Before Battle

*Squeak* Unin woke and stood wandering down to the end of the bed where Azumi slept. He sat on the edge looking at the ground for a long moment and then turned and ran up pouncing on Azumi’s chest. “I’m awake!” Azumi yelled shooting straight up in her bed throwing Unin off her chest. She scratched her head and moved out of the bed. “Today, I have a battle.” Azumi said looking at her calendar. The smell of eggs and bacon filled her home and she remembered Haruna was moving in today. Then she realized that if she was already here how late was it? Azumi grabbed a towel and ran into the bathroom to take a quick shower.

Azumi dried her hair and brushed it out so that she would be able to put it up in a bun. She put her hair up and carefully placed a senbon in it and wrapped the end as to not stab herself in the head while moving. Then, she pulled her Ninja Gi out of her drawer and put it on. She then grabbed the kimono that had been made for her and put it on. She then put on the rest of her battle attire.

“Azumi, dear, are you going to eat before you go?” Haruna asked popping her head in the room. “I made eggs and bacon.” Haruna walked the rest of the way into the room and watched as Azumi strapped on her equipment pouch and grabbed the Kumori Yaiba. Haruna walked up to her and placed a hand on her chest. “Good luck.” she said in a serious and kind voice.

“I will try my best.” Azumi said swinging at Haruna. “I don’t have time to eat though I will see you when I get back. Take care of Unin for me while I am gone.” With that Azumi made her way out the door pulling on her sandals.

Battle

Azumi walked across the grassy meadow to where she was to meet her opponent. The boy came into view and Azumi knew the battle was on in that moment. She quickly decided how she would start off this battle and quickly made a series of hand-signs. “Hinshi Amaguma.” she said and breathed out deeply seeing her breath even in the warmth of the sunlight. She then prepared and grabbed the Kumori Yaiba darting toward her adversary the gangly boy. “Mizu Kankaku.” She did another series of hand seals and she could feel the presence as well as see the boy in front of her now.

Azumi Spun around giving momentum to her sword strike. The Yaiba connected in a vertical slice sending the boy off balance. Rain started to fall steadly and Azumi’s vision went dark for a moment as she released the Mizu Kankaku. She performed another series of hand-signs and out of the rain a few balls of water began to swirl around and take form. “Tsubame Fubuki!” She activated the jutsu causing the swirling water balls to take the form of frozen swallows and shoot toward Raxona.

After the birds hit Azumi jumped back stabbing the Yaiba into the ground and performing another chain of much more complex hand-seals she then released more chakra into the air and it lifted up into the sky as she spoke, “Ten Yari.” Azumi grabbed the Kumori Yaiba again and dragged it along the ground pulling up dirt and grass striking upward with the blade then stabbing forward with the auxiliary blade on the bottom of the blade.

Pre-battle…
Raxona sat at his kitchen table in absolute silence, going over a mental checklist before the fight. He had everything he needed. He had worked through the forms of his jutsu at least ten times each in his mind. He had practiced some slight chakra manipulation to help warm himself up, but he was still nervous as hell. And who could blame him? Raxona’s last battle had been with a psychopath who left the battle with Raxona in mental shock and quivering in feat. Raxona didn’t want a repeat of that one. He tied his equipment pack on and adjusted it to balance the weight.

Raxona sighed. I have to try to do a bit better this time. I’ll be pretty worthless if I have two losses in a row and they also happens to be my only two friendly matches. Raxona scratched at the scar on his arm. It was fully healed and treated now, but the bite wound still itched for some reason. Hope I won’t end up with another scar like that one from this affair. Raxona said giving the jagged lines instilled in the skin of his arm and odd look on contempt.

He pulled on his shoes and headed out the door, making his way to the battleground.


Battle…
Raxona walked into the meadow and glanced up at his opponent. She was a Yukina, but that was all the information he had been given. This was going to be difficult. Then again, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and there was no sign of water anywhere around. He couldn’t count on that though. In the split second it took for the battle to start, Raxona had already begun. His mind calmed itself, centered. Calm, center, focus, steady, ready, mind, body, spirit… The words echoed through his mind and calmed him, allowing him to reach the state of MU.

