All sorts of message board activity today with the news that Brandon Saine is out 3-4 weeks after having surgery on his Meniscus. Apparently, the injury happened during Monday's practice. Also, the possibility exists he could be done for the year too depending on his recovery.

He is eligible for a redshirt year.

That stinks. This could really hurt the Buckeyes. I have never been a big fan of Maurice Wells. But we will have to see what he does with the added playing time now without Saine in the lineup.

The Dispatch is saying that Saine's injury is not serious. Says he shouldn't miss that much time.

Dispatch

QUOTE
We have just confirmed that RB Brandon Saine will not play Saturday against Northwestern.

Though there are lots of rumors buzzing around about exactly what his injury is, we don't feel comfortable reporting anything else at this point.

We can say the injury is not believed to be serious. It should not keep him out very long.

If we get any updates, we will post either here or Dispatch.com -- or both.

From what I've read and understand, a meniscus injury isn't serious per se. We know this because Maurice Clarett had meniscus surgery in 2002 and was back in about 2 weeks (he missed further time because of his shoulder). However, it's the type of surgery performed that can cause a wide variance in recuperaion time. At this point, we don't know what type of surgery he had (if he's had it yet).

I think the Dispatch wanted to post something just to get something up as they try to confirm more details.

Yea all the radio shows I heard today only said he wasn't going to be playing. They wouldn't say anything about how he was injured.

In todays paper the Dispatch updated the Saine story.

Dispatch 09/22/07

QUOTE
Saine is out

Freshman tailback Brandon Saine underwent arthroscopic knee surgery yesterday to repair torn cartilage, two sources told The Dispatch. The procedure was considered minor, and Saine could return in two weeks, though he likely won't be pushed.

Saine, a backup to Chris "Beanie" Wells, gained 88 yards and scored a late touchdown at Washington.

The injury didn't show up until midweek, and it's believed the decision for the arthroscopic surgery wasn't made until Thursday.

Hopefully he's ready to go for the Purdue game. We can't have both Beanie and Zoom nicked up for too long during Big-10 play.

I couldn't agree more. Beanie really has me worried with all these little injuries he keeps getting.

We'll be fine until he gets back. As long as he's back when the meat of the schedule comes up like Wisky, Penn State, MSU...

So, Chris is good to go for Minny and Saine should be back the next week. BuckeyeNation breathes a sigh of relief.
