Title: Rf-8 Aerosan

This will be my entry for the AFV GB 2012. Not sure if it will qualify as it is not exactly armoured. I will leave it to the mods to decide.

I bought this Trumpeter kit from HHQ during the last week of 2011 and cost me a little over RM20 after discount! The kit didn't receive a good review on PMMS but I figured it would be a good 'appetizer' to get myself building again.

The parts fit is very good, with little need for putty.

The main peeve that Terry Ashley had with this kit was the rivets. Aerosans were constructed using plywood and the screws were mounted flush so the surface should be smooth. This would have been easy to replicate by simply sanding the surface smooth. I decided to leave the rivets in place as it makes it look more interesting. I also used copper wire to simulate the shock absorbers as this gives it an irregular and worn out look.

The 'cockpit' is fairly basic. Most of it will be hidden when the seats are installed. The seats are very simplified. I do not have any reference photos of how they look like but have decided to replace them.

Next up.... replacing the seats.

Interesting subject!

Somehow this thing reminded me of G.I. Joe cartoon series. Don't know why :).
