And I was pondering what I could wear if a outbreak did occur...

If it happend fast and you had no time to go anywhere to get gear or anything, so I am talking about just whatever is in your closet.

I think some of you may have appropriate stuff to wear...but for me I don't have anything.

But I decided to wear:

Tank top under a regular, plain shirt.

I do have a army/aviator jacket [not a original] that is light but keeps you warm and has a lot of pockets.

For pants, I'm screwed because all I have are fashion jeans really. But I figured a loose fitting jeans would work best.

For shoes...well I hate tennis shoes or any of the kind, but I do own a pair of converses. That is better than the rest of my shoes.

And double socks and underwear. May sound wierd, but I learned that from studying the Holocaust.

And I also wanted to talk about weather, dressing appropriatly.
Here in the desert it is hard on what to do. Its very hot in the day and cold at night. How would you balance that?

Well for me I'd try and avoid any kind of camo till I got outside of town. SHTF a dude running down the street in full fatigues stands out as a guy that has shit you want to take from him. It's the "The hey he's got a mini van," problem in "War of the Worlds." So on that note I'd have a bag with my camo in it and just go pretty much in whatever I was wearing. Half the time I'm wearing my combat boots anyways so...

Also I'd try and avoid letting anyone see any of my guns unless absolutely necessary. Again a dude running down the street packing a pair of .45's, a rifle and a shotty tends to stand out as a dude that you want to take shit from.. If you've got a tough, reliable vehicle keep the camo and the rifles in there and opt for a concealable but sturdy handgun platform till you hit city limits.

Eh I don't think I have to worry about that so much...the gun exposure yes,
But a lot of people here wear fatigues anyway.

you want to dress for the place your heading to... Most clothing on the market are not geared towards weather but rather for looks alone...

When Buying close most women i know say... that cute... that pretty cool looking, and get it for fashion alone. and theres nothing wrong with that.

But with a closet full of nothing but cute and sexy, what happens when you have to get the hell out of dodge and never look back? all the sexy in the world wont keep you warm in the mountians and wont protect your body in the blazing desert sun.

The tank top is a good under layer shirt to go with. but a nice light colored T-shirt, then a darker Colored T-shirt and then long sleeves heavy or durrable cloth shirt would not go unmissed. if it really hot, take off the top three layers and knot them around you waist like a belt. as it get colder, put a shirt on in stages.

Jackets. Hmmm if your gonna stay in the souther region of western america, yeah a nice coat for winter in a duffle bag is a good idea. a lighter jacket is a good thing. if it get really cold, you have all the shirts and both Jackets to fall onto.

Pants will become your best friend. I think their fashionable and all but my Convertion cargo pants can be both a full pant and shorts at any give moment. with a pair of sweats, and thermal I have walked around in Colorago 40 Below in the sunshine just fine and never once felt cold or uncontorable. but on the same token. I can go blazing hot summer days in death Valley heat. If push comes to shove and can convert to shorts.

Protecting Skin would be the goat here. your skin, is actully important, in the desert, while maintianing your cool is good, maintianing your skin is far more important.

I personally feel everone should have one outfit in their closet, that says to hell with fashion, i may need this to protect my own skin. BDU's naw... A good durable and tough outfit... something that wont shred it self over a little trip into the thickets and sand. that will help keep you warm and dry in the snow.

Cold weather wicking mosture away from your skin faster then you sweat... it not jsut about staying warm it about staying dry too.

First layer draws sweat away from the skin, second layer draws mosture away from the first 3rd and 4th draws the mosture away and out. the mosture on the outside then become a blocking layr on the surface form preventing the cold of penitrating the inside. it not enough to stay warm you need to stay dry as well.

Those are just a few of my thought on the matter... Think of it as a sort of Get the Hell out of Dodge outfit...

I'd head south, wearing Short pants, Running shoes, and a T-shirt with a sweater over top, I plan to be out of any area that's cold before the frost hits my bare legs.

I'd be wearing my cammies. The only way I can think to avoid that is by just wasting the first person that tries to take anything from you.

About 45 minutes from southpark, strait on through rabbitears theres a little hamlet that is almost totally invisable on almost any map you mind...

But the bulk of my Colorado days was spent in Southpark, then Steamboat Springs, then a small stay in Grand Juntion then finaly 3 years in Craig Colorado. and the 4 below thing was a bit of an embelishment as it only happened like once a year on me... Jeez... Take it so litterly... standardly it was 14-20 below...

Ah south park. smile.gif Windy as fuck out there too.

Hm...must be going on two years now since I went up that way.

*Makes mental note to plan trip that way.*

[EDT] Oh and I only asked because I wanted to go somewhere I could hit that cold. It'd be a new and interesting experience for me to be able to take a piss and have it freeze before it hits the ground.

Here the problem... Of the tops 5 instatutions to be looted by almost everyone when the Shit hit the fan, The army navy Surplus store is the of the first places that will be looted.

Pawn Shops
Wal-Mart/K-Mart
Grocery Store/Pharmicies
Gun Stores/Military surplus store
Smoke Shops

these % instatution are going to be robbed with in the initial chaos unless it happens really really fast. There are alot more but these are teh top 5 general Survival Goods store that many will flock to thinking they are the only ones what though of it on;y to find that their not the only ones with the same idea and then watch as it all goes away till almost nothing of use is left.

Don't pin your hopes on looting a store when the shit hits the fan... it will not work...
