It was the end of yet another shift for Hayzie Roberts, one of the Council Members at the school. Really, she should have quit the job long ago, stopped walking back to the school in early hours of the morning and got an on-campus job instead. Surely there must be something going. Or maybe a part time job in Kalloni that meant more normal hours.

Two a.m. really wasn't doing any good at all.

Yawning as she zipped up her light jacket, green eyes tried to blink tiredness away. It wouldn't be long before Hayz could curl up in bed until morning. At that moment, the blonde could barely remember what was on her timetable the next day - only that it wasn't an overly early start. Maybe.

Digging her hands into her pockets, Hayzie pulled out her MP3 player, scrolling through the list of songs until she found one she liked. "Trouble" was the song of choice. Humming the tune, the student looked up. No, it wouldn't be long until she could doze off. Sleep would most definitely be welcome that morning.

OOC:
Yeah, yeah, uh oh, we're in trouble
Something's come along and it's burst our bubble
Yeah, yeah, uh oh, we're in trouble
We're deep in doo doo and we don't have a shoveeeeeel!
(It seemed apt wink.gif )

The soft sea breeze tugged at the Vampiress’ long red hair as she made her way quickly down the dark streets of the Village, her boots clicking on the stone pavement. She was here because of her ‘try then buy’ approach to shopping. Her acquisitions after her night of merriment with Lei had proved worthy of some compensation, except perhaps the teen clothes store they had burnt down, that had been warranted. In her short time, Sombre had amassed an impressive store of personal wealth, though through a strange, almost Robin Hood morality. She had stolen the blood and money from those who had stolen the lives of others, but then there was no one left to compensate so the Vampiress pocketed it. Her meal for the evening was paying her thanks, or at least, that was her plan until that smell hit her.

“Hayzie,” Sombre whispered, no louder than the wind. God, was she ready for this? Yes. This was why she was back here. She could handle this. After all, why was Cara afraid of Hayzie? She had to put away the guilt for a minute and just talk to Hayzie, to find out if she was ok.

Turning quickly, her emerald coat swirling away from her dark jeans, Sombre made her way quickly towards the scent. As she rounded a corner, she saw it, that flash of bright blonde hair and couldn’t help the small smile that came to her face. Almost skipping, she approached her old almost-friend/not-quite-enemy quickly. When Sombre reached her, she reached up quickly and pulled free one of the girl’s headphones, “Two a.m.? Out past curfew, Miss Roberts, I do believe that warrants a detention.”

Pulling back far enough so that she was less of a threat, Sombre smiled shyly, “ It’s good to see you, Hayzie.”

Nothing had even been noticed until the earphone was pulled out of her ear. If she'd been walking any faster, it may not have come out so easily. Upon turning to see who the intruder of her walk home was. The sight was wholly unexpected. Loosening the fists that had formed following her one on one with Tania, the blonde took a step backwards. "Cara?"

The vampiress hadn't been seen in months, perhaps longer, after their encounter with a drug that went wrong. Amnesia hadn't really been fun, but it was all over in no time at all. Detention slips written out every five minutes had been hell. Especially when they were for walking around with a loose tie.

Now, her old frenemy was standing right in front of her, casually saying it was good to see her. Eyebrows quickly rose. Taking another step back, Hayzie shook her head, laughing in disbelief. "This can't be happening. Seriously. You... you can't be here."

Though, it was simple. Easy enough to understand. Cara, or Sombre was there. Right in front of her. Green eyes could make her out. Well, the lights in the village helped, but the lights in the village really weren't the point.

Tugging theo the other earphone out, the blonde sighed, a resigned note to the breath. "How are you, Cara?"

“You go to all the trouble of picking out a new name, perfecting a new signature and then it just seems like to much trouble for anyone to remember it!” Sombre quipped with a wickedly toothy smile. It seemed that although she preferred her new name, she no longer felt the need to murder anyone who used the other.

“I’m, well, quite dead but I find it suits me perfectly, thank you. Though I do have to say, your greeting leaves something to be desired. You’d think someone like you could come up with something more interesting than ‘This can’t be happening’, ‘Oh, you can’t be real!’ Shock. Vampires. <i>In Kalloni?<i>” Sombre’s eyes went mockingly wide, before a self assured grin took over her face, “I do admit though, sometimes the package is overwhelming…” As if to emphasise her point, Sombre raised an elegant pale hand and did a slow catwalk swirl, her long coat swishing appropriately in the cool night air.

Yes, theatrics. That was safe. It was light and safe, but it was not what she should be saying.

