OK guys, I have an "assignment" for ya. Anyone who is interested in analytical thinking, read on.
I'd like to compare and contrast CSI and Bones a bit. Delve a little deeper into our favorite shows to see how much we think they have in common, aside from the dead bodies, that is - What are the differences between Bones and CSI regarding things like overall mood and tone? This can range from the way the characters interract with each other on both shows to something technical like the way each one is directed and filmed, lighting, special effects, etc. - Are there any parallel characters on both shows? Can you compare any of the main characters from Bones and CSI with each other in terms of personality, roles in the investigations, social status, etc.? ~Jen |

Wow.. that's a good one jen
The mood in Bones and CSI is both sometimes really very serious and other times they are just cracking jokes, I think Bones is more into the fun side of CSI, because with all the IDNWTM moments, and the *gun*size conversation between Angie and Brennan shows that they are having fun in their jobs, while they also show how hard it is to do their job without getting to close to the victim. CSI, is alo trying to bring out the joke side, but they do it a lot less often. They are automatically a lot closer to the victim since the bodies are still fresh. ANd than again, CSI is much more 'real' because they don't use as many special effects as Bones does. The angelator for example.. they don't have stuff like that in CSI... But in Bones they also didn't have a pathologist until Cam arrived. As on the interactions between the characters.. Bones is much more stereotype I allready mentioned that.. But the rolls they play in the show.. CSI has got a few specialists, and so does Bones, they Both have a bug guy.. namely Hodgins and Grissom. Relationships in the shows are also a lot alike, Bones has first of all Cam and Booth CSI has Catherine and Warrick.. they Both broke up. Allthough I think that the relationship between hodgie and angie is also very close to cath and warrick. CSI has the obvious attraction between Sara and Grissom, and it took a while of denial and other things before they could accept that. (And I kinda see Cathrine as matchmaker) Bones has Booth and Brennan, they are still in denial allthough they are having a hard time to keep that façade, they also have angie as a matchmaker. Brennan and Sara also have a few similarities, They were both in foster care, and they both had a rough childhood. In both shows it takes a while for you to know what happened, allthough I am not sure we allready know all of it. Both of them are distant and loners, but they are changing because of their team, Sara is more open and so is Bones. They Both have someone they can completely trust, and who is allways there for thjem. Sara has Grissom, and Temperance has Booth. So if you follow the timeline it's obvious they will get together too.. Well I don't know if you all agree with me, and if this is what you meant Jen.. But this is my compare and contrast between my favorite shows. Anyways if my grammar sucks.. I am soooo sorry :S ~Chantal |

First of all, awesome post, Chantal!! Thanks for contributing.
Very good point, I didn't think of it that way. That might be one reason that the mood on CSI seems to be darker.
Yes, I've thought about this, too. Hodgins and Grissom have that in common, they both get really excited about bug stuff. I don't think they have similar personalities, though. I can't really think of who I would pair up with Hodgins as far as a "like" personality on CSI.
That is very true! I love how you paralleled the two shows like that. I think you're right. We just didn't get to "see" Catherine's matchmaking tendencies, we just assume them, since it fits her personality and the way she's interacted with Gil and Sara both all these years. I think that leads me to say one thing I've noticed about CSI and Bones regarding the characters' personal lives. On CSI, most of their personal struggles are not shown outright. We have to get tiny bits and pieces as the show goes along. But on Bones, most of the personal life stuff is out in the open, for us viewers, anyway. The other characters don't always know everything that's going on with the others.
YES! Completely agree with this one. I love using it in the videos I"ve made that involve CSI and Bones, too. For those of you who haven't watched CSI much, Sara, one of the crime scene investigators, went into the foster system, I believe when she was about 13, when her mother stabbed her father to death. I believe he was abusing her, and she had finally had enough. I don't think we've ever gotten the whole story, though. We do know that for awhile after the incident, her mother was in a psych. hospital. But from there, we don't know if she went to prison or not. And I don't know if we ever found out how Sara's older brother handled the situation. It's clear that Sara doesn't have contact with her family. Much the same way Brennan has been until recently. And all we know about Brennan is that, after her parents went missing when she was 15, her brother, Russ, took off and she was placed into the foster care system. She says she was in until her "grandfather" got her out. But we don't know anything about him or the circumstances of that. It'll be interesting to see, as these two women's stories unfold, how much else they might have in common. I'm sure I'll post more as other people post in here. ~Jen |

Hi Jen..
I am glad you agreed with me.. ANd trhank you for clearing the CSI thinfg up, I never saw that one episode.. I think Bones and CSI should do a crossover themselves, I would love to ee them interact, and it would sure help Brennan and Sara to tell more about their story.. maybe they even know eachother, possible right? I hope others post in here too.. You guys have your own opinion about this right? anyways I would love to hear them |

oh oh I do... I think he and greg do have some similarities.. Sara and Brennan (little bit of Grissom into the mix and you'll have your own Tempe) Others who are a lot alike: Angela and Cathrine, though Cathrine and Sara are very hostile at first I am sure that once they find a way to deal with their differences like Temperance and Angela (because they are a lot different to in personalities) I am sure they can have a great and powerful friendship.. Booth is a little like a mix between Warrick and Nick, oh and a little Brass for the cop-effect, but hey, they did take the good looks from each one of them to create a Booth.. they all have the strong urge to do what's right for humanity Sara and Bones also have a lot of similarities in why I think they chose the job. They really want to give others closure, they want to give people the help and the sincerity they never had. They feel that everyone deserves justice and they want to kill the stereotypes, they both feel strongly connected whenever a fosterkid is involved, because they know how hard that life is, and maybe they were blamed for things they didn't do aswell.. A lot of things are left out, so you really start thinking about the characters.. I just don't seem to compare cam to anyone.. well a little to Cathrine because they both have moments of bitchyness.. but also a little to Grissom, because they care about the team, and they both stand out of the crowd a little, neither one of them is really pulled into theh team, they'll have to work harder and get more socialized.. (not talking about pop culture because then both brennan, zach and grissom would fall out) Oh and Zach is a lot like grissom, making the wrong comments a the wrong time and lacking a lot of people skills, that is why I think Zach is somehow attracted to Bones, I think that might also give a little trouble in the future.. because BB just has to be right? well.. that's my comparisation for today.. hope you have got something to add? pleaaaseee? |
