The GINN was looming towards the bridge of the Ever-ready, it’s beam scythe was drawn, glowing a fearful purple. The ship’s CIWS was destroyed- there was nothing Ramius or her crew could do.

The GINN drew back the scythe and lunged forth swinging at the bridge of her ship. Ramius involuntarily took a step back, trying to avoid her fate, her inevitable death- but not only her’s, but that of her crew; and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
The scythe cleaved through the bridge in slow motion; Ramius tried to turn from the merciless beam of destruction, but as she did, she came face-to-face with her sister.

“Brianna, you shouldn’t be here!”

The beam cut through Ramius like nothing. Brianna’s face twisted in horror and pain as she too was cut down. The bridge was destroyed; power surged through the Ever-ready, but it was too much for it to handle. The ever-ready blew up in a mgnificent pyro-technic display.

Ramius shot straight up in her bed, her sheets damp from sweat. Where am I? The ship! We’re under attack! She thought in a panic.
Her senses began work again as she calmed down. It was just a dream Julianna. Brianna and the crew are safe, the ship is fine. It was just a dream.
She clenched her trembling hands; breathing slowly.
Ramius got the shower running and stepped in.

How many times during the Gibraltar attack had she and her crew been lucky? When that GINN came at them after destroying the Posiedon and Sirrius, and creating that hole in their own CIWS defences, she had thought that that was the end for them; if it hadn’t been for that Windam, it would have been.

Water stopped falling from the shower head; Ramius changed into her uniform.

No. It was not all luck; her crew was strong, they had been through a lot together. When it came down to it, she knew she could count on them to give their all and more. Everyone could rely on one another; everyone knew how everybody else worked. She was proud of them; they were the best crew she had ever had the privelidge of serving with.

Ramius tugged on her uniform shirt straightening out the creases that had bunched up.
She stepped out of her quarters and proceeded to the bridge, returning salutes as she passed the occasional crewman or officer. The memory and feeling of the nightmare was just about faded.

Nicol entered the medbay refreshed from his break in shifts, ready to begin another.

"How are our patients today?" He enquired of a nurse checking a patients chart.

"No change since you left."

Nicol went through the charts then checked the patients over. The nurse was correct, there was little to no change; physically they were healing, but most were yet to regain consciesness.

He passed the recovery bed of the mobile suit pilot. His chart was mostly unchanged, again the young man was healing physically, but was yet to come around. There was a slight movement that caught his eye.
Looking closer, Nicol could see the pilots eyes moving beneath their lids.
So you are conscieous...just sleeping. We'll let you sleep, you're going to need the rest.
Nicol made a note down of the chart then moved on.

"Identify yourself"

Ramius stood straight so as to speak as clearly as possible.

"This is Captain Julianna Ramius, of the Earth Forces Fraser-class escort destroyer, Ever-ready. Returning with Tarawa-class carrier from resupply mission. We are sending our clearance codes now."

She nodded to her comm officer who began sending their codes on encrypted channels to the base.
There was a tense moment when she thought the codes would not be confirmed and the EA ships which had surrounded them would open fire and turn her crew and ship into a smouldering mess, slowly sinking into the depths.

"Codes recieved and confirmed. Welcome back to JOSH-A, Mjolnir and Ever-ready. Proceed to the co-ordinates being sent to you now, and await further orders. JOSH-A out."

Ramius allowed a small smile to curl at the edge of her lips as the surrounding ship made way for the two returning ships.
Finally, they had made it back to JOSH-A, and in one piece too. Ramius looked around to see the relieved faces on the younger crewmen.

"Co-ordinates recieved, Captain."

"Proceed."

"Eye, Captain."

The sun reflected brightly off the blue water of the JOSH-A port. The two ships continued until they were one kilometer off the coast of Alaska then held position. In the full light of day; anyone could see that they had gone through a viscious battle; battle damaged metal met with newly welded metal. Cannons were missing.

Ramius relaxed. Everything would be routine now; repairs, resupply, debriefing, new orders- if the crew were lucky then shore-leave.
--------------------------------

Were it not for the presence of two individuals, the Officers Mess would have been deserted. The two individuals were Ramius, and her 2IC Commander Welsch.
Both stood to attention and saluted smartly as the image of Rear Admiral (2nd class) McColloch snapped onto the wall-monitor. His white uniform contrasted greatly with his dark skin.

