Title: The Texas Tornado
Description: moto gp
sky_tokyodrifter - November 1, 2011 01:43 AM (GMT)
I've already gotten my new camera ^_^ ^_^
Okay it's my time to host the movie. Come one come all sit on the couch and enjoy the show.

Being apart from what I love building best which are cars, decided to have my self a go at a moto GP build. It's a whole new experience for me and I kinda am enjoying it hehe
I'm doing the Texas Tornado. Guess who rides this bike? hehe....

The radiators. Modded by adding meshing since the sink marks on this side is just too crazy

Radiators from front section with very light wheathering

| what glue did you use for radiator mesh? |
I used a glue spray that can be found in a normal art shop. It's like a normal spray can but instead of paint, glue comes out of it. I've used it before during my university so it is available in local hobby shops ^_^

"glue spray" I used. Found that this was the best product to stick metal items onto plastic surfaces ^_^
To be honest, I don't have much time everyday to do models because of my heavy schedule as mention below:
1. go to work and finish at night
2. Head over to the gym
3. Go home eat and entertain the misses (a though job but somebody's got to do it  )
4. Do some modeling
5. Watch online movies
6. Sleep
Although I don't have much time doing models, I make it a target that I must at least touch or do something each day because doing model helps me to relax and it's the only thing that makes me enjoy ^_^ .
At the moment my body is up to this stage, hehe just thought I'd share my progress with you guys

Sky, what's with the tyre in your room?
Entau - November 2, 2011 10:43 AM (GMT)
looks like low profile tyre
nice progress bro! sempat lagi bergym...
sky_tokyodrifter - November 2, 2011 11:06 AM (GMT)
thanks for the kind words guys. For this build making the tyres look realistic was the very most challenging process. It may look normal but I had to do 4 to 5 coatings of wheathering to get the effect using tamiya wheathering kit.
Broder druid the rim and tyre in my room was a gift from our sponsors during auto salon. It was the rally version used on WRC subaru if i'm not mistaken. They used our car as a demo car and I just joked with them "eh give me lah this demo unit so that I can put it in my house for decoration" and they replied "if you can bring it home yourself, it's yours!" apa lagi...... angkut bawak balik haha
Entau, what to do.... cari makan maa....... hahaha
sky_tokyodrifter - November 3, 2011 03:01 AM (GMT)
I tried to capture the shine but I guess the indoor lightings just wont work so I'll have to wait until full assembly to take an outdoor pic to see the final results.
The story continues......
Guess you've already known who this mysterious "texas tornado" is? hehe :P

Bottom cowling done

Bottom cowling full CF and also treated with thermo heat protector from the exhaust

The thermo heat protector was done by using after market scale product which I forgot which brand  . They work like magic since the back side of the surface already had "glue" on them so just stick and press using cotton bud to get the shape ^_^

The meshing was done using Tamiya's mesh that was provided and glued using normal tamiya epoxy the one with the yellow label hehe

sky_tokyodrifter - November 3, 2011 06:04 AM (GMT)
entau, very enjoy the show ahhhhh
mel, sabarr....... ada banyak lagi item yang ada CF boleh buat lagi geram hahaha rugi wooo banyak CF pakai, tunggu post esok pulak hehe.
For the CF tak lama mana sebab dah biasa sangat buat CF so just trace 1 side on masking tape and use the same template flip it over and whallaa kautim. This process very fast. I think took me about 2 hours for each item sebab lembabbbb to wait for the CF to vacum and dry before adding a new layer <_<
The pearl white correct, Tamiya spray can :P Doraemon
Ulaq, mana hang menghilang lama oi haha. Itu iklan kasi menarik sikit cerita nanti asyik klimaks aja boleh sakit jantung org tengok sebab asyik berdebar debar   Sila follow cerita ni sampai penghujung untuk melihat apakah motosikal ini. Tunggguu..................