Raxona eyes snapped up on the enemy. They were doing something, he watched at the enemy exhaled a thick cloud of condensation. That was unnatural. It was far too warm and sunny for that not be some form of technique, but Raxona’s hands were working too. He had pulled a black shuriken and his vail of Dokuyaku poison from his pack. He dumped the poison over the shuriken before replacing the cork and sliding it back into his pouch. Raxona reared his arm back and flung the poisonous shuriken at the Yukina while she was still weaving her storm.

The Yukina then charged him. Wow… That is an amazingly painful looking stick… Raxona gulped as the Yukina brought her spear to bear. Raxona had to time it right… just right. He worked his hands to form seals in perfect order and timing. The last one came. Stay calm… NOW. Raxona thought, snapping the last sign and stomping his foot against the ground. “Sand Pit.” Raxona said calmly as a shockwave of chakra was sent out, creating sand and causing the ground to crumble and collapse. Hopefully, falling into a pit of quicksand would halt the spear being thrust at Raxona. He balanced precariously on the pillar of solid land under his foot.

Raxona reached back into his pack. God only knew what kind of jutsu the kunoichi would throw at him next. He grabbed a handful of Makibishi and prepared the pitch them into the air. All around him, droplets of water began to fall. The area became darker and cooled off noticeably. It’s raining? What the heck? It must have been that first technique… Raxona thought. Oh, well. This will help me out too… Raxona pitched the makibishi caltrops into the air, forcing his chakra into them and causing them to rain down into the ground, masking their fall by the water falling all around as well. Timing is critical… Raxona thought. He saw his opportunity. Raxona channeled his chakra through the earth and caused two of the caltrops to rocket to the surface, puncturing the enemies foot and holding them in place. Raxona’s hands went automatically to the seal of the dragon as he cryptically breathed the simple word: “Yoraishin.”

Immediately, hundreds of multi-spiked metal objects flew from the rain-spattered ground, rocketing towards Azumi. The spikes puncture and rip at the kunoichi, propelled by Raxona’s chakra and will. He reared back, pitching a shuriken at the female ninja who was hopefully still stunned by the barrage of shrapnel. Raxona leapt off of his pillar and kept on the move, trying not to hold still too much. Under his breath, Raxona mumbled quietly: “Sorry…”

This is turning into a good match so let's keep it up people.

Azumi was mid way through her strike with Kumori Yaiba and jumped back causing the second blade to just go out of striking distance of Raxona. She had wanted some distance between them. If she stayed right up close there was less chance she could dodge an incoming attack. She then noticed the shuriken coming at her. She tried to think quick and could only come up with one solution throwing the Kumori Yaiba into the air and forming a few hand signs as quick as possible. “Kawarimi no Jutsu.” A puff of smoke appeared and the sound of metal clanging on metal reverberated, then the dull thud of the shuriken hitting the ground.

Azumi was now in the air falling to the ground without the Kumori Yaiba in hand. She grabbed at her equipment pouch and went to grab one of her senbon. She was almost on the ground when she realized what she was going to do. She did the hand seals necessary and hit the ground she looked up from the cloud of dirt and waited a moment until she was sure of his location then she released a senbon from her mouth aimed for the boy.

She then stood and raised a hand to the sky clenching her fist she looked at the boy and smiled. She pulled her hand to her side and the rain suddenly became ice cold. A giant spear of ice hurtled down from the clouds hitting Raxona and shattering into hundreds of kunai like Ice shards.

Azumi took out her ninja wire next and attached it to a senbon throwing it at the Kumori Yaiba and pulling it back to her. The Kumori Yaiba now in hand she looked back at the Ice shards that now covered the area where her opponent had been. She knew that it would take more than that to defeat him and quickly hurried again toward wreckage. She quickly made the same hand seals as before and activated the Ten Yari again while running toward her opponent.

