Title: carson palmer out at least first 6 games in 2006
talltorrec145 - February 16, 2006 05:18 PM (GMT)
and just when the bengals were going up, the sporting news reported today he wont be ready by the start of the season, hopefully its too early to tell and he can be but, god dam this sucks

Well if they retain Jon Kitna and the team can go .500 in their first six games then the Bengals could still have a good chance at making the playoffs again with Palmer starting their last 10 games.

Kitna wants to go elsewhere. Doug Johnson, baby!

Doug Johnson huh, Well then I guess Palmer will have to expect to come back to an 0-6 team.

I would significantly overpay Jon Kitna just to get him to stay for next season. I get that he wants to go be a starter somewhere, but maybe he'll take that one year, heavy price deal with the knowledge that he will be starting a guaranteed 6 games.

Even after Palmer comes back it is not like he will be able to turn on a switch internally and the team will start winning. We don't even know what their schedule looks like, if they get a draw like the San Diego Chargers, they could very well be 2-4 in their first six games without Palmer.
I am however suspicious of these reports though about injury. Joseph Addai from LSU was slated to miss the entire season if I am not mistaken after an injury during spring practice, but he came back in the first game against Arizona State.

Personally I think the Bengals should just take their lumps. Yes, Kitna is the best option but he won't be cap friendly. I doubt he'd want to play part of a season knowing he'd be replaced as soon as Palmer was ready. He'd just be in the same position he was in this year all over again. I don't see him signing a one year deal just to help the team. His stock is pretty good right now and he can probably be a starter on some teams like the Bills or Saints
If they do squeeze a deal out of Kitna, I don't see it being incentive based. It'll be guaranteed money. The Bengals don't need a cap hit like that. Their high power offense is taking a step back no matter what. Why throw good money after bad by overpaying Kitna in the short term?
I bet the Bengals get a QB on day 1 if Kitna does leave. They know they need someone behind Palmer, and Kitna was a good someone, but he's gone.

That LSU RB was Alley Broussard, and he did miss the whole season.

It's so Jojo zen-like it's haunting.

I doubt Kitna stays, but the Bengals will probably need to sign a veteran QB for cheap who can handle the team.

I would want to know the source for Palmer missing the first six games. If he was put on the PUP list, then I believe he would indeed. It's all speculation at this point. As inconsistent as the reporting has been on it though, he may already be doing wind sprints.
