kap - March 24, 2006 04:01 AM (GMT)
So toyota's site is saying April 9th. Wonder which it is...and what time it will be televised. Once we figure it out, I'll add it to the calendar.

parcedia - March 24, 2006 04:08 AM (GMT)
Well I would imagine that the Toyota site would be a little more accurate considering it's their race... but who knows.
Maybe the April 8th date is for a "pre-game" kind of thingy?
BOdacious Mama - March 29, 2006 05:02 PM (GMT)
Just curious, am I the only one going to this thing  If anyone else is planning on going, I'd love to meet up with you. I've got tickets for Friday, they are doing the qualifying race then and I have tickets for Saturday when they do the actual race. I wanted to wear my SMFF shirt that I ordered but they messed it up and so I sent it back and they said they aren't offering it anymore :( Oh well, I have my BB.com shirt I'll wear and I"m gonna get another one for the other day :D Gotta represent right ;)

The link you have is for 2005, and not 2006. brick_wall That might explain
the date difference.

I've been doing a little sleuthing to try and find ANY info about the possibility of this race being televised. I need to plan my weekend! LOL
From what I can see from
this page there is another race in Long Beach on Sunday in the streets. My local listings has this listed as being televised but not the race Bo is in. cryingsmiley
Do anybody else have anymore info?

OK, I'm getting it Live here on NBC. Sunday at 3:00 pm Central time. Check your local NBC listings. Is this NOT the one? It says Champ Car Grand Prix racing from Long Beach.

And yes, there is a Speed channel.. and a Speed on Demand channel too! My husband likes to watch it.. spent half of last weekend tuned into the big classic car auction.. they had some real beauties for sale... Love those old muscle cars!

Patty can I first say I love Murphy's new look! thumbsup Thanks for the times. I can't believe it's on the speed channel. Hubby has it at the restaurant but we are supposed to be having a hail storm at that time tommorrow. grrrr Looks like I'm gonna miss it unless some miracle occurs and they put it on a regular cable channel. At least I can go to the restaurant on Wednesday and watch it!

Okay…I’m at work and trying to type a quick recap. Let’s see how well I do.
My husband and I arrived around 8:30 AM and, after finding the right parking area for our permit and walking around for a bit, we found the celebrity car area. Almost immediately, we saw Bo’s car not too far from where we were standing (bear in mind that we were behind a fence, though). Not long after we got there, the drivers came out and spent time near their cars. Bo looked great in his racing uniform. His hair was in a ponytail that also had additional hair bands part way down so he actually had 3 bands in his hair. He did wave to us, but, as usual, my husband wasn’t able to get a good picture. This is usually my luck with cameras, though. Then the drivers disappeared for awhile….probably for interviews. During this time, Patty (Bodacious Mama) called me on my cell phone to tell me they were running late. My husband and I continued to hang out at the fence until Bo came back and actually got into his car to leave for the practice round. Then we scurried up to an area where we could see the cars hit a turn and stood there. At first, it was pretty tame because the pace car kept them going at a fairly safe speed. Later on, the pace car disappeared and then the fun began. I was so nervous each time Bo would come around….praying that he wouldn’t crash. It was exciting, though….I bet he was having a ball. At the end of the last lap, he put his arm out of the window and waved.
After the practice round finished, Patty and her husband joined us. We had lunch and walked around for a bit. When it got closer to the celebrity qualifying race, we headed back over to the area where the cars were. This time we stood over in a different area because Bo’s car was in a different place. We saw him come out and do interviews and pose for pictures. After a while, he headed over to the fence to talk and sign autographs. Patty and I warned him to stay away from Antonio Sabato, Jr. and William Shatner because both of them had messed up their cars pretty bad. He laughed and told us he was just trying to keep it inbetween the ditches. I asked him if he was having fun and he said he was having a blast. He really did look happy and healthy. When he finally got into his car and put on his helmet and gloves, we headed back to get a spot to see the qualifying race. It was exciting and nerve wracking. Some of the cars were really screeching going around the corner. William Shatner managed to blow out his engine. Bo did pretty well….not screeching his tires on the turn too much. I tell you…I held my breath each time he came around. I’m sure people were getting a kick out of the comments made by Patty and I each time he came by. It got pretty hairy between some of the cars, but Bo managed to stay kinda on his own during this race. I’m sure he didn’t get the best time, but we didn’t care because he managed to get out of his car in one piece. We walked back to the car area afterwards and watched him talking to people in the compound. He had taken off his racing uniform and was wearing jeans and some sort of racing jacket that may have been brown. He still had on his hat. When he finally left the area, we left so I could get to work on time. So there you have it. He looks great and is having a great time. I can’t wait to see tomorrow’s race. I hope he does well and keeps safe.
I'll try to post pictures tonight after I get home form work. Knowing Photobucket, it may take time.
Jeannine

Jeannine, thanks for that recap. It sounds like you had an exciting day. So glad to hear that Bo looked healthy. I've been a little concerned about him racing if he's not 100%. Sounds like it went very well. Can't wait to see the pics!

Those times are interesting. I guess they got that time on Shatner before he blew his engine up. Interesting that they have Bo as #10 because that is the number that was on his car.

Thanks so much Jeannine for the wonderful recap. I've been dying to know how he made out. It's just as well I'm not there though, I'd not only be holding my breath, but probably closing my eyes everytime he came around! Sounds like he's having the time of his life and on *cloud9* . Stay safe Bo. *pray*

wow, Bucky Lasek qualified first? never bet against an extreme sports champ. They have no fear. AND they are NUTS.
Bo, HAVE SOME BIG FUN!

My dh and I were looking at the results online. It is a coincidence, but Bo ended up in 10th and his car is #10.
Getting ready to leave for Long Beach. I'll let you all know how it turns out and I promise to post pictures. I was just too tired last night to get it done. I'm hoping to get more today. My fingers are crossed that he gets through this in one piece. You are right that some of these drivers know no fear and there were a few times yesterday when we held our breath as people hit the turn. In Frankie Muniz's case, I think he actually did hit the wall. There were some near misses between cars as well. You should have seen William Shatner's car and Antonio Sabato Jr.'s car after the practice run. There was a lot of wild driving out there. Thank goodness those cars can only go so fast. Bo seemed to have good control of his car on the turn we were viewing. He was driving pretty smooth. I think he is trying to be careful. That may not win the race for him, but it should keep him safe.

Todd Bodine... hmmm he had to be a happy clam.. he has not qual'd first in a car in a long time.. If he hadn't then it was a good thing he is no longer in Cup cars.. LOL...
BO 10th.. hmmm... got to think on this one... Hoping he can move up to the front after a few laps around the track and gettin the feel... I never looked at qual as any big thing.. More can be done if you got the right set up in the car during the race..
Now... Anyone that has Directv.. Speed is also there.. One of the main reasons I got Directv 5 years ago.. it carried NASCAR all the time...
GO BO.. Drive the wheels off that Toyota... and to think they are letting the Toys into NASCAR in 07... Egads...

That's all I really care about. Glad that Bo had fun, but it must have been nerve-wracking watching. I think he did well...wasn't last, so he beat somebody! But most important of all, stayed safe.
Thanks, Jeannine, made my heart pound a little, just imagining the real race.