Azumi stopped running about 3 yards from her opponent and did performed the hand seals for the Tsubame Fubuki. She decided that she didn’t want to get to close to this one so the best course of action would be to attack with something from afar. Again the air around her got ice cold but instead of just a few swallows appearing this time a number of them appeared ripping through the air and violently crashing into Raxona.

I'm really liking this fight as it has gotten serious from the start.

Raxona winced as he was pummeled by frozen objects. A blow for a blow wouldn’t work for long considering the superiority of the opponent he was facing. He opened his eyes and flung his shuriken, watching it sail towards his opponent as he hopped off of his stone pillar and headed towards her. As the shuriken was about to connect, Azumi pitched her spear into the air and replaced herself with it. He heard his shuriken bounce off of the staff and fall to the ground, but Raxona’s mellow and Mu enhanced mind was already planning ten steps ahead.

A sting of handsigns was initiated, creating a sand clone from the readily available source of the gritty substance left by the Demon Sand Pit. The Clone came to life, not as accurate to the master as usual do to the rain messing with the sand, but still fully functional. Raxona watched his enemy move, striking hand seals then hitting the ground with an odd look on her face. That moment. Her cold, calculating, precise look. Raxona honestly didn’t know what was coming, but he knew it was coming fast, and so his sand clone loyally leapt in front of him to take the attack in Raxona’s place.

The clone now moved so that Raxona could keep a good eye on the enemy. She smirked. Oh hell… If there’s anything I remember from Yoshido, it’s that smirking is NOT good… Raxona’s mind raced to calculate what was going on, but as she raised her hand and slammed it to her side, Raxona made his best guess that something was once again coming. But again, planning ahead is your best friend.

The sand clone covered Raxona as he ducked down, so that Azumi couldn’t see what was happening. Raxona had been standing next to where Azumi’s spear had fallen. He ducked, grabbing the spear in one hand with stealth, never moving or lifting it so that Azumi would see what was going on. Raxona felt the rain turn icy-cold. His blood ran a similar temperature as he initiated one of the most rudimentary jutsu ever developed. “Replacement.” He quickly mumbled in a tone so low that Azumi wouldn’t have a prayer of hearing it. At the last minute, Raxona replaced himself with the most obvious object on the field. Azumi. Raxona put himself in her shoes and put Azumi directly in the path of her own heavenly ice spear.

But Raxona never skipped a beet. Before Azumi could even open her eyes through the shower of ice shards and sand thrown into the air from the sand clone being strategically left in place to be spattered by shards which caused him to explode into dust and mask Raxona’s movements, another rudimentary technique was employed by Raxona, the art of transformation. He turned himself and everything he was holding into the simple form of the Kumori Yaibi, Azumi’s spear. Raxona knew she would retrieve it eventually, and she was likely to be in such shock and would have been working so frantically on her previous movements, that she wouldn’t realize it was in the wrong place.

Raxona mentally smirked as the staff was yanked up into Azumi’s hands, putting him in optimal range for another attack. Raxona released the jutsu, appearing extremely close to Azumi’s face and throwing her hand back from the transformation of an easily gripped staff to a gangly Genin. It would surely shock her enough to throw her guard off. Quickly, while they were still so close, face to face, Raxona struck the handsigns for another Akuma Sunaba, Slamming his foot against the ground and allowing the Yukina to fall down into the sand pit. He tossed the staff down into the churning sands, willing it to be lost from Azumi’s ice-cold grip. Also hopefully, being sunk down into a sand-pit, would once again throw off the kunoichi’s attack.

Azumi was very surprised by the sudden appearance of Raxona right next to her. He activated another of those sand pits, but this wouldn’t work twice on this Yukina. She started sinking as the boy threw her shadow sword into the pit to sink away. She had to stop it. Quickly she concentrated on the water falling and mixing with the sand and froze it. She smiled and looked up at the stunned boy. “Nice try.” she said she took out her ninja wire again and attached threw it at Raxona’s wrist. The wire wound around it and tightened. “Now, I won’t lose you.” She looked up to the sky and raised her hand again. She realized she was too close but decided that she had gotten herself stuck and if she had to she would go down with this boy.

