The Toledo Blade stated today that Bowling Green State University Jr. QB Omar Jacobs will announce at a 5:00pm (eastern) Press Conference if he will stay for his senior season with the Falcons or forego his final year of his eligibility and enter the 2006 NFL Draft

If he's calling a PC, he's declaring... BG didn't do sh!t this year to be having a press conference to announce he's staying.

Being from BG and having met Omar numerous times i wouldn't be suprised if he decided to stay. He has a great relationship with his coaches and teamates and is a superstar in this town (They even made him a billboard). But at the same time, his top 2 recievers and rbs were seniors this year and they lost a couple guys from the O-line too so i could see him struggling in the '06-'07 season

He struggled this year... Considering the down year he had, I just don't see someone like that calling a press conference to announce he's staying at BG... Then add to that what you said.

i wouldn't doubt a BG upset St. Johns this yr. Ryan Hoener is the best player in the NLL and they have a pretty good team so anything can happen

Shouldn't be a shock to anyone. I think even before the season started, most of us had him tabbed as a guy that would declare.

well, it was almost a no-brainer before the season started, but once it started, that's when the big cloud rose.

That information is usually not disclosed. They even have to sign a letter of confidentiality before they get that info. I am not saying it is untrue because there are leaks, but I wouldn't (excuse the pun) go to the bank with it.

The guy who gave me this little bit of info has been featured on NFL Network and ESPN 2 quite a few times. He knows what he's talking about.

Of course, nothing is a sure thing, but these sort of rumours don't pop out of thin air.

At one point Jacobs was NFLDB's #1 or #2 prospect.

I like Jacobs, but he needs work. He reminds of a faster version of Lefty, who needed to learn to take a snap from under center.

Another product of the Urban Meyer offense. I'm not saying that it'll mean anything one way or another for his career; but I will say that a kid coming off an off/injury filled year in a gimmicky offense whose past examples aren't exactly lighting up the league will be drawing some concern from NFL people. I was never huge on Jacobs in the first place, so me saying he's not first round caliber probably won't have that much of an effect. I won't go as far to say he's a 4th rounder, but in all honesty I can say that I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the 3rd round.

That's because Miller was on his jock!

The guy has 1st round talent, but probably should have stayed in school. I still think someone like Denny Green, after watching him (probably) look really good in workouts/at the combine, will roll the dice on him early, maybe even the 1st, and bring in a vet for a year to warm the bench, a la Kurt Warner. Or he could just hope that the amazing WR's will help him along faster and just throw him to the wolves, but I don't think that's such a good idea.

I completely agree, I would have to think he is a much better prospect than Adrian McPherson was last year who went in the 5th round. I think Justin hit it right on the nose.

Aside from LionHART there really aren't any other top flight QB prospects. We are talking about the same league that did see Alex Smith go 1st overall. I'm talking about Omar Jacobs here, not Marcus Vick.

Back to Omar...

After this season, I'm not sure that he'll be drafted before Cutler. I think he's a late first round prospect right now, but some team will probably fall in love with him.

I think Omar is the best of the Meyer products so far. And really, BGSU runs a bit different version of the spread option. He passes far more than the others. He still needs to learn how to drop back from under center, but I think in the long run that he's basically a running version of Leftwich. Kinda like Roethlisberger?

I still think he has first round talent.

On 1470AM The Ticket in Toledo they just said that Omar won't get past the Lions in Round 2, and that the recent performance of Charlie Frye (Another MAC product) may have helped Jacobs sneak into the 1st round
