"Patrick, I can make it just fine on my own."

Lillian slipped from the back seat of the car and into the wheelchair as her driver stood obediently back, a hand outstretched in case assistance was, indeed, required. The redhead, however, would have sooner eaten an earthworm than accept help. She soon had herself settled into the smooth leather chair, adjusting her long skirt to better conceal the lack that dwelt beyond her knees before quickly disengaging the brakes and then grasping each wheel to begin propelling herself up the gentle slope to the Academy.

Patrick trod alongside the girl, her valise in hand, a wary eye on her progress. Lillian, however, gave no indication of any discomfort as she stalwartly heaved on the wheels to either side. She was still getting used to her prosthetic left hand, but she had found plenty of opportunity to practice this particular maneuver.

They were well over halfway up the incline before the servant cleared his throat and spoke again.

"Ah, Miss Lillian..."

"Yes...Patrick?" replied the girl between breaths, not looking up at the tall, impeccably dressed man.

"Are you quite certain that you want to start now? If you would just wait a few weeks, until you've gotten used to the new prosthetics, I'm sure you'd find the going much easier. You've only just been freed from physiotherapy, and besides, you're entering mid-term!"

Lillian drew herself to a stop, using the pretext of speech to catch her breath. "Patrick, you saw me at home. Did I seem particularly enthused to be bed-bound? Never mind getting nannied and fussed over by Mother, I couldn't stand the guilty looks I would get from Father. Bloody awful. No. No, Patrick, I think I will be much, much happier here. Even if it may turn out to be uncomfortable for the next month or so, at least I'll be doing something. Besides, I wouldn't have been studying by correspondence all that time without having this very aim in mind. I doubt my professors will have any reason to complain."

The driver sighed, muttering, "Not about your work, at least."

The redhead glanced up, "What was that?" she said, pursing her lips.

Patrick grinned apologetically, "Nothing, Miss."

"I should certainly hope not." she replied with a mock glare, quickly taking the wheels of her chair in hand and continuing up the hill. "I...should think...that anyone...would find me...a delight."

"Yes, Miss." said the driver with resignation.

They eventually reached the top of the rise, facing the facade of the Academy's grand entrance. Lillian allowed her driver to gently open one of the great glass doors so that she could pass. The reception hall appeared to be well frequented, with students passing through from various other adjoining halls. She garnered quite a number of glances, and doubted that it was due to her lovely white outfit with a black highlights, a style that had been making its rounds in London. She self-consciously readjusted her skirt in response to the scrutiny, her sky-blue eyes dodging the looks, as she felt heat rising to her freckled cheeks.

"Damn it..." she muttered under her breath. To Patrick, she said, "do you see the administration?"

"Oh I'm sure she's around somewhere," Hayzie Roberts grinned, skipping down the stairs to the newcomer, a folder clasped in her hand. Cheerily, the blonde made her way over to Lillian, only stopping when she reached the wheelchair. This, she was braced for. Then again, it would actually be considerably easier for her at the school. After all, a little magic weaved here and a small spell there, and hey presto, levitation was complete. Oh the idea of helping Lillian if she wanted it filled her with glee. Or maybe that was the after effects of word that was making it round the rumour mill at the moment. If Kalyn really thought no one was in the Astronomy Tower after hours, her friend was sorely mistaken. Though Hayz was waiting to unleash this fact at the opportune moment, and she still owed Rachel a favour for mentioning something she had heard to William in the dining room one day. Apparently she'd heard it from someone who had heard it from someone. Rumour mill. But she had been intending to speak to Lyn about it since. "I'm sure she'll be... with company, but won't be held up for too long. In the meantime, you have me! It's Lillian, right?" Hayzie smiled brightly, feeling like she ought to do a small spin... but that would probably take things too far.

Thinking on it, Lillian actually had no idea who 'me' was. "I'm Hayzie Roberts, Student Council Member at Four Points! Welcome to the establishment. I'll be your point of contact while you get settled and everything!" Gee, she needed to tone down the chirpyness. Then again, Kathryn was the total opposite. They balanced each other out, really.

Opening the file, Hayz pulled out the checklist. Not that she didn't know it off by heart, but if she was going to do this, then she'd have to do it properly. Not that it wasn't a pleasure. It got her out of first period Charms. Not that she didn't like Charms. They were ever so useful. Just... this was way more fun.

"So, did you want to see your room? Get settled, and I'll try and find Ms. Sarello for you? I have your room allocation and key card right here, and class schedule ready for you to fill in and some boring induction type stuff. Ms. Sarello will go through some of it with you, and I'll go through the others." Gods, she wasn't. Stopping. Talking. At all.

