The Monogram F-8E was built some 15+ years ago and I stripped everything down and am redoing it. It was rescribed.

The F-4J project was scrapped.

Here is the Monogram 1/48 F-8E. Again, this was stripped and rescribed. I am using Eduard PE detail set, True Details resin cockpit set and some Highfliht pieces for under the raised wing. This one will be VMFA-235.

This is with the wing dry fitted. The wings will be folded.

Been a long time since I updated this post. The F-4S has been scrapped so I am only working on the F-8E now.

Painted and gloss coated. Waiting for gloss coat to fully dry to add decals and a wash.

Nice to see the F-8 is back on track... Will keep a close eye on this build. I have a Revell F-8 and might do the same thing with it. smile.gif

Thanks druid_99. Looking forward to seeing yours.

Disaster struck on the F-8 today. I will try to continue.

Got the decals applied and the red printed decals were very brittle. I managed to save most of the ones that were applied to flat surfaces. The two that went around the nose weren't so lucky. Those shattered like smashing a mirror on the ground. Micro Set or Micro Sol didn't help at all. The pieces just started to crack and fall off as soon as I touched it on the paper backing. It was too late to try and save with liquid decal film.

Crisis averted. I used my old Monogram kit nose decals which worked better than the SuperScale ones. I just need to do a little cleanup around the intake edges.

Monogram kit nose decal in place.

Moving right along. I got the wings attached with the weapons. Just a few smaller things to add and I hopefully wil have it done within the next couple of days. I forgot to paint the wing tip lights and top fuselage light. It will be a pain to try to mask off the areas with everything attached. I will figure it out, I hope.

The rockets look gray but are actually faded olive drab. The light from the flash really brightened it up and gave it a gray appearance. They are darker in natural light.

Thanks all. Almost complete. I still need to paint the lights on the wingtips and upper fuselage. I will post pics soon.

Sky, Godzilla was there to make sure the second set of decals behave. HAHA!

Mr. B, Yes I rescribed the whole kit.

Ha, last of the true gunslingers,

Lovely markings. One of my favourite "Jets" "ahem". Boy that was really difficult to say since I'm more prop driven. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Cheers,
Richard

I had it displayed at McGuire JFB on Saturday as part of our model club exhibit. The wind blew a sign over and the sign fell on top of the Crusader and broke some parts off.