Stopping herself with a soft laugh, Sombre’s mirth sounded a tad forced as her proud shoulders fell ever so slightly. “No, really, I am fine for the most part. I thought I should… come back…” Her bright green eyes, large in the darkness, looked so similar now to how they had those few years ago. The only difference? They were not narrowed as the prefect watching her adversary, her friend; They were wide, unsure. “After...”

The Vampiress shook her head, and muttered something in French under her breath before again meeting the other woman’s eyes, searchingly, “How are you?”

Hayz rolled her eyes at Cara's response. The theatrics should have been expected, but really werent at the same time. It was late, she was tired, and just wanted to go home. "Well, apologies the welcome waggon isn't here for you... it's past their bedtime," she replied, crossing her arms in front of her.

The blonde couldn't make out the French words that came from the Vampire's lips, and really couldn't care less. Indifference. That was maybe the best way to play this game. That's all it was - a game. Cat and mouse.

"I'm well, thank you," Hayzie answered, her tone still indifferent, nowhere near the disbelief that was there before. Disbelief and panic. Since Michaela, she'd had the good fortune to not run in to any Vampires. Good fortune always ran out, though. It would have been much easier to bump into Michaela in some ways. You generally knew where she was coming from. Cara... with Cara, you had no idea.

"Have you been back here long?"

The surreal nature of their meeting was not lost on the Vampiress. It seemed like she wasn’t here, like she was back at another school… Another school which saw oh so many clandestine fights in night hallways… But no, not now. This was a different place, a different time. They had grown up, they had grown apart. For goodness sake, she had died.

“Yes, I suppose it is late…” Sombre mused, distractedly, her mind still a little far away from the conversation. Bringing herself back to the moment with a quick shake of her head, Sombre was surprised at how much the expression of tired indifference the blonde wore upset her. Hate, anger, she was used to those, maybe even a strange kind of affection, but indifference? Well, Sombre had pushed so far to convince Hayzie that her friend was gone, that Sombre was nothing to her, it seemed like she had succeeded. So damage, Sombre wasn’t even a threat. All Hayzie saw her as now was an annoyance.

“Glad that you’re well… But no, I’ve not been back very long…” Sombre chose her words with care, wondering why she had the feeling that she really just wanted to pull the hair of one Miss Roberts, wanted to get a reaction. She laughed, almost bitterly, “Not back so long that I need to run, but not so short a time that I haven’t seen enough people to remind me why I left... Ah, the agony of having a past.”

Clearing her throat, trying to find a way to explain why she had returned, what Sebastian had said. Sombre, taking an unnessary breath, started again, “There are things here that I have to fix.”

"Well, then I won't get in your way," Hayzie said quietly, stepping to one side and gesturing Sombre through. She had to get back anyway for an early class the next morning, and holding a conversation with her old friend, Hayz knew, would only land her not getting back in time to at least get a few decent hours sleep in. Definitely not.

Green eyes looked back to the red-haired Vampiress, wondering exactly what had happened the night she had been turned. Oh yes, Hayz had probably been a cause of it. If she hadn't wound the girl up so much, to the point where she ran into the forest and met Michaela, maybe things wouldn't be like this now. Maybe things would be fine between them..

As it was, what was done was done, and the rest was left to whatever would be. Though there would always be that nagging question. What if things had been different? The biggest thing she wanted to know was why she'd not said it was Michaela that had sired her? Why they had allowed something like that to tear whatever friendship was there apart. Heck, Hayz had been friends with some creatures of the night before. It couldn't have been that hard.

Then again, they had tried to make amends in Italy... and that had all ended in tears - both clear and red.

“Hayzie,” Sombre said simply, but made no move to pass the girl. God, that indifference. More than anything, Sombre hated that. Hated that in some strange way, the two had been friends for so long, and now she was nothing. The red-haired Vampiress hated that she knew exactly whose fault it was, it was her own. She had tried to assure the woman that Cara was dead and gone and apparently she had. However, it had occurred to Sombre that the further she tried to run from Cara, the more she had just proved that she still was that girl.

It seemed mad, but she needed Hayz to see that she was still there. Still important. That, in some part, she was still that girl and she should still matter to her. “I’ve heard things have not been going so splendid since the last time I saw you.” The Vampiress paused, casting her bright green eyes down, “I hope… I hope that was not related to the way I left.” Sighing, the woman shrugged a pale, elegant shoulder.

Shaking her auburn head, Sombre gave up, “I am sorry, I shouldn’t be keeping you. It is late and you are obvious both tired and loathe to be hear talking to me.” Staring down her dark denim encased legs to her leather heeled boots, Sombre waited for the other woman to pass her. Reading herself for another night of quite solitude, she once again considered returning to her French home. Kalloni was not the place for a Vampire, especially not for one currently suffering a melancholy desire for some sort of friendship.
