twnk - May 29, 2006 04:10 PM (GMT)
I just want to make it easy for those who will be posting recaps. Here is a nice post-concert thread all ready for you ;)

 Not that I'm anxious or anything but it sounded awesome on the *cellcert_time*

CindyT - May 29, 2006 09:49 PM (GMT)
Thanks Laura for getting this ready. I can barely see straight right now so it really helps.

Hubby, son, and I arrived in Montgomery Saturday afternoon, checked into the hotel, got a map from the front desk, and headed over to Cityfest. It was in old downtown Montgomery, 3 stages in all. We got something to eat (funnel cakes are not all they're cracked up to be) and headed for the stage where Foghat and Steppenwolf would be performing. Foghat came on first. The lead singer is not an original, he was once lead singer for Humble Pie so the overall sound was different than what I remember. I enjoyed Steppenwolf much more...John Kay is the original singer...deep rich baritone voice. I didn't realize there were so many Steppenwolf songs I had never heard before. Of course they saved Magic Carpet Ride and Born To Be Wild til last and that was pretty awesome.

Oh wait, you want to hear about BB&SM right?

Well, Sunday we arrived at Cityfest a little after 2:30. The gates didn't open til 4:00, so we waited in line for a while. There were only about 10 people ahead of us in this line, but there were 2 other entrances. Almost as soon as we got there, we were treated to the soundcheck. The stage was very close by, and although we couldn't see them, we could hear them just fine. They went through VOA, Feelin Alright, and RM. I could tell Bo's voice was sounding exceptional and we were in for a real treat that night.

As soon as they scanned our ticket and we got in the gates we made a bee line (running with chairs in hand) around the corner and up the side street to the stage. Front row was already taken for a good portion of the stage so I got second row on Heath's side. This was good though because it was a high stage and if I were any closer, I wouldn't be able to see Shane and Tommy.

OK, it was HOT. And I don't mean the show (although that was too) because I haven't gotten that far yet. I have no idea what the temperature was but it had to have been at least 90, very humid, and lots of sunshine. We put down our chairs and I spent a lot of the afternoon under a tree (the only one anywhere around) with Micki, Kelli, and Kim fanning ourselves and drinking gallons of water. At one point it looked like we may get a welcome brief shower, but that passed over and we were treated to a beautiful rainBO behind the stage that lasted for a while.

We sat through one band called White Bread. They were so-so. You know when you are waiting for BB&SM to come on, all the bands seem meh. That's just the way it is. Then there was a Montgomery Idol competition. I guess there were 4 or 5 contestants and they were all really good.

All the while, more and more people were arriving and setting up chairs in the street. I wondered why they didn't put BB&SM at the big amphitheater-like stage at the end by the river. It was very roomy, lots of grassy area on a hill looking down at the stage. Did they not think the guys would draw a crowd in Alabama? DUH!

At one point, Heath and his wife and baby came out. His wife is so pretty and so friendly and the baby is just adorable. What a nice and beautiful family they are. Kris also came out and chatted a bit. My son finally got to personally meet Kris and shook his hand. I said, "Remember Michael, someday you will be able to say you shook Kris Bell's hand."

Ok it's showtime finally. The crowd is going wild and stretches as far back down that street as the eye can see. People of all ages, I particularly noticed there were lots of men at this one.

Bo had on a black long sleeve shirt and the jeans with the really big hole in the right knee. Heath had on a short sleeve black polo. Coop was in an orange t-shirt. Kris had on that shirt that looked like it matched the blue background in NO. Oh I forgot, when talking to Kris he said something about they sometimes wear each others clothes. I said yeah...we noticed that! I think Tommy had on a while long sleeve shirt, and Shane...sorry Shane but it's so hard to see you.

Bo was the most animated I have ever seen him. He is really healthy and really strong these days. His voice was the best I have ever heard. He hit ALL the high notes and didn't shy away from any. He was very active, especially during Pink Houses. He kept jumping up and spreading his legs apart in the air while holding the guitar...he did this a LOT. Lots of spinning around and hair action. He was also barefoot. Sometimes he would come right to the edge of the stage and curl his toes over the edge for balance. Yes, someone has pics of this. At one point, can't remember which song, he went over to the metal support ladder thingy on Heath's side and climbed up on the first step holding the guitar. I thought...oh no Bo, please don't climb all the way up...get down before you hurt yourself...you're scaring me! But he stayed on the first rung, one foot on the step sorta hanging off...whew! There was no hand touching, the stage was high and there was a barricade and a gap of 2 or 3 feet. But there were lots of waves and winks and overall a lot of interaction with the crowd.

It was a wonderful show. For Bo to perform the way he did in that heat, he is in fine top-notch form. The police were chasing everyone away right after, so no hanging out and waiting for the guys. I know some, if not all, the wives were there and lots of family so I'm glad they got to spend some time with them instead.

HOB Cleveland was awesome...Southaven Springfest was better...Baton Rouge was the best I thought it could possibly be. This has topped all of them. They just get better and better with every show.