"At ease. I would first like to welcome you back, and to congratulate you on a job well done at Gibraltar."

Both Ramius and Welsch lowered their hands, and relaxed, not quite at ease but not quite at attention either; When it came to meetings with brass, one could not be informal.
Ramius was the first to speak.

"Thank you Sir. Although the destruction of Gibraltar was the result of the enemy activating the base's self destruct; not really any act of ours."

"In any case, the base's destruction marks a much needed victory and morale boost through our forces. It is unfortunate that the Poseidon was destroyed, but her death was not in vain."

(The Poseidon was the other escort ship assigned to the Mjolnir's protection; it had been destroyed in the attack at Gibraltar.)

"However, to the reason I have called you both here. Captain Ramius, you are ordered to report to the Ptolemaeus Lunar Base; there is a speedboat en-route to your ship now to pick you up, our Air Force guys here have a transport stopping over in Panama and have agreed to take you onboard with them, your shuttle leaves from Panama in two days. You will recieve your written orders and papers when the boat picks you up- which should be any moment now, so be ready."

A transfer? What could be at Ptolemaeus?

"Yessir. Sir, if I may ask; who shall command the Ever-ready?"

Ramius had been in command of the ship for the past year and had (as many Captains do) grown quite attached to it. The last thing she wanted to see was a lousy Captain get the ship and crew killed the next time they leave port.

"Why, Welsch shall be in command of course- which brings me to the next order of business. Welsch, you have been promoted to the rank of Captain, with all the rights, privilidges and responsibilities that come with it. You shall Captain the Ever-ready.
I would like to continue to talk, however there are some pressing matter I must attend to. You have you orders."

With that; the Rear Admiral saluted and the monitor went blank. Ramius and Welsch lowered their hands from the salute they had returned.

Ramius was relieved. She looked over to Captain Welsch; she knew now the ship was in good hands, Welsch was a fine officer, was in good standing with the crew and knew the ship like the back of his hand.

“Captain Welsch.”

”It’s got a nice ring to it, doesn’t it.”

Ramius had so smile at that. She went to continue, but was interrupted by the ship’s internal comm.

Bridge to Captain Ramius. There is a speedboat approaching asking permission to dock; they say they’re here to pick you up.

Ramius pressed a button beneath the wall-monitor, opening a comm channel to the bridge. She explained to the enquiring voice that the boat was expected and to let them dock.

“I’d better get ready.” She said aloud; mostly to herself but also in part to Welsch.

Ramius stepped out onto the main deck; all she had was the uniform she wore and a small bag containing spare clothing and uniform. She made her way over to the ladder which went down the side of the ship to the waiting speedboat.
Welsch was waiting at the ladder, along with a handful of crewmen and officers.

She saluted the new Captain of the Ever-ready.
“Permission to disembark.” Those words brought finality to what was happening; she was leaving.

Welsch returned the salute. ”Permission granted.”
He lowered his hand; Ramius accepted the man’s strong handshake. ”Good luck.”
“Take care.” She simply replied.

The handful of crew stood at attention saluting. Words didn’t suit what was happening, even if there were, Ramius could not find them. Instead she just nodded and saluted back.
That done she slung the bag over her shoulder and started down the ladder.

Ramius watched as the ship she had commanded for the last year slowly grew smaller and smaller as the speedboat headed back towards the shore.
Her thought finally began to shift from the ship and it’s crew; towards the journey to the Lunar Base, and to what could possibly await her there.

[To: Ptolemaeus Lunar Base]

(OOC: Woah, that was a little more wordy than I intended, oh well

Most of the medical staff sent to the Mjolnir to assist with wounded after the battle at Gibraltar had begun to return to the Ever-ready. For the past couple of hours, they medical staff had been working away in their space of the ship sorting out the medical supplies that had come with the resupply and outfit for the ship.
Engineers set about the medbay, replacing damaged monitors, lights and (under the hawkish supervision of the medical staff) the few medical devices and equipment that either needed repairing or complete replacement.

