Corleone,

It's still the only VF-111 jet in 1/32, so it's OK.

This is a fun event, and no modeler will be denied the chance to participate with the F-14 he/she put in time and effort to build.

Keep on building!

6. Poopeh - 1/72 or 1/48 F-14A IRIAF

Hi Poopeh,

Just looking at the interisting list of your participating models for the party.
Is the IRIAF a built or yet to be built model?
The reason I ask is because I am interested to do a IRIAF scheme for my 1/32 F-14A.
Tamiya orginal kit came with the imperial IRAF. I prefer the IRIAF.
I believe the Fujimi has a good kit for that scheme - the Ali Cat.
I am not sure if the color scheme is still the same for IRIAF from IRAF.

I wonder if I can get more info from you for this scheme. Thanks.

I will see if I could get the big bird out to join your guys for the party.

Kuman,

Welcome to the party!

As for MiG-25, F-14's & Libyan MiG-25's have been intercepting each other over the Gulf of Sirte, so a Libyan jet might be OK.

Of course, it's also very possible that Iraqi MiG-25's & Iranian F-14's may have met each other in combat.

Jason

thanks Jason..

at least i'll try to finish & attend the party....

..................

- What about MIG-31? does F-14 ever exchange "salute" or fire during the F14 service day?

anyone any info on that?

because i just went thru my stash (which is NOT that big) i found a 1/72 MIG-31... then got me thinkin.. maybe can include in this session...

so any info guys?

thanks

MiG-31 - probably not, but I really can't say for sure.

China operates the MiG-31, and I don't know if there have been any intercepts or incidents over the Taiwan Straits, during one of the many 'shows of force' over the last 5-10 years.

Pandaren,

Tall order, but try Superscale or CAM decal. Don't forget Aeromaster & Eaglestrike too.

If you can't find it, just get decals for jets from the same squadron with similar markings and then change the modex & bureau nos.

Kuman,

As far as i know the F-14 went up against Iraqi a/c and russian mig-25. Never heard of them going against mig31 though. known a/c that went against the Iranian F-14:-
Iraqi AF
(i) Su-22
(ii) Mig21
(iii) Mig 23
(iv) Mig 25
(v) Tu-16
(vi)Mirage F1
(vii Mil 8
(viii)Tu-22 Blinder (not sure if it was actually intercepted)

MiG-21,

I've started construction of a 1/48 IRIAF F-14 and i think should be able to finish it. If you are going to build the fujimi kit you can build an IIAF. I can't remember what exact decal was given in the Ali Cat kit but in the SU-22 Killer kit they gave both the IRIAF and the IIAF markings. HOWEVER in the SU-22 Killer kit, the marking for IRIAF is incorrect. So that kit can only build into an IIAF Tomcat

Both IRIAF and IIAF uses the same colour scheme which is the Asia Minor scheme as it appears during first delivery in late 1970s. The same scheme remained during the whole of Iran-Iraq war. Thereafter sometime in the 1990s,IRIAF changed it into a blue gray camo scheme.

Pandaren,

Some time back there was a lengthy explanation on the modex no. system in the general discussion forum, I think.

Anyway, in both of your cases the modex no. is 205.

The Bureau No. is the Navy aircraft 6-digit serial number system. Normally painted near the horizontal stabs & ventral fins on the F-14 - try to read it off the photo or from whatever reference you have.

pilot-LCDR Joe Edwards
RIO- LCDR Scott Grundmeier

13 Nov 1991, USS Eisenhower: During a mission in the Persian Gulf this VF-142 aircraft lost its radome when the latching mechanism failed. During the departure the radome came in contact with the canopy and broke out the forward glass and shattered the windscreen. The pilot suffered a broken right collarbone and glass in both eyes, but managed to bring the jet back to the ship for a perfect two wire landing. Forward visibility was restricted to looking through a three inch hole in the left windscreen since the rest of the forward glass was so badly cracked. The pilot was LCDR Joe Edwards and the RIO was LCDR Scott Grundmeier. LCDR Edwards was medevac'd to Bahrain for eye surgery then home to the US. Currently he is a pilot for NASA in the Space Shuttle program. Both crew members received Distinguished Flying Crosses for their remarkable achievement. Aircraft is believed to be 161422.

2. I think this squadron have upgrade to F-14B so i not sure wat type of model when this accident happen. But I do believe it was type B, because I not sure is tat they do upgrade when 1989.

3.Eh.. I think this is most big problem... Wat Kit is more suitable for this? Cause it need to show radome... And also the Decal.......
