Hi All,

I've taken up the challenge to create a scene reminiscent of too many cooks to cook one pot of soup.

Landy was kind to provide the 1/24 Land Cruiser kit plus references and I've been looking at how to modify it with a new cab with a closed back and to create a long wheel based version.

I have a couple of ideas and will start soon. Meanwhile the figures will be scavanged from Pakcik Bud when time permits. Anyone got spare 1/24 figs. I know Landy's also looking for some.

Need your help here... is it 5 or 10 guys looking at one guy actually working? JKR basically do public works like digging up pipe works or is it the water works department that does this? They all seem to have a large crew for the minial of jobs. laugh.gif

Pictures of the kit and references will be posted once I put it in photobucket.

Cheers,
Richard

Based on my observation, pipeworks are done by Jabatan Bekalan Air. JKR repair potholes, dividers, etc.

5 to 7 is suffice but not 10 - too crowded unless if you want to put them at gerai cendol smile.gif.

Gerai Cendol!!! Ha! so that's where the other 3 have gone.

Maybe should add some packet drinks and some eating ice-cream potong... terrible and the poor guy works alone.

Ok, perhaps this one guy is shoveling sand into the pothole... nah! more dramatic if he's digging a deep hole for no reason. This always happens when a new road is nicely laid and then this crew comes along and digs it up. laugh.gif

Cheers,
Richard

Dey, Anehs...how did you know I was going to finish this in 2017. laugh.gif

Just when I was going to start...big job ahead. Can't even take holiday.

But I've figured out how to do the back of the cab. Gonna use some plastic pill containers with the right curvature.

Cheers,
Richard

Ok,

Through the weekend I got the pictures up. This is the challenge...

user posted image

Nice kit and big so I thought it would be easy until I got the pictures from Landy...

user posted image

Now, he said to cover certain details with a tarpaulin and work with a short wheel base version... I got other ideas. biggrin.gif

The overall body and chasis come in two separate pieces.

user posted image

Lucky for me the dash comes in two options for left and right hand driven vehicles. So no scratch building headache here.

user posted image

I tembak and agak the measurements and proceded with the dissection by separating the cab and chassis sections.

There is more later.

Cheers,
Richard

Dont forget the TV in the back LOL

BTW, which cawangan of JKR is your team going to be from? Must be out of KL...famous names like Temerloh, Kuala Muda, Kuala Pilah, Jelebu, Gerik & Jeli (East West Hway).....they got lots of websites

Thanks Lar dey for the info's,

Might stick with Kuala Muda, Kedah as per pics. Don't know about the TV man, might find something more suitable like an old sofa or rattan chair...creature comforts for riding in the back.

The cab area I got experience from the Landrover build lar but the back flatbed and extension a bit leceh lar.

user posted image

See lar the sides were not as wide as the cab so I sliced of both inner sides of the platform. Also to ease the build, both the cab and flatbed was modified so I can work on them separately and then joined later.

user posted image

The flatbed was extended in two areas. Will add the missing surface ribs later.

user posted image

I cut the cab roof after using the kit as the template and agak the curve back.

user posted image

Lot's of strengthening was added to the bottom. All very rudimentary fitting for now to get the measurements right. Details and sanding much later.

Cheers,
Richard

Made some headway with some free time after I sent my car to the workshop and before a wedding yesterday.

Added detail to the flatbed...also made some minor corrections as well.

user posted image

Starting with the lips on the sides.

user posted image

I also added an extra layer for the sides to create the uneven step towards the lip

user posted image

The missing grille for the decking I used thin strips of pla sheet roughly the same thickness as the original grilles.

user posted image

Used the original part for the back bumper and lights together with the ladder.

user posted image

All the easy straight cut parts have been completed for the flatbed. Now to proceed to add filler and sanding.

user posted image

After all this I am going to attack the cab with the difficult curved back.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi again,

The cab back basically will give the kit the distinct look of the JKR version of the Toyota. To do this I had to scrounge a material that would help give this curve without moulding or bending Pla sheet.

user posted image

Right in front of me were these plastic viles I got from Multi-Filla that held the steel ball bearings I use as ballast. They were about the right curvature and size.

user posted image

I cut them into four sections...two for the bottom half and the others for the top because there is a distinct kink inwards at the window height. I intend to do this by setting the top curves slightly inward about 1-2mm.

user posted image

Before that I glued the cab frame to the chassis and added a centre bulkhead to the front under the dash board to cover the hole visible from the window.

user posted image

You can see right through to the front grill from this angle but not from the side windows and cab back.

user posted image

The curved sides are in place and thick card was used for the back shored up with angled braces.

user posted image

The seats were temporary just to see the clearance. Later to cover the braces, I'll add some stowage. The top half curves will be glued after this. Everything is roughly glued in place and will receive putty and sanding later.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,
Richard