The newly appointed Captain of the Ever-ready, Captain Welsch, strode into the medbay.
"How goes the resupply doctor?"

Nicol turned; word had slowly filtered through the ship about the change in hands of the ship's commanding officer. He quickly threw a half-hearted salute- too busy to strictly ahere to proper military protocols.

"Most of what we need has been provided sir, however there are a number of essential items that we're still waiting on." He kicked a box across the floor and it slid out into the corridor beyond the medbay doors.

"And if those guys in the resupply office at the base were doing their job properly, we would have been done long ago; that's the third box of engineering equipment we've had in here today- tell me, what are we supposed to do with circuit boards?, and do you think we can find the stuff they're supposed to send us?- of course not." Nicol was annoyed. Taking a breath, he calmed down and resumed his rational tone.
"Other than that we're pretty fine; the rest of the staff should be back within the next few hours."

Welsch nodded then looked around again. "I'll see what I can do to speed things up for you, but I can't make any promises."

"There any particular reason as to why we're in such a hurry Captain?"

"Just want to be ready as soon as possible"
Welsch left the medbay.

Nicol knew the real reason; he had seen it all before. A newly promoted officer taking charge of their first official command wanting everything to run as smoothly as possible. He had seen it with many Captains he had worked with, including the most recent Captain Ramius.
In a few days, Welsch would grow into the role of Captain.

Nicol rolled his eyes as there was the crash of more engineering equipment being spilled across the medbay floors.

[OOC: Might as well wake him up.]

It is some time before he realized what happened after he crashed the Windam onto the turret of the ship. He remembered he was still fighting when Gilbratar 'exploded', and went down to the heat wave generated by the explosion.

It was total darkness after he went down. Little did he realized he was shuffled around the ship and was being treated for numerous injuries he suffered from the crash. Lying unconcious wasn't the first thing a soldier should do, but what choice does one have when they themselves are suffering from that effect?

He slowly opened his eyes, as the first thing he see is nothing, but a ceiling inside a cabin of a ship. He was blinded by the lights in the cabin, but that is only temporary.

He tried to straighten himself up, but felt pain in his body.

Gah...what happened to me...

One of the nurses taking care of things inside rushed to him.

[OOC: Heck, might go for character no.8.]

Nicol finished putting the last of the emergency medical supplies in the cupboard as one of the nurses told him that the pilot of the Mobile Suit that had crashed into the ship had woken.
The pilot had been moved out of the emergency section and into the smaller recovery wing of the medical bay, when he had been noted as having regained consciousness but was then sleeping.

That kid can really sleep.

Nicol made his way over to the recovery wing- wing might not be the correct word to describe it really, it was more of a room no bigger than a crew quarters.
Inside there was a nurse, busy fussing over the injured pilot.

"So sleeping beauty finally decides to join us; enjoy your little rest?"

He then turns to see an older man entering the room, as the nurses were busy with stuff around the room. From what he can make out, the plpace he was in might be a ship or something. One of the ships that participated in the battle in Gilbratar.

He then tried not to look confused, but something tells him that he have been 'sleeping' longer than he thought.

He heard the doctor asking a question to him.

"No idea, So like it might not be a good idea to know how long I must have slept, right?"

I wouldn't wouldn't concern myself about it too much if I were you; I'm sure if you're really interested you'll find out for yourself."

The nurses slowly filtered out of the room, brushing past Nicol as they went, but even then the room was still rather cramped. He leaned up against on of the bunk beds opposite the pilot.

"I'm Doctor Waterfield." Nicol's tone then turned more serious.
"Can you tell me your name? and what the last thing you remember is, before you woke up here?"

The perfectionist began shining through him again; although there had been no sign of permenant brain damage to Cadarn, he was able to form complete sentences. But Nicol wanted to be absolutely certain.

Usually when something like this happens, he would be screaming at the doctor to do their job quickl so he can quickly get out there and finish off several ZAFT troops before crap happens.

But today, he do not feel like doing so.

Damn, the rest.

Looking around the rather cramped room, he was all alone with the doctor, who begin asking him a series of questions about himself. He leaned himself on the pillow, looking rather amused at the doctor.

