We hopped on the train in Pretoria. We were travelling Premier Class. Three dedicated carriadges connected onto the Trans Karroo, the regulare train.

Our compartment, two beds, no bunks, and table and a view !


We travelled south from Pretoria, through Johannesberg and the mine dumps.


And the squatter camps.


The sun set as we passed through the highb=veld and into the Karroo.

Dinner served as a single sitting.


This was our hostess.


While we ate our beds were made up.


Tea and coffee in bed the next morning.



In the morning we were in the Karroo

Had a friends and family braai at the Holtmans.

Off for a visit to the Holtmans beach-house at Die Kelders. Unusual wooden house in RSA

Next stop a short stay at a farm cottage in McGregor. The cottage -


A swim in the local dam in a shower.


The mountains of Robertson and the Langeberh

A few days left and we visited Kirstenbosch.

So that was it, back up to Johannesberg and the long flight back to Auckland
