Hasegawa New Releases - July-Oct 2012 Part 1

Hasegawa New Releases - July-Oct 2012 Part 2

Here's hoping they do a proper job with the 1/72 F-15E which is their existing kit with newly tooled parts.

Which of it is a brand new mould?

Arent these all like their old or existing kits with new decals, new box and some retooled parts? Slap on a limited edition label, or the new tactic is 2-in-1 konon, and presto, new price tag

Honestly, they are a con job company I feel, close fight with Tamiya. Wheres the REAL new mould releases like Revell and Italeri are doing?

Well, the Eurofighter Typhoon is a new tooling.

Previously, they re-boxed the Revell Germany kit for their Idolmaser series.

Besides that, the 1/200 scale 787-8, ASF-X Shinden II and the 1/12 scale Office Desk & Chair set are also all-new.

But, you're right as rain - Japanese model kit companies look as if they are running out of steam - especially when you have to resort to producing an Office Desk & Chair set. happy.gif

laugh.gif I mean, that is just sad la

They were so great once.....modellers are crying out for new moulds of old stuff...They should just look at the Airfix catalog and see which subjects have not been revisited in years, there alone got so much potential. I suppose older subjects are too mah fan for them to research? That will be an epic fail

I take it back my words against Tamiya - at least they came up with the superb Mustang and Spit. When did Hase last come out with something in 1/32?

I'm no fan of WW2 Japanese aircraft, but I think Hasegawa released a new-tooling 1/32 Raiden last year.

I wish they would release some Cold War goodies like a new 1/48 F2H-2/3/4 Banshee or even a 1/48 F9F-6/7/8/P Cougar.

These are not large aircraft which means the tooling won't break the bank.

But, you can see the new school guys are starting to take hold in Hasegawa, which started with the new tooling 1/72 Su-33 and now the 1/72 Eurofighter Typhoon.

I agree that the limited edition kits Hasegawa releases generally cost more than the original or standard boxing of the kit.

But this statement might not paint the right picture in many cases.

A standard production boxing of say a 1/48 RF-4B Phantom II retails for 3,200 yen.

In comparison, a limited edition issue of the same kit with just different decals will retail for 4,000 yen, which is 25% more than the standard kit.

Won't debate whether the cost increase is justified, but researching, designing and printing new decals and box tops also cost money.

Another example is their 1/48 F/A-18E/F Super Hornet kits which retailed for 5,800 yen when first released. This price was maintained in the numerous limited edition boxings released since then.

Only when they updated the mould in 2011 to include some updated details found on later production aircraft did they increase the price by 100 yen. For example, their EA-18G Growler retails for 5,900 yen.

The exception seems to be the Idolmaster kits, which are really sold at a premium and way more than the 25% increase in the RF-4B example given above.

It's possible that there are royalties to be paid for the Idolmaster kits.

I have to agree with Landy on this with regards to some of the Japanese manufacturer's kits. I received my "retooled" Tamiya 1/350 USS New Jersey yesterday and spent the better half of the evening comparing the extra parts. The additional PE set was already covered with AM sets while the additional turrets .... doesn't really make any big difference to the kit after build up.

Plan to convert this kit to the modern USS Iowa or Missouri so the lack of difference wasn't a big issue to me, but for those hoping to see something new or different, I think they may be disappointed. Price also up by almost 3000 Yen. Good thing I redeemed this kit using my Hobby Search points.

Beginning 1 AUG 2012, Tamiya is increasing their product prices. However, at the moment, there is no indication how much they would increase.