Azumi lowered her hand slowly keeping a firm grip on the ninja wire. Azumi closed her eyes getting ready to call down the Ten Yari. She opened them quickly realizing what she could do. She took some more ninja wire and sent it out grabbing the Kumori Yaiba that was still stuck in the frozen sand pit. She pulled with all her might causing the wire to cut into her hand. Blood ran down her arm then hit the ground spreading out mixing with the water that had melted on the ice. Finally the sword broke the ice and flew toward her. She caught it and drove it into the ice around her feet cracking it and freeing her.

She then raised her hand again calling down the Ten Yari. The spear fell fast to earth and Azumi held firm to the wire letting go at the last moment and jumping then sprinting away from the impact zone. She got a safe distance away still looking at Roxana intently. She hadn’t taken her eyes off the boy on her escape. The dust cleared leaving the boy standing there. “Still standing!” she said shocked. She tightened her grip on Kumori Yaiba and charged toward him. She grabbed her Senbon and threw them as more of a distraction as she jumped up and came down from above with the Kumori Yaiba. She hit the ground next to him and swept the auxiliary blade along the ground knocking him off his feet. She quickly shifted her weight and brought the main blade down from above.

Azumi was now crouched on the ground she stabbed the Kumori Yaiba into the ground and place a foot on it pushing back and doing a back-flip away from the boy laying on the ground. She landed on her feet and bent her knees then pushed her chakra down helping propel herself high in the air. She twisted her body as she performed a flip making a familiar set of hand-seals then letting loose tons of the deadly ice swallows.

Raxona’s eyes snapped open. The Yukina froze his sand pit. He had been relying on that attack so much, and now it was worthless! Though Raxona’s mind was calculating, his body was filling with an intense combination of frustration and rage. As he ran in, Raxona struck the necessary signs for a Sand Clone, but the gritty minion didn’t rise just yet. Raxona felt the icy touch of steel wrapping around his left hand and becoming snug. Realizing that it was Azumi trying to keep him reigned in, he smirked. Oh, I’m not going anywhere…

Raxona rushed Azumi, twisting his wrist to reel the ninja wire in as he ran. See, Raxona wasn’t concerned with getting away, he was concerned with making sure Azumi wasn’t getting away. He kept wheeling the wire in as he ran. All of these things happened in moments, as the distance between Raxona and Azumi at the start couldn’t have been more than eight feet. Raxona’s hand met Azumi’s with a final twist, twirling the last slack of the ninja wire around both of their hands and sealed them together as he grabbed a hold of Azumi’s hand, lacing their fingers together and making sure that Azumi couldn’t get her hand free despite her obviously superior strength.

The Sand Clone Raxona had created sprung up just as he reached Azumi, guarding him from behind. It was sluggish, sure, but it came up right behind him, ready to serve his purpose. Raxona had recognized earlier a hand sign set that had been followed by a spear falling from the sky, after seeing the same set of hand seals and no spear, it was an obvious assumption that one would be coming. The clone watched the sky for the ice-spear, and at the very first sign of one, hovered over Raxona to take the projectile. He would be killed instantly, but he would have served his short life’s goal.

Raxona never lost his forward momentum as he sealed hands with the Yukina. His other hand was drawn back and clenched into a tight fist as he slammed it forward into Azumi’s face. It was nothing personal, but in desperation, Raxona was resorting to the most feral form of hand to hand combat. As his first blow connected into Azumi’s face with a crack, Raxona set up for his second attack, grabbing ahold of whatever he could with his forward hand (clothes, hair, ect…) and pulling Azumi down into a quickly thrown knee. Raxona’s knee sailed into the kunoichi’s gut, putting them at a non-existent range. The desperate shinobi still was clutching onto Azumi’s hand with all his might, praying to god it would prevent more handsigns.

As extra insurance to remove hand-signs from Azumi’s equation, Raxona quickly tugged a shuriken from his equipment pouch with his free hand and attacked Azumi’s free hand with it, trying to target any weak points that would remove or slow the range of motion. It was all or nothing with Raxona this time. The slightest screw up or hesitation would end in his utter destruction.
