Here is my 1st entry of this GB, Micro Mir 1/350 Alfa Class Submarine. For more info on this submarines, please do some googling. For me, I just love the look of it! so sexy with streamlined hull shape.

The kit was from some little known company called Micro Mir from Ukraine/Russia? It's supposedly to be more accurate in outlines and shape compared to Dragon 1/350 offering plus only got less than 25 parts, good for a 1st timer sub builder like me.

And that was the end of convienience. Being a typical russian, this kit suffered from flashes, thick & hard plastics plus no locating pin at all. This should be fun laugh.gif

Do wish me luck!

The good thing about Russian subject made by Russian company is that it will most probably be very accurate but the bad thing will be as what Tuan MP mentioned, lots of flashes, thick plastic and lack of locating pins.

Between new wife, ramadhan & endless meeting, I manage to spend a little time with this kit.

Trust me,It's not a 2 days snap-tite kit and eat a lot more putty than I use for 1/72 Italeri MiG-29 build.BTW, I just finished doing a pre shading works.

Masterqq,it doesn't include all the teropong and antennas which IMHO the most disappointing aspect on the otherwise accurate kit.

Any tips on weathering submarine guys?

Re. weathering my 2 sen is that preshade just for the bottom red. These boats would have been well maintained, not like WW2 U-boat. Just pick out all the details and markings neatly, then some colour modulation on the black. Then some umber/sienna wash on the vents/holes wilth mild streaking.

THIS is a very good build and great painting/detail

These boats were titanium. No rust streaks.

Musang,

Just use lots of dark blue and dark grey streaking lines weathering over flat black. then, supplement the " so call lines" with very light sea grey. Pelan2 kasi bikin ahhhh...

Guys, thank you for the advises, really appreciated it.

Landyshah, thanks too for the link! It's was an awesome build indeed and definitively will be my reference for this build.

But, what did you mean by color modulation eh?

Bro Musang - try breaking up the pure black with lighter/darker shades sprayed on thin to give shadow/higlight and a patchy look (not too much in this small scale). Just so that it doesnt look like a black tube laugh.gif

Bro Squealus is right about this boat being titanium, I suggested mild streaking of water marks - there should be no rust. I feel that build in the link got a superb scale effect
