Anyone know any hobby shops in hongkong. I stay in Kowloon but don't seem to find any.

Thisinfo below is about 3 yrs old (posted on ARC) but me thinks that the shops would most likely be there still...Good luck and happy hunting!!

".....These are the shops I like to frequent when I am in Hong Kong (all are in Kowloon):

Universal Models Limited (UML) - have two great shops near each other in Mong Kok. The smaller is on Waterloo Road (which runs north-south to the east of Nathan Road). Easiest way to get there is to turn off Nathan Road east onto Dundas Street, go to the end of Dundas and turn left onto Waterloo Road (heading north). Go about a block and a half, under the KCR railway bridge, and UML is just on the left. This shop has a good stock of Hasegawa and Tamiya aircraft.

The larger UML shop, their 'flagship' store, is at 579 Nathan Road. This is on the west side of Nathan Road, opposite Dundas Street. Although the address is 'Nathan Road' you have to turn west off Nathan Road. The shop entrance is small asit is mainly on the 1st and 2nd floors (using 'English' floor numbers). This shop has a good stock of Hasegawa and Tamiya aircraft, as well as some other brands.

UML do not seem to stock Trumpeter, Hobby Boss or Academy.

Between these two UML shops, on Dundas Street, are many smaller model shops. Most sell armour, action figures or R/C, but some have a good range of plastic kits. I go to these for Trumpeter and Hobby Boss models, but they also will have Hasegawa, Tamiya, etc. Almost everywhere sells Gunze products; some have Tamiya paint, etc.

Continental Models is another shop with a good range but slightly dearer in price. I forget the exact number, but the shop is 3xx Nathan Road. Again, it is not actually on Nathan Road, but about 50 yards down a sidestreet to the west. The street is just north of the Wing On shopping Mall on Nathan Road. If you head south on Nathan Road from Mong Kok, Nathan Road takes a slight bend to the right and then keep going until you get to the Wing On centre.

UML does have another small store in Windsor House plaza on the Island (Causeway Bay), but they don't carry plastic kit aircraft anymore - only cars and Gundam robots.

I am sure there are other stores I haven't managed to find yet!

Remember to take ID with you (driving licence/passport/etc) as UML gave me 10% off some products if I could show I didn't live in Hong Kong.

I have learned when shopping for models in HK that I rarely get what I am looking for, but always find a bargain and come away with a surprise! I usually reckon on paying 1/3-2/3 of the UK price for Asian kits (other manufacturers, like Classic Airframes, are still cheap, but not *as* cheap). If you're from the the US the prices might not look so attractive - I think in pounds, and sterling is very strong at the moment....."

1. Sunny Models - Kwong Wah Street in Mongkok. Not Much Hase kits there. Not well stock with aircraft kits, they do have a selection on ships,they carry bager airbrushes though. Great for tools and supply.

2. Wai Lee - also on Kwong Wah Street in Mongkok. Again not much Hase kits, lack of a/c kits,have a nice selection of hobby tools and supply. bought a couple bottle of gaia thinner there.

3. Ying Ming on Sai Yee Street in Mongkok. Nice selection of Academy kits there, if you buy 2 or more there's discount, as for hase kits and tamiya kits not much of choices.Lots of car kits. They do have spares of gunze airbrushes.i think their Gunze Airbrush prices are much cheap compare to here.

4. Twineety, Again not much of choice for the A/C modeller. very limited. they carry badger airbrushes and lots of rotary tools bits for a resoanable price.great place to pick up supplies.

5.Wang Kee on Waterloo Street in Mong Kong, Small shop. lots of trumpeter kits a/c and armor, no hase there.

7.Continental Models - The most well stocked shop for A/c lovers, great prices for kinetics,revell. just a few pieces of hase kits there, Revell, Italeri, Trumpeter, Hobby Boss, Bronco, Kinetic, old Dragon are plenty.Nice selection of Lifecolors, Vallejo paints. No A/C aftermarkets stuff though.

