I disagree on point 4 and 5. If you are good, you may not need 1000 games to prove yourself. Level 6 and above seems too high. Is there anyone who beat level 6 here?

-----------------------
1)must be malaysian or just moa members 2)chosen by tournment (in otb or online ) 3)vote by members 4)atless play 1000games in any othello website . 5)wzebra deadsearch level 6 above . 6)can afford to pay the air ticket money ---------------------- hi, i'm matthias berg from the german othello club (www.othello-club.de.vu). i would strongly advice against using your 4) and 5) for qualification. 5) might be not easy to proof and depends on luck. i dont consider myself as being able to beat zebra level 6. i probably have won against it maybe but probably because the other settings were too easy (book randomness and so on). so what level am i at? i might be able to do ok against level 4, but actually i hardly ever play against zebra. i just use it to practise. i didnt do that bad at last woc and i believe you shouldnt limit a qualification to players of any kind of zebra level. you guys seem to rather have a one player team then a poor three player team. but i think most woc players would disagree with that. if you come to woc, dont plan on winning teamtitle or winning individuals anytime soon. especially not in the first woc for you. for most of the players woc is to have fun, play strong games with fairly good players, meet friends from all over the world. 4) seems a silly rule. a player who beats all of you but only played 500 games online, should not be qualified because he is too bad? or because he hasnt played enough online? if he is good, let him play, unless this rule is for those of you who actually have played more than 1000 games and want to make sure to have their spot in the team. but thats hopefully unlikely, especially since you havent even come to any woc. but i guess you will come to woc06 in japan. 6) will be an important rule (unless you have some kind of sponsorship there). 1) i believe being moa member should be enough, or at least with having lived and played in malaysia for lets say 6 months. that rule exists in several federation's rules. if i was to start my live in malaysia and couldnt qualify for woc there, i would be frustrated and maybe not play in moa tourneys anymore. maybe you are afraid of japanese players who migrate to malaysia just to play at woc 2) should be your major aim. while rule 3) seems to be too subjective. you would rather like to send the most popular then the best players? sure, we woc players want to meet popular guys, but we also want to meet the best players. i believe if you just vote about this, it is kind of unfair. the major problem for you is that 2) will be hard to do. as you said you have an ocean within your country which makes it hard to have qualification tourneys. i believe i already gave you a suggestion to solve this problem. you also might take the placement in the asian GP into your account. i would advice you to not only concentrate on one of those. maybe you take the best malaysian player in the asian GP (at kurnik) as one team member. you might organise two qualification tourneys (one in each part of the ocean) or you might organise one big one (maybe with the advice i gave you before) to decide about the other two. if you have several tournaments (maybe later) lets say like 2-3 in one part, 2-3 in the other and if at least a few players play on both sides of the ocean, then you could set up a rating list which could lead to a third woc spot. with those different kind of qualification you could make it as fair as possible. players who can only play online, qualify with asian GP. players who can only play in some otb tourneys, can qualify with the moa championship or by having a good rating. those ideas are based on my personal opinion and don't necessarily represent the opinion of the german federation. i also cant talk for all non-moa players, but i believe a major part of the othello world thinks similiarily. i wish you a good start into the othello world and hope you will send a woc team to woc05 or at least woc06. dont just avoid woc because you believe you are too bad. taking part in woc will give most of the players a big boast anyway. ciao matthias berg |

I think and consider that MOA which is currently still in foundation stage and needs a lot of moltivation both inside and outside.
To participate in WOC is a great move. But to set up all the basic requirement in MOA system now is still consider a better routine. I talked to Joseph Chen recently, we decided to move this website to a better place when fund is available some where around October, 2005. For members to participate in WOC in 2005 and 2006 which we do see a positive sign. Especially for 2006 which most probably will be held in Japan, a place which is consider close to Malaysia. But, let's say this year, 2005. Who are going? It's mid-year and MOA is still in baby stage. We do not expect any one from Malaysia going but we still open our route. If any one would like to participate in this year, 2005 WOC please let us know. We will arrange for the necessaries. I hope 2006 a Malaysian team will be there at Japan to join the rest of the world to share the love of Othello. I have discussed with Joseph Chen, a qualificating routine will be draw up soon for 2006 WOC preparation. So let's look forward. |