"Heh, might have been a case of 'getting knocked out for too long', guess I'll leave it at that," he then replied. He then hears the doctor asking about himmself.

"Cadarn, Springfield," he then replied in a rather low tone. "Wait...let me see...might be some random dreams and stuff like those after that stupid Gundam attacked us."

Nicol was satisfied. The young man could remember his name, and the events close to his crashing.

He had worked on many MS pilot patients before; most pilots where all the same, they would either have a lousy temper, or their primary concern was whether their precious mobile suits were in one piece.
It was refreshing to find a pilot who broke from the usual trend.

"Well mister Springfield, you are very lucky. As I'm sure you're no doubt feeling, you had quite the number of injuries; good news is that you're fine, and that you can leave shortly. Although I recommend taking it easy for a while."

He smiled, straightening up again. Really, there would be no need to keep Cadarn in the medbay for much longer. Aside from the routine day of observation that is usually required, he was healed for the most part.

"Heck, might as well I do not know of the injuries I suffered," he said, while looking at the things around his room and the bandages he had.

Must be some mega fall I have back then. He thinks for a while before he figures out what to do next.

The doctor is right; he definitely need some rest after the battle at Gilbratar. It was obviously no fun having to be taking on not one, but several mobile suits piloted by possibly elite ZAFT pilots, including 2 Gundams. Both of those powerful mobile suits are enough to take on fleets of Daggers and Windams, single-handedly.

Damn those ZAFT troops, we need something to go to their level.

"So, suggest me what to do now, because obviously my Windam is out of commission right now," he added in a rather calm tone to the doctor.

Well at least his concern for his mobile suit came after his own.

"Well there's nothing much you can do really, aside from rest. We're pretty busy here with the resupply. As far as your Windam is concerned, I don't know, I'm sure one of the nurses can find out what happened to it."

There was a call through the medbay, as another crate of medical supplies was dropped off inside. Nicol told the staff outside that he'd be there momentarily.
The supplies for the medical bay had been slow coming at first, but had started coming more frequently- undoubtedly due to the Captain's influence.
The critical patients in the emergency wing would be moved to the medical ward in JOSH-A once the current rigmorale was dealt with.

"I will have to leave you for now Mr. Springfield, should you need anything just call the nurse."

After the doctor made his leave, he then leans himself on the bed, awaiting for whatever that may happen next. He did not really look forward to jumping out of the bed and heading straight into a mobile suit, so he thinks that he might try to ask the nurse in the room or something about his Windam.

Except the nurse in charge of him seems like she does not really like to talk about fun stuff. Despite having an appearance of a teenage girl (and having a rather childish appearance), she seems like unsociable in his opinion, or that is what he sees from the way she talked with the other nurses. Or to make a long story short, she is slightly what the Japanese people termed as being 'tsuntsun', meaning someone with a rather combative personality.

[OOC: Tsundere nurses oh~~~.]

If there is something that she did not about doing this, it is the patient currently in the room of the recovery wing. Records suggested that he crashed onto the Ever-Ready, and that alone caused a ruckus among the personnel on board the ship. Not to mention, she have to look after the pilot 24/7 to ensure that he s at 100%, or rather, something near that range.

In fact, she never liked the way the pilot looked.

Must be one of those bad pilots that like to tease girls a lot. She mumbled to herself. In fact, her chest size has always been a constant joke among the male personnel on board of whatever ships she has been in.

She got so sick of it that sometimes she resorted to arguing with the males about it.

And she is very bothered that the pilot who just woke up has been looking at her all the time.

He should get a life.

He is still wondering whether he should be calling that nurse or not, since she looks like she is the only one in charge right now. Since the doctor told him to ask one of the nurses on the status of his Windam, he might give it a shot at it. Or just bet his luck, as he's afraid that he might be charged with something he does not do.

From the looks of it, the nurse with blonde hair, wearing female crewman uniform, is someone about his age, despite having a rather cutesy appearance, at least for a military personnel. She might be younger though, who knows.

"Er...miss," he said, obviously asking that particular nurse. "The doctor told me to ask you about my Windam, so I guess you might have an idea what happened to it."