8.UML. The only distributor of hase kits, was dissapointed with the small hase selection, but they've got the most dragon kits. Airfix, italeri are plenty too. There's tourist discount if you ask em. Buy more than 500 hkd u'll get 20% off.

2. Wai Lee - also on Kwong Wah Street in Mongkok. They also have another store in Wah Chai. But their prices also are quite good for Gunpla, Tamiya, supplies. They also carry Academy kits for a really good price.

3. Ying Ming on Sai Yee Street in Mongkok. Take B2 Exit from Mongkok MTR. They have great prices as well on Tamiya, Academy, Gunpla, paints, supplies. Ying Ming and Wai Lee actually are related and hence both are distributors of Academy. I know in Ying Ming, the more Academy you buy, the more discount you get. They also carry Roden, Masterbox, ICM now.

4. Twineety on Sai Yee Street which is beside Ying Ming. They got a good collection of really cool kits which may not be found in other shops from brands like Doyusha, Arii, Imai. Small but nice I think.

5.Wang Kee on Waterloo Street in Mong Kong (which is close to Kwong Wah Street). They have a good selection of Trumpeter (distributor), Tamiya, Hobby Boss, Gunpla, paints, supplies etc. Quite a bit of stuff for this store.

6.Tristar - they recently moved and a bit hard to find. They are on 1st floor on Yin Cheong Street, located in a commercial building. You will find lots of good stuff of their own Tristar kits, older Dragon, Trumpeter, and tonnes of aftermarket, books, magazines Vallejo paints. Friendly and helpful people as well.

7.Continental Models - take MTR to Jordan Station. near Wing On Centre on Nathan Road. Owner is a good chap and has really cool stuff. Tonnes of Revell, Italeri, Trumpeter, Hobby Boss, Bronco, Kinetic, old Dragon, Japanese brands, lots of aftermarket stuff (Voyager, Lionroar) , Lifecolors, Vallejo paints. Also the obscure ones like Revell Monogram and some Gunpla.

8.Falcon Hobby - a bit far as it's on the East side of HK Island. Take to Sai Wan Ho station. Mr Wong is the distributor of Eduard stuff and he's got tonnes of other aftermarket stuff for AFV and warbirds. Lots of good books as well. Very knowledgeable and friendly guy.

er...actually along those streets, a few of the small shops open after 6pm. but generally they're open pretty early.

So far I've been o the UML flag store in mongkok last month. The shop is located on nathan street but the entrance is facing dundas street. you can skip the 1st floor as its mostly selling toys & bandai kits. Modellers stuff its on 2nd floor. Give yourself more time looking around as the shop is fully packed to the rim. If you can't find the things you are looking for try asking the sales staff for assistance. At the front of the 2nd floor, are mostly dragon kits & all the other brands are at the back of the shop. For AM kits they mostly voyager PE sets

Have a good time hunting in the shop. Remember bring along some ID & they give you 10% discountwhen you show them.and they also have special promotion buy1 then buy 2nd kit special price for 2nd kit & 3rd kit.

You can try looking around for Tristar model shop at No.33, Yin Chong street, legend court, mongkok, hk. They sell kits and also AM stuffs but they are not open on sunday. I find most of the hobby shop in HK are closed on sunday except UML shop so far.

Thanks to u guys. Finally I found the hobby street of hongkong.
Most of them actually sells gundams or air gun. Sorry kah hoe I can't find the
scuderia. I even can't find any hasegawas evo. Pay a visit to model power
which I get myself some pe parts and carbon decals. Another one in kwong wah
street, if not mistaken, WAT models. He sells lots of hobby design pe parts. And decals
are kept nicely in folders. As for ship and plane models, sunny hobby got it all. Not
much military stuffs. Really nice trip in hong kong, not to mention their &*^%%#^* food!

last time i went HK also couldn't find a single scuderia, then i ask the model power guy, he said whole HK also looking that kit :lol:

I see UML on waterloo street, the SUNNY on Kwong Wa street..but not this one.

