sample post: Whispers through the trees... A lonely howl 'pon a solitary hill. Once, twice, three times to send a cold shiver trailing down the spine. Like two sparks in the blackest night, golden eyes danced down the elevated terrain. Massive paws struck the earth with the dullest of sound, sending puffs of dust and dirt spiraling after them. A slight breeze whistled through the trees and coursed this creature's onyx-hued pelt. A silvery orb hung in the night sky, fat and round. T’was the time of the full moon. "Tala..." The forest seemed to echo the creature's name. *I am here.* the beast would reply. "Tala..." Nature was calling out to one of its children. *Yes, we are one.* Tala answered. The female wolf indeed felt connected to all life around her. Tipping back her slender muzzle, she let loose a triumphant howl of joy. The silver moonlight danced like fire across her black fur, caressing down to the soul. It was good to be alive...
history: Tala was born a rogue. Her parents had no pack, living alone to escape the difficulties of war. However, danger was still all around them. Without a pack for protection, they were exposed to everything from starvation to bear attacks. Larger prey was hard to bring down and almost always resulted in an injury. To make matters worse, Teyen, Tala's mother, gave birth in the midst of winter to four pups. Two died at birth and the others weren't looking much better. Tala's father, Phellan, nearly ran himself into the grave trying to provide food and safety for his mate and young. As the pups grew stronger, their parents grew weaker. Phellan was running on nothing but scraps. Then one chilly morning, he never woke up. The pups were old enough to be left alone for periods of time now and had switched to solid foods. Teyen had no choice but to hunt for them. Big game was impossible to take down now. What food she found was barely enough for the pups. Like Phellan, she slowly wore down until one day, she went out to hunt and never came back. The pups, Tala and her brother Channon, were left alone to fend for themselves. It was a long and difficult struggle, with death around every corner. They learned to hunt mice and hare, becoming experts at stealth. While other pups elsewhere were playing and having fun, Tala and Channon were fighting to survive. They matured quickly; Tala into a beautiful, black she-wolf: witty, kind, and a master of stealth. Channon, into a strong, dark gray male: gentle, trusting, considerate. They worked in a perfect team, brother and sister. But nothing lasts forever... One warm summer morning, the two came upon a male bear, fueled by the testosterone of mating season. Knowing instinctively that this meant trouble, they gave him a wide berth. His scent was everywhere, drowning all other's out. Too late did they realize the danger ahead: his mate. Impregnated and annoyed, she was in no mood for wolves. One swipe sent Channon flying. Tala, always the quicker, dodged the deadly claws to run to his side. This did not stop the bear, however. She followed, too furious to stop. Once again, she raised those deadly claws, intent on striking down the second wolf. Tala neither moved nor cared, her only thought being to protect Channon. The claws came down. Tala was unharmed. There, swinging from the bear's arm, fangs embedded, was Channon. Blood flowed to the ground from his wounds, but his grip never faltered. He looked to Tala, urging her to run. Horrified and afraid, she could only stare. The bear swung Channon through the air and into the ground. Here he let go, begged Tala to run, and jumped for the bear's throat. Yelps and roars ensued, but Tala never saw what happened. She ran until exhaustion wore her into the ground. She was now completely alone. It took many moons for the shock, anger, and sadness to ease, if only a little. It took all of her wiles to survive and hunt alone, but every day she grew better. Soon she could pass through the trees as a shadow, master of silence and stealth. Loneliness clawed at her heart though, and she knew it was time to find a pack...
