Biography Physical Description: Whether he wishes it or not, Janos's physical appearance sets him apart from the others attempting to graduate the ninja academy. He is tall compared to them, as well as many years older than his fellow students. His silver hair is never cared for, often hanging down in front of his crystalline blue eyes. His clothing is usually among the darker side of the spectrum, and in great disrepair. The only garment worth mentioning is a black shirt, open at the front, with a ragged edge where the right sleeve once was. The other sleeve still inhabits its accustomed position, covering the formidable scar that mars the surface of his left arm. He is slight of build, almost gaunt; his instructors have often inquired into his health, but he merely brushed their concerns away... Personality: Outcast and full of misery, Janos keeps to himself. He deeply regrets the lack of connection he has with his adopted family, and has no bonds with any of his classmates. His instructors often show some concern as to his well-being, based on his age and strange demeanor, but he always brushes their concerns aside. It is almost as if he doesn't know how to be cared for, doesn't remember how to love. Though he does very well in the academy, his Sensei has remarked that he lacks warmth. There is no question as to his ability, or his determination, but more his lack of enthusiasm and his state of mind. Yet, on occaision, he becomes fiercely defensive and prideful when he is told there is something he cannot accomplish. Aside from these rare moments, it's almost as if he's just going through the motions of life, missing out on what there is to live for. History: This displaced Kaguya child walks through life as if a mere spectator, distancing himself from those around him, those that claim to care. He lives with another family, having lost his years ago; the Adachi name, though surely blessed with sufficient honour, is not his by birthrite. Nor is the village of Konoha where he was born... Originally hailing from the Hidden Mist, Janos remembers little of his childhood, save that it was filled with brutal conflict. The Kaguya Clan was not one for half-measures, thus he was thrust into battle at an early age. Even his young mind knew this was suicide; he took cover and fled, like a true warrior. In the aftermath of the battle, he was unable to reunite with his clan, with those who shared his birthright. From then on, he was alone. From then on, he had to make his own way in the world. He wandered from village to village, fending for himself as much as possible, for no proud Kaguya warrior would accept charity; but survival takes precedence over such things. Eventually, he found his way to the village of Konoha and was once more able to regain control of his life. Shaking, half-starved, the eleven-year-old child walked proudly into the village before collapsing, unconscious, on the road; succumbing to fatigue at long last. When he awoke, he was in the house of another; lying on what must be a bed. These Adachi brought him back to a semblance of health, giving him their home, their food, their love and care. At times, Janos wished he had the heart to repay their sentiments... He asked permission to enroll in the ninja academy as soon as he was on his feet; never again would he be defenseless. Never again would be be forced to huddle in a safe place while the sounds of battle echoed all around, with the knowledge that his family was dying and without the ability to act. Never again... Sample Roleplay: | QUOTE | Janos awoke; the dawn illuminating yet another uneventful day. At times, he wished it would just stop; all the conflict, all the struggle, all the pain. He pulled the thin sheet off of his slim physique, pulling on whatever clothes came to hand. He could hear his 'family' in the background; laughing, smiling, enjoying the meal. Just once, he wished he could join them. Just once, to feel the elusive happiness that came so easily to everyone else in this village...
When he walked downstairs, it seemed as is a wave of uneasy calm lowered over his adopted family, stifling all feelings of joy. He felt a pang of sadness, wishing his presence didn't pain them so. He would be graduating the academy soon, and he hoped in vain that they would look at him in pride, just once, rather than vague embarrasment and shame. Sure, he was not their child, but shouldn't all those years count for something?
He began to cry, hot salty tears spilling silently from his eyes.
Why? What have I done to offend these people, to become nothing more than an expense? Another mouth to feed?
He wiped the tears from his eyes, feeling ashamed to the core of his being for revealing his feelings so abruptly, and ran off to the academy; leaving the shouts of his surprised parents far behind.
Once he reached the academy, it was once more a typical day in his life; all feelings of shame and resentment pushed underneath a burning desire to succeed. He wanted, for once, to take care of himself; to not be a burden on anyone anymore. This seemed the best way to achieve his goals. Protecting the village of Konoha meant little to him, but if that was the price one must pay for power, for independence, then he would do it without question. He would prove the Hokage proud with his actions if not his spirit; with his deeds if not his heart.
The instructor snapped out a spit-fire question while Janos reminisced on his ideal future; it took him a few moments to realize it was directed at him. He spoke the answer almost as if by rote, earning him a quizzical glance, but nothing more. He sat back and watched all the younger potential ninja laugh and learn as he realized just how different he was.
The instructor caught his eye again; “What is the twenty-seventh rule of the shinobi code?”
He met the man’s eyes bravely, and replied “A ninja must remain true to his country, and devote his heart and soul to his people and his village, Sensei.”
As he said it, the words turned to ashes in his mouth; for he knew that this was something he could never do. He answered honestly, but the lie was so grandiose that he averted his eyes and felt the taste of bile rise in his throat.
Well, this will all be over soon. Just a few more days…
After class, he bade farewell to his instructor, smiling with only his mouth, and went home. Those were the last words he spoke that day, his mind filled with nothing but eagerness and guilt.
Soon, the day will come where I can leave this place and forget.
But he knew that was not true. He remembered almost every day before he found Konoha, and he feared this would be no different, that would be no solace at the end of the tunnel. No rest for the weary… |