I miss a LOT of Trumpeter models ..
Only Continental (on Pak Hoi street & Woosung strt exactly first strt north of WingOn Mall) has some selection (but definitely not as wide as UML is on Dragon).
And Trumpeter is Chinese for gd's Sake...??

Oh..and WHERE is the Tristar shop now then ?
The old one on Yin Chong street 33 is long gone..there is no VISIBLE shopping Mall with multiple floors around that old spot which COULD harbour a (model)shop of any kind.

After my brief visit/stopover to HK I like to enhance the findings about HK shops:

I find most if not all directions by people on internet about HK of poor standard.
We have Google streetview for a couple of years now.
So please USE it , if you can't remember the exact street address.



1.UML. with a couple of shops around HK.
A must visit shop(s) for Dragon BUT NOT FOR TAMIYA ..but only one of their shops as they all keep the same stock.
Should you miss something in one, ask the shopkeeper to call the other shops for your missing kit and only after confirmation venture out to look the other one up.
Otherwise waste of time and expenses to go criss-cross HK.

AMAZINGLY well stored with Dragon models.
Discounts are: buy over 500HKD get 10% off (except the already discounted goods) and over 1000HKD get 20% discount.
Dragon go for 10% discount anyway (for foreigners , but DO ASK).
Oddly enough TAMIYA kits are as expensive as in EU or USA :
(tamiya 35282 = 460 HKD)
Pretty much all foreign models (Italeri, Masterbox, Miniart) are same price as back home.


2. Continental Models - (corner Pak hoi and woosung strt)
A must visit shop.

(do NOT ever use terms like "walk a few blocks south of this and that " it took me nearly an HOUR to find this shop after the insane directions of my predecessors).

Very well stocked with many different brands and the latest kitmodels albeit of the same models 15 boxes (for instance of all the Trumpeter versions of the STryker AFV he had only 2 different types , but of each of them 15 boxes..).
I find the prices proper and not at all "more expensive than others".
No discount for foreigners.


3. Sunny Models - Kwong Wah Street in Mongkok.

Small shop but always interesting models for a fine price.
Especially Tamiya on low end. (tamiya 35282 = 280 HKD).
Often they have (a few) older models for sale at very nice price.
Opens between 12:00 and 13:00 closes between 20:00 and 20:30 !!

4. Wai Lee - also on Kwong Wah Street in Mongkok.

Has more selection of models than 3, but a bit more expensive.
Though mostly focussed on Japanese Robot/manga plastic kits.
However, I did find some nice discounted old Academy Model kits there.

5.Wang Kee on Waterloo Street in Mong Kong....I Walked and looked for this for an hour walking up the waterloo road and asked around NOBODY knew.
And I was ESPECIALLY interested in a shop supposedly focussing on Trumpeter models.

Good for model train enthusiasts (1st floor) but BAD for Tamiya etc kit enthusiasts.
They had a couple of VERY old and WORN out Tamiya /Academy models, but dared to charge the ACTUAL expensive prices for stuff that is at least 15 years old.

I am sure I would have missed it anyway (what is it with HK chinese to systematically forget to make clear advertising/billboards outside ?? and forget about writing their opening hours ?? ).
I was visiting the HK Coastal Defense Museum (recommended!), so it would have been a nice combination to do.

In conclusion:
Dragon kits: 1 UML but only one of their shops
Tamiya kits: 3, 8, 9, 10 but NOT UML
Trumpeter kits: best guess 2 but there MUST be a better shop (number 5 ? Trumpeter being a Chinese manufacturer)
Tristar kits: best guess 2.
Academy kits: 8 (but don't rule out 2,3,4,5, 10)
Any of the other modelmanufacturers : best guess 2 or order in EU or USA.


Around 3,4,6 there are many RC model shops (boats, cars, helicopters).
Around 3,4,6,7 are many shops that sell pretty realistic fake 1:1 scale guns.
Another small electric train model shop is "near" shop 2..(I forgot : on corner nathan rd (west side) and between shop 2 and waterloo rd..).
