Hi Guys,

Thought I'd build Flight Lieutenant Cyril Lionel Francis Talalla DFC and Bar RAFVR's RAF P-51 Mustang for the BOB GB since all types of British & German flown aircraft are eligible.

Got some pics as I've started with the Monogram kit...an oldie moldy but good kit. It's got the Malcom hood, only needs the markings.

Any body got extra letter markings in 1/48?

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Richard

i think from an earlier post from enghui says that the mustang is not eligible leh. Anything beyond the original BoB timeline is not eligible ,eg mustang, thunderbolts

Hi See Liang,

Strictly British or German made BOB Era ah?

Which means FW's, Ju's with BMW engines also not eligible since they're after BOB. No worries I've got a Spit and Typhoon ready for it.

I think non of the heavy bombers are eligible either since bombing of Germany happened after BOB.

Non of the BF's after the E's are eligible either. I think not much to go on unless you're willing to build the real mens kinda kits like Airfix, Matchbox or Revell as the other manufactures concentrate on much later models post BOB.

Is there a list that I've missed?

Cheers,
Richard

Richard,

This is what EH posted in the kick-off posting:

BoB Group Build

In short, any variant of an aircraft type that saw action during BoB will qualify.

Aisay,

No problem, I'll post my WIP build in another forum which is basically for P-51's only(though I'm not a fan of P-51's). Thought it might go well for MGB later.

I have the Spit that'll work. It's a 1/48 Airfix kit. Real, real men build kit... that'll be stock standard, I hope.

Cheers,
Richard

Ya Rocco, I had the same question, so asked Ah Hui if my build qualified.

Since all variants of BoB aircraft are allowed, then 1/2 my build can enter. The FW is excluded and will be for diplay only laugh.gif

Aneh - u mean ME 109 or FW 190 ? FW 109 sounds interesting tongue.gif

FW 109 was a Me 109 with a BMW radial engine? huh.gif

I think the Mistel is OK, because the primary base model is the Ju-88, and not the FW.

But I will defer to the Kapitan's judgement call.

No problem,

I was looking at my stash and found that I have Aneh Landy's favorite Heinkel(or curut, XP!@#$% Thunderbirds shaped) 111 Monogram kit in 1/48 scale. Looks a fun build but may take too long.

I'll settle for the Spit I have since it posses the same amount of parts as the Mustang and also the same colour scheme. Kill two birds with one stone.

I'll start another thread for it.

The FW109 would have been interesting wacko.gif !!?!

Richard

Hi Guys,

To build Cyrils Mustang I had to stop work on the JKR project. I did this during the weekend and got off to a good start. All I needed was the markings to round things off.

Well it starts with a Monogram kit. The kit was hiding away in my stash for ages and had to be dusted off...

user posted image

The instructions were simple and it looked easy to put together with so few parts. Sorry to say I won't be using the decals but will be using the Malcom Hood that comes with the kit.

user posted image

First pass with interior green...

user posted image

I wasn't surprised at the parts being well molded for it's age, Monogram being the Rolls Royce of kits during that period.

user posted image

I couldn't take the raised panel lines and proceeded with scribing...

user posted image

Also cut out the flaps and added the inner edge to be faired over to fit into the wing.

user posted image

Prepared most of the rest of the parts and pasted the instrument decal onto a piece of sheet plastic. Later to be cut into shape and glued under the dashboard.

user posted image

Roughly the cockpit is coming together. Will pick out the panels with black and give it a wash.

user posted image

Just a close up of the flap root detail after sanding.
I accomplished this all in just two sittings in the weekend. Hope I am as successful in the coming days.

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Guys,

I managed to creap in more build time to produce the following...

user posted image

The kit although good had some shortcomings like the back airscoop vent was solid so I sawed it open.

user posted image

Now because it's open I made a wall so you won't see right through to the cockpit and visa versa.

user posted image

The office is quite detailed ala Monogram and enhanced with a dark brown wash.

user posted image

The otherside of the office...haven't picked out the box panels in black yet.

user posted image

All the components with grimy wash and buffed clean... I shaved off the molded seat belts and will tackle the scratch belts next with masking tape and fuse wire.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Guys,

Guess what...I got even more time in between visiting the dentist as I took leave for the appointment.

This is what I achieved...

user posted image

...my seat belts. Later I painted them and highlighted with a dark wash and silver for the metal buckles.

user posted image

They're on the seat now and both the fuselage halves have been stuck waiting to be filled and sanded down as you can see the seams are quite garish.

user posted image

Not quite clear but I've picked out the knobs and switches in red. I've also got both wings on including the tail having set the dehydral.

That's all for now as the camera ran out of juice.

Cheers,
Richard
