Title: Announcements for happenings around Milwaukee

Luke J.F. - September 19, 2007 04:54 AM (GMT)
Ok so first of all I would like to "announce" that the University men from Marquette, UWM, and the surrounding colleges are planning a walk from the Exile Shrine to the Shrine in Waukesha. It would be roughly about an 8 hour walk, so bring a lunch and other necessities. It is still in teh planning, but it will be taking place October 6th. There isnt a time planned yet, but when it is finalized I will let you all know.

Second is the October Convention. We, the Boys Youth, were generously "donated" to set-up and put on the Opening Program for this. It is usually after dinner on Friday, and consists of Music, a Welcome, and just plain old fun. So maybe we could get a topic up on here started on a plan for that. Then there is the Convention itself. It is October 12-14. And any boys that would like to come and stay in the SBB is very welcome to do that. I know a few of us are already planning on this.

Thirdly and lastly, is the Ver Sacrum light, that belongs to the Philip Neri Shrine, which the Boys youth raised funds to re-guild. It is finished and ready to be put in. We will be planning on a date to put it back in. I will let you know about those finalized plans as well.

I am pretty sure I have everything. If I am missing anything that you guys can think of just let me know, especially you Father.

Ok thanks alot ya'll,
Luke Fenelon

Yeah, I was wondering about the VS Light.

Woohoo! Do we have to RSVP to the center if we are staying at the SBB?

Luke J.F. - September 19, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
Yes if you are participating at all in the convention then you would need to register. I am not sure what is happening with meals but you might have to pay for the ones we eat there. But if you plan on staying and doing everything at the SBB then no you don't have to register.

stratman - September 19, 2007 10:49 PM (GMT)
OK, cool. We get to organize the opening program. So that means we should probably finish it long in advance so that we can then talk to the girls and see if they want to plan something for it, like we want to play a song or two, they might want to as well. So yeah.

I think that it is appropriate that we at least take some part in the convention as is conventional :) That's what Fr. was saying we'd do. So in other words, yeah, we have to register. I guess I didn't have to think about it cuz my mom and dad are signing up my whole family anyway.

Phil,
I am not sure if I will be coming to the october convention. So could i have you talk to the other music people and see if you could come up with something for the program? Maybe get someone who is good with crowds to see what they think too.

Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,

OK, I can take responsibility for that. Got it. I'll start working that out.

Your welcome, anytime.

I was thinking maybe like a some music, something to show where everyone is from and stuff like that. I dunno, I'm sure you'll come up with something good though.

Fr. Mark called me a while back and talked to me about this, but it was before we knew we were in charge of organizing it. He mentioned that we could organize a song to present but there would only be an hour total to do the program, so we couldn't go forever. On the other hand, an hour is actually plenty of time to do several songs, plus a handful of activities to get all the people at the convention, young and old, to know each other and get into the spirit of the event. Since the subject of the convention is the shrine, we should pick songs and invent activities that all point to that and maybe kinda give a little nugde toward what the rest of the convention will be about. We could try that anyway. Isn't it a sweet coincidence that the topic of this convention is so directly related to our camp theme? That's also what the girl's motto this year is about too (to a certain extent). I don't doubt that our Schoenstatt authorities planned it out that way, but still. And what a great year to be thinking so much about the shrine. This year, we're getting another one in NE, the first shrine in the USA since, well, I think it's since 1976 when the Sleepy Eye shrine was built. Maybe I'm mixed up (I usually am).

So anyway, I'm going to go right down to my study and think about this program for awhile and see what comes. Talk later,

-Phil

I did go down to my study and I did think about this for awhile and something did come. I have a pretty decent idea of how many guys are coming to the convention. And I know we'll have enough guys to put on a song or two or three or more. It occured to me that it be reasonable that the girls youth have a chance to do a song or two themselves. It makes sense, right? Why the boys and not the girls? Well, there's two things wrong with that. #1 The girls don't have much musical skill in their numbers #2 We don't know if they will have enough people there to do anything by themselves anyway. So that leaves us with two options. #1 Just not have the girls youth sing or play anything and keep it simple. #2 Perform a song or two together with the girls youth. <-- that is what I thought of last night. What if we performed a song together? I don't remember anything like that ever happening before. The girls like to sing and all, but they don't have much more than vocals to offer, so I'm sure that it would work out great combining all of our instrumental, vocal, and technical experience with a male and female vocal arrangment. Should we try it? No matter how many girls show up, we could still do the songs just as planned. And that way, it'll make it less lopsided; both the boys and girls will do something. Other than that song though (or two songs maybe), it'd be fine if we did the rest of the program. Do you guys like this idea?

The idea of doing a powerpoint or something spectacular like that came to my mind, but was quickly defeated. Here's why. The whole convention will be full of that kind of high quality activity. And what we can give can't compete with that.

More to come later. United,

-Flip

Sounds like a plan with the girls youth singing with us. Nate G. do you wanna talk to the Girls youth representative and see if they want to do that. I think it is still Lisa Hegeman but Im not sure.

Is there a webisite or place I could learn more about registering and what the October Convention is?

In our MTA,

if youre talking about their leader, I'm pretty sure it is Marie Wycklendt... at least that is what Gabe says... according to Gabe, Lisa is at college. :D hope that helps...

Luke J.F. - September 26, 2007 05:26 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I forgot about that, Lisa has been he leader ever since the beginning, so I just figured it was her, but I guess its Marie, so Nate then just email Marie then.

architectofschoenstatt - September 26, 2007 07:53 PM (GMT)
I don't know the email.

I think all these are good ideas. Do you think that we could sing "Place of Rest". It seems more than vaguely right.

stratman - September 26, 2007 08:40 PM (GMT)
That's what I was thinking. And since we'll being recording that song anyway during the convention. So I think that is a good idea.

Nate I will get her email from my sister, and give it to you, you might also want to talk to Daniel Strandt, because he lives like a block from them or something.

stratman - September 27, 2007 08:59 PM (GMT)

Hey all,
A quick update on the Shrine walk this Saturday. It starts at 8am, at the Exile Shrine, and will go all the way to the Shrine in Waukesha, it will be over lunch so bring a lunch to eat when they stop. Any High School guy that wants to participate is invited, and should call Father Mark to confirm they are coming.

Thanks,
Luke

architectofschoenstatt - October 2, 2007 07:08 PM (GMT)
I haven't been on here for a week, but I just emailed Marie Wycklendt, so that's on the way to completion.

I can't waitfor RECORDING!!!!
