infantry Companies, that is 1,350 men. Furthermore, it has at it's disposal an artillery company, composed of 10 MRLS units and 10 155mm SP howitzer vehicles, and 50 men whose task is to man these vehicles in combat. But this is not all. At the disposal of the Battalion Commander are 10 AA mobile cannon, and 10 AA missile vehicles, styled the AA Company. Further, to make you, Dear Reader, totally happy, the Battalion Commander has at his disposal five HBT's and 25 more MBT's, styles the Armored company. Five of those Battalions, numbering 9,000 combat troops, form the Brigade. The Brigade, apart from these, also possesses under its commant an Air Force Company – numbering 100 attack and 100 transport helicopters, an Engineering Battalion with 100 IFV's and 50 D-9 combat bulldozer, as well as an Artillery Battalion numbering 50 SP cannon, 100 towed cannon, and 25 heavy 240mm cannon. In total, the brigade has 12,000 combat troops, and requires the following equipment (including IFV's and other vehicles used by the support troops:
One can easily see from this that Allanea's Mechanized Infantry troops, numbering at present 310 brigades, require the following amount of vehicles:
Clearly, the United States military is heavily undersupplied in terms of helicopters. This would serve to explain as to why so little Allanean troops are actually deployed overseas. |
