The Next Battle

"Aim another Water Pulse and attack again."

[Glenn]

Water Pulse cuts through the Smog, slamming into the unsuspecting Torkoal. Deailing heavy damage, Torkoal is unsteady on her feet. She's confused!

Flame is looking a bit nervous. "This isn't good for me. Torkoal, if you can still understand me, hit him with another Smog attack!"

Torkoal fumbles around, unsure of where to place her feet. Luckily for her, she finds her bearings and lets loose another Smog attack, which drifts towards Wartortle slowly...

"Great job Wartortle. Hit him with more pulsing water rings."

[Glenn]

Wartortle's attack streams through the Smog attack, cutting it in half and making the attack ineffective. Water Pulse slams into Torkoal, knocking her completely over. Flame looks at her defeated Pokemon with a small amount of disappointment. "Torkoal, I was hoping for more from you." Sending the defeated Pokemon back to its ball, she selects a new one and addresses you openly. "You fight passionately and have trained your Pokemon well. Now the time has come for my last Pokemon, Combusken!"

She sends out the ball, revealing a lvl 22 male Combusken. Combusken scratches at the steel floor with its feet, ready for battle. "Combusken, hit 'em with a Double Kick!" Combusken flies through the air, legs swinging, scoring two hits on Wartortle, knocking it down by a quarter of his health...

"Try to dodge the kicks and hit your opponent with more water rings." Wartortle attacked again...

[Glenn]

Wartortle is unsuccessful in dodging, but since Combusken is so close, he scores a direct hit with little effort. Combusken is blasted backwards, taking heavy damage.
"Shake it off, Combusken and fight back! Was all that training a waste?" Combusken gets up, shaking water from her feathers and glares at Wartortle with anger, but respect. Luckily for her, she wasn't confused by the Water Pulse.
"Hit it with a Sand attack!" Combusken rushes to the ashy area around a nearby furnace and flings it at Wartortles eyes. The attack scores a hit, lower Wartortles accuracy a bit...

"Continue attacking with water pulses. Try to wipe the sand out of your eyes first so you can aim better."

[Glenn]

Wiping away the ash does little good, but a streaming Water Pulse attack sure does. Striking Combusken in the leg, it deals some more heavy damage. Breathing heavily, and barely able to stand, it doesn't look good for the Gym Leader, Flame.
"Combusken, try another Double Kick attack! Aim for the head if possible." Combusken strains her muscles, running in and delivering a punishing Double Kick, again scoring 2 hits and dealing average damage. Combusken jumps back, but lands on her bad leg and goes down on the floor. She begins to pick herself up, but this could be the end...

"Do the same thing again." Wartortle nodded and more pulsing water rings floated toward his opponent...

[Glenn]

Wartortle's Water Pulse streams at Combusken, but is a little off target. The attack blows past, but by barely an inch. Combusken is too weak to have dodged it anyway.
"Combusken, show me your fighting spirit and hit it with an Ember attack!" Combusken lifts her head and shoots a ball of ash and fire from her beak, sent flying right at Wartortle's head...

"It's alright. Try to get close to Combusken and use the attack again." Wartortle began running toward his opponent...

[Glenn]

*Sorry for the wait. Almost forgot about this place for a bit*

Wartortle dodges the Ember attack deftly, rushing in for a close range blast. Combusken can obviously see what's coming, but can hardly do a thing with its limited movement.

"Combusken! You have to get out of there," cries the Gym Leader. Just as Wartortle closes, Combusken finally manages to rise to her feet. However, this only bring her face to face with Wartortle, who chooses this moment to deliver the final, punishing blow. Water Pulse slams into Combusken, blowing her back into the far wall, dealing heavy damage. Combusken slides down the wall to the floor, defeated.

Flame lowers her head in shame, then shakes her head in acceptance. "Well, there's no denying it: you are good. You have a true fire burning in your soul, and I am proud to give you the Inferno Badge, along with this." As she hands you the badge, she also hands over a TM disk and a wad of money totaling $2100.

And, as it turns out, Wartortle grew a level from defeating both Pokemon. Congrats!

*I've never heard what the TM is supposed to be, so just run with the fact that you got it.*

"Wow, that was fast." I return Wartortle to his pokeball, thanks the gym leader, and leave the gym...
