Hi all,
I just started this hobby and going to build my first ever model. I have chosen one of the old Academy planes - IDF Mirage IIIC 1/48. Sadly, I did not find the colour guide in the box. Anyone can help?? |

If you are going to paint the three tone camouflage with the IDF triangle, the Gunze colors are :
1) H310 Brown - FS30219 2) H312 Green - FS34227 3) H313 Yellow - FS33531 4) H314 Blue - FS35622 FS refers to Federal Standard paint common in USAF colors. Best of luck. |

If I remember correctly, the decal that comes in the Academy box is for an early IDF Mirage. It should be natural metal, something like this. The Israelis really kept their Mirages highly polished. You could paint the aircraft silver with Gunze H8 Silver or Tamiya's Chrome silver... or any other silver you might have.
The cockpit should be all black. The landing gear bays and landing gears should be silver. |

Academy decals from that era is quite crappy though. In the end, you might have a 'bogel' aircraft because the decals may flake off

Artistically weathering effect. Hhaha. Anyway, fhguy79, welcome to the club. We all had our own first model. Turn our crappy after we look at it 5 years later, but still our most beloved. Don't get frustrated when things didn't end up like all those Sifu's build in this forum. Enjoy the process. Don't do things the other way round, it'll turn out just nice! CHeers |

flylice80, thanks for the encouragement! It's sure not easy but I have done some research to minimize the 'casualties'. FYI, I've screwed up a model before, a USS Indianapolis from Tamiya. So, this time, I am taking a plane which is much simpler to start.
shan, thanks for the link!!!!! sllim, thanks for the discouragement...... :~ |

Hahha.... no worries bro. The model you are working on is not expensive. Like those magazines always say... practice practice practice. But I never buy those ideas. I started when I was very young..... primary school. First one I assembled with UHU glue..... if you tap the wing with your finger, the missile can fall down. Later I got a small Harrier model, then I realise from the instruction sheet that I should paint it. I used poster color...... of course it didn't work. Then 1 day my dad bought me a 1/72 shuttle model from the US (it's a large model). The box come with a few paints.... then only I realise there's a specific paint for it. Then I found out that Jaya super market got sell the paint. That time even was like RM 3 per bottle, I still think it's more expensive then the model. But ..... Those are the models I really enjoyed though.... I still remember them... after more than 20 years. My mom threw all away ady. On the spectrum, there are some models I assembled half way couple of years ago, keep it in a nice box and totally forgotten about it. Just take good care of the clear parts, use cement for the model, go to ICW to ask the Sifu there for paints and rent their spraybrush, I don't see anything can go seriously wrong. ( those days my Sifu was Lawrance in Section 14 MH.... Then 1 Utama's branch don't layan me, just lansi me only) While HHQ offers good range of products for our itchy hands, ICW offers alot of accessories and services. You can paint your model there using spraybrush there and a booth for you to take photo of your model. Check it out. |
