Don't too sure it is practice or show but a single SU30 had performing aerial acrobactics at Subang Airport Thursday morning and just now, about 10.40am.

Each display about 15 to 20 mins.

For sure, practice session.

SU 30 went up again 2 more times each about 10 -15 mins sessions. At stall height, the plane can really hang some time.

No wonder,

I was wondering why a Nuri was flying at tree top level speed swerving diagonally left and right between the warehouses while approaching TUDM.

It was like how a gunship would come in low over the treetops to engage the enemy.

I was on the way to work.

Cheers,
Richard

Couple of years back, kuman saw a kid hanging on a pitot tube of an airplane at the same anniversary at Subang. After that ,they placed rope barriers..ahhahaa

I remembered Lan's words "Budak itu bergayut kat atas"

I can see the TUDM base at Sg Besi from my window

There are lots of helos of the apron...counted 7 Nuris, 1 Alou, some of the boring VIP / army and navy things...plus tentage in front of the terminal.

If only they had a historic flight of the old stuff from the museum...a 'Bou or something...that would give a whole sense of tradition. Well, Alouette and Nuri is equally veteran, so ok lah

Luckily nothing russian at Sg Besi :P

Passed by Sg Besi this morning, saw 3 Nuris rehearsing with flags and coloured smoke. Truly a sight to see.

did anyone turn up for the Open Day today? Went there and as usual got stuck in the throng of crowds and despite the weather and the heat (my car temp read 48C when i picked it up!) i managed to get a few snaps.

aerial display was limited to one Nuri, one MiG29 and the Su-30 in the morning sesh but although the weather was good for it - too many brollies in the way

static display was the usual assets - about 12 planes and 2 helos which again was ideal weather for pix if you can block out the people.

of course coming out of the base was the usual jam - although they have improved the traffic flow - it still took 25++ minutes to get out

anyone else has any feedback on the event?

I was there from 10:30 to about 2pm; agree with all of the above. Beautiful display by the Su-30 that also included the Pugachev Cobra manouver.

Also lots of defense contractors like Sapura showing off their UAV and Future Soldier System designs. One other company was handing out free samples (ala supermarket chicken nuggets) of survival rations.

Waited forever to get a chance to sit in the Eurofighter Typhoon cockpit. But it was worth it in the end IMO- my first time in a jet fighter cockpit!

I was there from 10am to 12pm and was very lucky enough to catch both Mig-29 & Su-30 solo aerial display. Dissapointing though as no F/A-18D there. The hangar is jammed pack with people so bringing both 6 years old boy & a year & a 1/2 year old baby is not advisable plus the weather is too hot outside. Manage to get a few pics of my son with some of the aircrafts on display. A very memorable experience for the whole family.

Didn't bother although it's walking distance from my house, perhaps due to weather.
Actually it's because I don't like jets and the fly by's just interupts my TV viewing. Seriously when they're low enough everything shakes and I get silent movie.

The first time I would propt my chair in the garden and watch the displays but it's only single jets at a time. It was better when the Red Arrow and Thundebirds were here and that's what I call a display.

Cheers,
Richard

Yeah single grey jet going up and down is kinda repetitive...

Formation aerobatics is what you call a display :D The Taming Sari team was more interesting in that sense....better still, tactical landing of Herc, and one going backwards!

Compared to the 2008 open day, i consider this one a bit more tame as there seems to be less military planes on display. No kid swinging on pitot tubes this year as most exhibits are guarded by Paskau members!

There were also photo opps where you can suit up in a flight suit and have a pix taken (with a fee of course!). There's one next to Cik Su for twelve bucks.

Highlight is the Typhoon mockup, though it took ages before our turn.