Tilting her head to one side, Hayz regarded the girl in the wheelchair. "You know, we can get that to float.." she mumbled, head ticking away. It was used so little, they could probably hear it on the other side of the grounds. But anyway...

"But we're not going to," Hikalyn said, to Hayz more than the new student, at whom she smiled apologetically. "I didn't mean to overhear, but I thought I caught my name just now." Their new arrival was probably a little taken aback by the greeting. Being greeted at the door by no less than two people wasn't the typical university experience, especially not when one of them was ... as enthusiastic as Hayz. Just coincidental timing on Hikalyn's part, really, as she'd just been about to head out for lunch. Hopefully the new student wouldn't find this greeting too overbearing.

She nodded to the man hovering not far to one side--a parent, maybe, or from his impeccable dress more likely an assistant of some sort--and offered her hand to the red-haired woman. "Hikalyn Sarello. I'm one of the heads here."

Lillian hadn't caught the approach of the blonde, and turned to the voice that strode to her from the staircase, fixing a polite smile to her face. "Oh, thank you, I-"

Lillian quickly found the girl - Hayzie's stream of thought to be incapable of impediment. She nevertheless attempted to get a polite word in edgewise, while maintaining as good a humour as possible. First impressions were important, after all, as her mother could never refrain from chiming at every opportunity, to her daughter's immense annoyance. "Yes, my name -" "A pleasure to -" "Oh, how ki-" "My driver will - " "Perhaps, if I - "

Hayzie's last statement, however, caused her smile to twitch, and her eyebrows to raise ever so slightly. "Pardon me?"

Had she heard her right? Floating? Was that a crack about her hand? Did she think she was a bloody pirate? The way the blonde was now carefully considering her wheelchair brought the blood rushing a little faster to her cheeks, though it no longer had anything to do with embarrassment. Fortunately enough, a dark-haired woman arrived on-scene. Lilian sighed inwardly with some relief as the woman took the reins of the conversation. She forced her temper to cool.

Patrick returned the woman's nod as Lillian raised her good right hand to shake. "A pleasure, Headmistress. My name is Lillian Marsh." After they had released one-another, she gestured to the tall man next to her. "This is my driver, Patrick. He can bring my things up to my room. I have my entrance papers here, if there's a need." She indicated the back of her wheelchair, where a purse and a lightweight satchel, built into the backrest and obviously containing a few documents, hung.

"Nice to meet you, Lillian, Patrick." She withdrew her hand. "My office is more or less on the way if you wanted to take care of the papers now. It won't take long." There wouldn't usually be any such thing to worry about, but a student switching from correspondence to regular courses so far into the term had caused a few administrative wrinkles.

She smiled a bit wryly. "But I believe Hayz here already has a key-card ready to go for you, so we can head straight to your room if you'd prefer." Technically, it wasn't really necessary for her to hang around for the whole orientation, but then they didn't usually inflict Hayz on individual students. Hayz always seemed to get on just fine with slightly larger groups, but her enthusiasm was something that was perhaps best shared with friends. Having seen the relief on Lillian's face, Hikalyn thought it couldn't hurt to tag along and moderate just a little bit. Especially if Hayz was already mumbling about making things float.

The chair-bound girl nodded to Hikalyn and, doing her best to hide her brief flare of internal vexation, smiled up at Hayzie once again. "Yes, I believe I gathered as much. Miss...Roberts, was it? I hope you don't mind waiting a few moments. I'd prefer to get any paperwork handled immediately."

She turned back to Hikalyn, "That is, as long as I'm not taking you from anything, Headmistress? My new guide mentioned shortly before you arrived that you might be engaged in some kind of meeting...company of some sort I think? I wouldn't want to impose."

She was momentarily puzzled. She didn't have any appointments scheduled for today, and Hayz wouldn't have any way to know it even if she was booked. Then, seeing the smirk Hayzie's face, she realized what Hayz must be on about and barely refrained from shooting her a dirty look. Sometime soon she and Hayz were going to have to sit down for a nice chat about the merits of discretion. And about the merits of not giving coffee to young children.

"Not at all, actually," she said, smiling briefly. "I'm not very popular at this time of day anyhow." Which was true enough. Most people were either at lunch or in class. "Oh, Hayzie, have you already activated that key-card? I might as well take care with that along with the other loose ends."

