Pkf.85 Ma.k Falke - Am I Being Too Ambitious?, Trying this for the Sci-Fi Group Build

My latest poison tongue.gif Whenever I'm working on my Battlestar Pegasus, the Falke seems to keep calling me ... haiseh .... darn distracting, keep on stopping work and go drool over my new toy. Finally cannot tahan anymore, decided to put all my other projects aside and concentrate fully on the Ma.K Pkf.85 Falke.

Right now, I've got ideas .. in fact so many plans until now I'm a little scared if they're even feasible or not.

I'm thinking of doing mine as an under construction unit, meaning a new Falke being built in a warehouse/factory setting, and I plan to strip the kit to its frame chassis.

The engines and electronics will all be exposed. Its going to be a real challenge as I have never done anything like this before. I was inspired to make the Falke look like a real operational work horse. I got this idea after viewing Catchaser's thread at http://maschinenkrueger.com/forum/index.php under the Falke Groupbuild, and I was so impressed with his work.

I have set the following criteria for myself to see if I can achieve it:

1. It has to look 90% like the original design (the remainder are for the additions of a landing gear, maybe a set of turbine boosters and maybe, just maybe add in more firepower)

2. Subsection details (bow, aft, cockpit, starboard and port), going to use lots of gribbles to emulate and highlight engine parts, electronics, wiring, pipes, hose, etc (definitely going to need advise on this area later)

3. It has to emulate (or at least try) to give her a WWII look and feel, this is Ma.K after all.

4. It has to look cool and be a tad realistic in a Sci Fi sense in terms of operational features

5. Must have fun building this - most important rule here

..... unsure.gif Right now all talk .. don't know if this can even be done by me or not yet tongue.gif

I'm still gribble hunting .. so far I think I've got abt 60% of the materials. Still studying the Hull parts to determine where I can cut cut.

Will keep everyone posted on my progress soon

Ok, I was hoping to be able to show more but its really darn difficult working in the heat. Need to install an a/c unit soon in my workroom tongue.gif Also, its not easy cutting all those parts .. whew, really feel like I took on more than I can chew

Here's my progress report so far - not much to show for yet

Butchering went crazy

You can see the holes I've cut for lower fuselage. I haven't had the chance to clean up the tail end gaps. Still considering the fan looking thingy at the 2 sections just below the holes at the forward section. Thing is, if I cut there, I need some greebles to fill in and I haven't found anything suitable yet.

The left upper hull is still untouched but when I'm through cut cut, there's not going to be much left there as well tongue.gif

Would you believe this was the reason why I started this project late? I need parts for the engines, turbines, electronics, etc .... thank goodness I have a lot of old car kits I no longer need. Already identified a few parts I need from a china imitation of blue thunder, Pegasus Chemical and Power Station parts, 1/24 scale car kits (Tamiya Testarossa, Mercedes 500SE and some F2 car kits plus a few others I can't think of right now)

Internal test fittings

Still working on the skeletal frames but the engine placements are abt there. The large tank at the back of the cockpit - its just there to prop the cockpit foreward tongue.gif

I wanted to use another engine there but it won't fit. I'm also goin to cut holes for the engine nozel. Going to put in a propeller and a small motor (depends if I can find it and how heavy it is)

Cockpit area is really going to be tough as I plan to use electrical wires to add some realism

External test fittings

I will be replacing all those ping pong ball domes. The idea is to give her the "under construction" look. Going to be using a lot of Aves for touch up work later unsure.gif

I will also be needing to build a construction ramp for this ... currently no idea how to do this yet and I'll worry abt that later. Want to at least finish up this baby first.

Hi guys

Some updates .. actually not much done yet. I've been trying to visualize how the Falke would look in its construction frame and like I mentioned earlier, its really tedious cutting off all those sections. Keep reminding myself to be careful as I still need some of the original areas for support and also to help hold parts up later.

Not quite done with the cutting yet but here's what I've completed so far

Noticed on the right under side I've cut a little too close to the edge causing a gap to be exposed? Gonna need to fill that part later

And this is how she would look like assembled (minus the detailed engines at the moment)

There will be more exposed areas later for the left profile. Haven't quite decided where to cut

Going to work on the back portion later. I'm studying the instruction sheet to see what goes where at the moment, want to make sure I don't take off areas I need later.

Will post more when I have em. Thanks for watching

Very nice. But you also have to make the Falke look as if its a very light aircraft. The thick plastic makes it look as it its built from cast metal instead of sheel metal.

Does this mean you will also 'reveal' the craft's structural frames?

I am guessing the Anti Gravity engines makes the Falke light enough to hover (3 ping pong engines in kind of overkill for vehicle this size).

As for the structural frame ... well, I want to give this a try. When I come to it, may work out something and see how it looks. It has to compliment the engine and equiptment components though, that's going to be tough to do

Hopefully I can all the cutting done by this weekend so I can start cleaning the holes and begin the frame construction.

Phew - some updates. Got more holes done despite my slow progress, guess I'm abt 85% complete where I want holes made on the Upper fuselage. Still has both starboard and port end to cut, and I've decided to drill out the lower fuselage exhaust ports (located after the front Anti Gravity Engines). But that'll be later

I still need to clean up the sawed off areas to get the smooth texture, as well as sandpaper off all those markings I made. With some putty, Aves and minor repairs to some of the frames, the fuselages should be ready to accept the frames.

More updates when I get to them. Can't wait to start work on the frame construction. Thanks for looking

cool.gif Yessss ... 95% done with the upper fuselage. Most of the main holes are already cut and cleaned, just some minor ones for detailing later, and smoothing out the surface before priming.

So I've decided to try her out first with some of my proposed engines placed inside to see how she'll look

I was hoping to get a lot done today but realised ... making the frames is really hard work!!!! 6 hours of work just got me through abt 50% of the port side's frames

Well, ok, not 6 hours completely. I took an hour off to try an experiment with Oyumaru. I needed to duplicate those engine thingies as I want to reconstruct that section later ... so just add some hot water

user posted image

Not bad, it actually captured the mold very well. I used Aves but was a little impatient removing the mold before Aves set, so its a little out of shape due to my handling. Going to try this again later on