Entau - November 3, 2011 08:52 AM (GMT)
 sky bro, what scale CF did you use? 1/12 or 1/20? or studio 27 medium size?
sky_tokyodrifter - November 4, 2011 02:05 AM (GMT)
Iklan.....Today's show is brought to you by ngan yin peanuts
Entau, the CF I used is from studio 27 "size S" as given below ^_^ :

Actually the best scale to use for bikes is a size between "S" and "SS" but it would be funny to use the size "SS" since it's a bit too small and will only result in lines rather than the CF that I wanted.
The size S is a little bit "too big" for me but that was the closest. Comparison pics

BACK TO THE SHOW.................
Wanted to create a base for my display and I thought to go with the Yamaha logo. Steps done:
1. Print on piece of A4 paper
2. Cut and glue onto plastic sheet
3. Cut plastic sheet and sand paper
4. Done and ready to paint ^_^

Tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Wah this very kemas and beautifully shot.
I m sure if you put these pictures on Facebook
or any public forum, they would think these are real
parts. I never have any interest to build bikes before,
but after this....very inspiring bro.
Entau - November 4, 2011 07:39 AM (GMT)
iklan kacang
sky bro, u cut the yamaha logo also very precise, mcam makan kacang
u use rotary cutter for the circle to cut or using scissor? :P
sky_tokyodrifter - November 4, 2011 08:15 AM (GMT)
thanks enghui. I actually wanted to just publish it here and also my private FB page (but no explanation in FB). I didn't want to post it public because it would just defy the whole purpose of this forum. Therefore my moto is "if you wanna see more info, come to scale model malaysia forum" it's my way of showing support to this forum hehe ^_^ .
Entau, those plastic pla-plate was just cut using scissors and sanded using sand paper and also metal file. They are really fragile and scrared they would brake at the moment so gotta spray color quickly and get it stick onto my base before they brake off ^_^
Entau - November 4, 2011 09:59 AM (GMT)
pakai scissor, i see ^_^
feel like grabbing one bike kit and built it right now
Loo CK - November 4, 2011 11:47 PM (GMT)

sky_tokyodrifter - November 8, 2011 08:34 AM (GMT)
no lah entau, I know they have the super detail parts but i'm not planning to go that stream because too expensive so will just go for minor scratch build hehe. If I was entering a comptetion will definately go for super detail :P
sky_tokyodrifter - November 9, 2011 01:05 AM (GMT)
Todays show is brought to you by super rings

Encik, jangan balik Malaysia boleh??? Marah ni.. hahahahahaha...
Looks very good bro... the trolley looks very realistic and how did you build the tyres?
sky_tokyodrifter - November 9, 2011 09:04 AM (GMT)
the tyres were cut off from plastic beams which was already round shaped then the edges sanded to form a curve like a tyre's curve. As for the tyre's holder, it was built using normal plastic pla-plate cut + glued + sprayed with silver leaf and whallaa it's done ^_^
Entau - November 9, 2011 09:16 AM (GMT)
very nice! ngam ngam ngam... takde iklan minuman keh? haus ni
sky_tokyodrifter - November 16, 2011 01:42 AM (GMT)
IKLAN FOR TODAYBecause you're thirsty, I brought with me many "air kelapa" entau

I finally got this baby yehaaa. It's the first production and I bought it for collection as I am able to get "mana and the other lady's" signature so plan to have them signature this box for me to keep hehe ^_^

I haven't really done any progress lately because tried for many days experimenting with resin cast. It's very difficult to get the perfect cast because the seats have curves that easily traps the air out of it.
After many tries and failing, I finally remembered what I learned in engineering which was in order to push air outside a confined area, you can either vacuum, or push air with air (pneumatics) or pump fluid inside it (hydraulics), thus "hydraulics" was the key and managed to finally get the formula right last night
So here is the product yeayyyy ^_^

With just minor repairs, I was very happy with the end product ^_^

Just some sandings to clean up and applying small quantity of putty and this baby will look professional ^_^

Will make more of these tonight ^_^
BACK TO THE SHOW........I haven't really finished the frame so putting the already finished product was still a far away process. But I just had to test fitting on the rear piece ^_^

TO BE CONTINUED....................

looking great! slurrppp..... best jugak air kelapa,
Klay recently also experimenting with resin casting, he did mention about vacuum camber to suck out those air to reduce air bubbles, but i still noob at casting :P
