Title: Deustches Afrikakorps Subgroup Build.
Description: Modeller - Phoon, D.A.K and Izzy
Izzy - January 16, 2012 08:47 AM (GMT)
Hi Guys ...
Me, Bro DAK and Bro Phoon ... just had some initial discussion .. and we think as we have similar interest in Deustches Afrikakorps .. we were thinking to collaborate on a mini subgroup theme based on Deustches Afrikakorps.
We were thinking to build early light tanks used by Deustches Afrikakorps during the campaign ...
Bro Phoon is doing the Ausf F, circa 1943 in Tunisia
Bro D.A.K is doing the Ausf C circa late March 1941 in Libya
Me doing a Pz1A for the Battle of El Alamein ...
More detail and discussion .. hope more members can join as well :D

Panzer rollen in Afrika vorOne of the effective method to keep up our morale and motivation in this sub-group build, when laziness and Darth Real Life throws the spanner onto our rolling panzer tracks!
CLICK on this picture to view the YouTube video

Panzer rollen in Afrika vor is marching song written by an unknown DAK soldier in 1942 and composed by the famous German musician Norbert Schultze (26 January 1911 – 14 October 2002). It came out in 1942 to boost the morale and inspire the German DAK soldiers in their battle against the British and Commonwealth forces during the North African Campaign.

Hi moJimbo
Will you be adding some Afrikakorps artillerymen in action poses firing your AFV Club Flak 88 kit? :)
Read online reviews on this kit :

where the metal parts provided makes it a notch higher over Tamiya's Flak 88 gun.

yes that's the one :)
i was thinking of doing the 88 on its limber, towed by the sdkfz 7 (gonna use the trumpy kit for that).... plus i have this DML set of 4 afrikakorps figs - the one where they're sitting on jerry cans, taking a lunch break
DAK Trooper - January 27, 2012 12:00 PM (GMT)

This must be the set that you're referring to. These 4 figures and pet dog came as bonus figures with the Dragon Panzer III Ausf AfrikaKorps set that I've bought.
From your description they're taking a short "minum" break before resuming their journey to their assigned location? ;)

those are the exact figs (minus the kubel) but i got mine together with the DML panzer 1b DAK version :)
yes, taking a short break.... well that's how the story go so far

Blackheart, what is the official German name given to this captured and modified US M3 halftrack? I'm certain that this halftrack is captured after the disastrous Battle of Kasserine Pass, where the DAK "acquired" many intact US halftracks to transport their infantry across Tunisia.

Since this GB discussion are quite happening, why not we should move onto datelines topic?
Commencement : ???
Dateline : ???
In order to spice up this event, perhaps we could have some plain healthy competition??? Just my cents worth........
:)
Izzy - January 31, 2012 02:35 AM (GMT)
My suggestion
Commencement : Anytime now
Dateline : June 2012

Not necessarily, this sub-group could set its own dateline. Izzy's proposed dateline looks reasonable.
phoon - February 1, 2012 04:19 AM (GMT)
Dear all,
Before we agree with optional datelines, I would suggest to appoint a groupbuild leader for this sub. Say the topic starter would be an ideal candidate? As for dateline falls on April, I would said it's sufficient for an AFV subjects only. But however, as to including diorama elements in it; I would have a doubt providing how extensive the diorama build goes.
April as dateline :-good for vignette, something plain and easy. But it would be less challenge due to dateline bounding.
June as dateline :- good for diorama, lotsa interesting elements could portray into it. But it will tends to wear off participants interest (semangat) as as dateline prolong.
Conclusion :-
1. Select a groupbuild leader to spearhead this sub.
2. Firm up project dateline.
Since this topic were bring out by Izzy, I would vote for him to be our leader. What says you?
DAK Trooper - February 1, 2012 04:29 AM (GMT)
I second the nomination for Izzy to be Group Leader.

Hi guys
Just to clarify on this issue re. GB protocol.
In generally accepted practice of sub GB or SIG (special interest group) within a larger GB the closing date is the same. This is how its done with other forums and clubs.
If there is a seperate date for the sub GB then it becomes strange because there is no joint identity between the two. The sub GB should follow all the rules of the main one, its just that the subject matter is specialised within a certain historical period etc. At the end of the day everyone presents their builds on the same day - this is the whole idea and certainly what Aneh GB is all about.
I think if you guys would to have your own mods, rules and closing date it is best that this DAK GB be established as a stand alone GB in its own right with a June deadline. You can just let the forum mods know and this thread can be opened separately. Of course we would be happy to support with our builds if possible.
I hope you can understand where we are coming from here.
Izzy - February 2, 2012 02:15 PM (GMT)
Good response and comment there Bro landy ... appreciate it.
I will discuss this .. if we feel .. we need to separate this section .. i will get permission from the mod to move DAK as a GB .
Thanks everyone .. seeing very positive response from all the people here in the forum.
landyshah - February 3, 2012 02:58 AM (GMT)
Syabas brader.....let us know. If June I can try squeeze in my Bedford/Flak to support :D
Izzy - February 4, 2012 02:29 PM (GMT)
hahah .. thx for the support Bro Landy ..
A quick question . who should I ask to get a a new thread for DAK GB?