"No! Of course we're not!" Hayzie's voice went a little more high pitched at the arrival of Hikalyn, mentioning that they would not make any wheelchairs float. Actually, it was kind of disappointing they wouldn't be. It would make things so much easier for Lillian. But in the meantime, no, of course they weren't going to do that.

Introductions were made by Lillian who also motioned to the man standing beside her. A driver? How very fancy! And all the paperwork was sorted. Very organised. Unlike... "The key card! It's here! It just needs activating! Why don't I go and do that, while the admission paperwork is sorted, and I can meet you back at Ms Sarello's office? I could also show Patrick the dorms and have your things taken up if you'd like? Get settled in a bit quicker?" Oh, Hayzie was certainly in a hurry to get away. Hiding the smirk that came to her face at the fact Kalyn was meant to have company wasn't coming easily, either. Getting away seemed like the best option.

IC: Lillian watched as the headmistress' expression became puzzled in response to her question, and as she glanced over at Hayzie, who seemed to have a peculiar grin prepared for her. The new student could make little of the exchange, however, and contented herself with listening to their brief discourse and smiling at the blonde, nodding to her suggestions.

"That sounds ideal, thank you. Patrick? Join Ms. Roberts, if you please, I'm sure I can make my own way with Ms. Sarello."

The driver hefted the luggage and nodded. "As you wish, Miss." He waited expectantly for Hayzie to show him the way.

The redhead turned back to Hikalyn, grasping the wheels of her chair once again and nodding to the administrator. "Thank you for taking the time to do this, Headmistress. I am ready when you are."

OC: By the way, Hayz, feel free to control Patrick if you like. He's just your basic butler type. Or I can respond for him if you want to ask questions of him about Lillian as you bring him to the room.

Hikalyn was more than willing to let Hayzie take off to do just that. She could see from the way Hayz's mouth was twitching that her friend was trying her hardest to contain herself. It almost would have been funny, if Hikalyn couldn't imagine exactly what Hayz might be itching to talk to her about.

"You're quite welcome," she said, giving herself a mental shake and smiling at the new student. "It's this way." She started towards the corridor that would take them to her office. After a few moments--just enough time, she figured, to take them out of earshot of Hayzie--she added, "I hope you didn't feel too overwhelmed by your reception here today. We don't usually micromanage like this, but we don't usually get new students in the middle of the term, either."

Lillian smiled and gave a bit of a nod to Hayzie as a goodbye before heaving on the wheels. The wheelchair was soon rolling along next to Hikalyn as they headed towards her office. Lillian's eyes got drawn away from the headmistress and settled on some of the unique architecture and art that made up the main hall of the building. It was an odd old place. Such a mixture of the ancient and the modern. There had obviously been many recent renovations. The girl was quick, however, to turn her gaze back to the administrator when she spoke again, and smiled apologetically.

"I'll admit, it was a little surprising to be met at the doors so quickly. Ms. Roberts is very - efficient in her instructions," she shook her head a little, "but I realize my arrival is unusual for many reasons. There was bound to be a bit of a stir."

Hikalyn allowed her smile to turn just a little bit wry. "Yes, she certainly is." Except for all of the times when she wasn't, of course, but that wasn't the sort of thing one said to an incoming student. Or in any professional capacity at all, really.

She slipped her own key card out of her pocket as they approached her office and flicked it in front of the lock. She stepped inside as the door swung inward, pushing one of the chairs in front of her desk to the side so there would be more room for Lillian's wheelchair.

"This won't take long," she said, moving behind her desk to open a drawer and rummage through a stack of folders. "It's basically just an acknowledgement that you're switching from correspondence to classes on campus." Finding what she was looking for, she slid a single piece of paper across the desk to Lillian and smiled at the young woman apologetically. "We'd normally have something like this sorted in advance of your arrival, but this late in the semester it did become a bit of a scramble."

Lillian drew a pen from the desk with a momentary look of inquiry for permission to the headmistress before turning her attention to the form. She skimmed it quickly, and found where her signature was required. Not for the first time, she couldn't help thinking to herself how fortunate she had been that her right hand had been spared the trials of her left. She jotted down her name in the "chicken scratch scribble" that her mother had complained about so many times before.

"I apologize again at the inconvenience, Ms. Sarello. I was just so eager to get started." And free.

She pushed the leaf of paper back across the desk. "While we're on the subject, actually, may I ask when I will be able to join my classmates? Obviously it's too late today...but...tomorrow?"

Lillian was hopeful that she'd be able to jump in as soon as possible. She particularly couldn't wait to attend her first lectures in engineering design.