Oh Cindy, thanks for a great recap. You could even tell on the cell cert that this one was special. Glad you guys got to be a part of it.

reen - May 29, 2006 11:49 PM (GMT)
It is so good to hear how Bo is so active on the stage. A sure sign of good health. Thanks for your recap cindy. Sounds like you got to see something really special.

pilatesgirl - May 29, 2006 11:55 PM (GMT)
Just walked in the door and I am so tired and worn out. Almost like having a hangover without the drinking. The heat and humidity were horrible and boholic, flip4fins and I began to wonder if this was going to be worth it. Well, silly us when it was all said and done of course it was worth it.

This concert was the most awesome fabulous wonderful concert I have ever been to. Yes I know I sound like I am 12 but I can't help it. To tell you the truth I am having a really hard time putting into words how unbelievable Bo and S$ were last night. I have all these images in my head but I can't really remember when they happened if that makes any sense. So this is going to be really disjointed and odd but I will do my best.

Bo looked fantastic last night. The black shirt he was wearing was unbuttoned down to about the last 2 buttons of the shirt. The chest tattoo was completely visible the whole night. The buttons at times were almost bursting they were pulled so tight. The shirt was fantastic and fit him like a glove. Taking big gulp here and deep breaths... He came out wearing cowboy boots but sometime during the evening I don't know when, he took them off. I had my eye on that man the whole night and damn if I know when those suckers disappeared. So not only did we have sexy shirt Bo, we had barefoot Bo and his jeans had a huge whole in the Knee. <sigh>

I loved how he would come up to the edge of the stage and grip it with his toes. The two middle toes always seemed to grip a little tighter than the others, totally adorable. God, who would think I would ever have a thing for toes. I swear I hate toes but Bo's I love. He whirled and twirled and jumped on that stage more than I have ever seen. He climbed like a little monkey up the scaffolding on the side of the stage with guitar in tow. I couldn't believe it. Other memories are of him pulling out the harmonica for SIAS and the way his lips pursed when he got ready to play and the way his eyes just shone last night. I swear I will never say another bad word about the chin hair. He was so beautiful and the hair, oh my god the hair. It was like a cascading river of hair, shiny and wavy and thick and just beautiful. I don't know what he did to it to get it that way, probably not a damn thing but it was gorgeous.

There were tons of tummy shots all night too. Every time he lifted his arms which of course he did all night long. You could see the sweat running down his neck onto his chest. O.K. got to stop with this image.

He threw one of his empty water bottles out into the crowd and it was right to me, of course I grasped it with my fingertips and lost it. LOL, I was sad for a minute over not catching Bo's water bottle I really am 12 at heart.

Oh and another image from last night, Bo and Heath facing each other on the side of the stage and playing each others guitars. I mean playing like crazy. Each strumming the other guitar. My God that was so hot. Also, Bo walking over to Kris while he is singing and placing his hand on Kris' back and just leaving it there for a second almost like a caress. The whole night was just truly wonderful. I think I will stop for now and think about stuff and try to jot down more memories.

Oh, the article in the Montgomery Adviser, that was me and boholic he interviewed. Even got our names in the paper. LMAO He was a little off though on the number of concerts we said we have attended. We told him 7 or 8. We couldn't really remember off the top of our head but it isn't the 10 he stated in the article.

I can't stress enough how great all the guys were last night. Every single one of them. S$ was off the hook last night and shone in their own right.

Kelli

Thank you ladies! What wonderful recaps. I knew it had to be an awesome concert just from the sound of the cellcert!

CindyG - May 30, 2006 12:42 AM (GMT)
Kelli and OC (Other Cindy),

Thanks for doing the recaps so fast! Sounds awesome! I wanted to be there, but the stars didn't line up.

He certainly sounded in good voice on the cellcert. They played each other's guitars, that's too cool, I mean hot! :)

QUOTE (pilatesgirl @ May 29 2006, 07:55 PM)
God, who would think I would ever have a thing for toes. I swear I hate toes but Bo's I love.

Kelli, I love that. That says it all and I totally relate.

Cindy, glad to see you back in action.

You know, as awesome as every performance is, they always seem to step it up a notch when their wives and families are there. That's so sweet, kind of like, look this is what we do all those nights we're away from home. Very special.

pilatesgirl - May 30, 2006 01:24 AM (GMT)
LMAO Grace, I swear it is nice to know that there are "others" out there like me. I was explaining Bo's toes to hubby tonight and he was just shaking his head and laughing. He told me I am one sick puppy. Yep, and I love it.

Cindy T. it truly amazes me that you were able to be out in that heat yesterday and not break a sweat. I really enjoyed spending time with you and look forward to the next Bo event.

Selinda - May 30, 2006 01:58 AM (GMT)
Time for a long-winded recap, for a LONG weekend. Bear with me as I try to get events straight in my head. ;)

Saturday
I rode down to Montgomery with Debbie (BoSugar) and Lisa (BoLisa) on Saturday afternoon and we got to the hotel around 2pm. We hung out for a bit because the doors weren't opening until 4. So we met up with Tina, Jacquie (from bs.com), Reba, Kathy (kkat), Laura (BiceBabe) and Jackie Schroeder, grabbed all of our chairs and set up in about the third row in front of the stage where Foghat and Steppenwolf were playing that night. It was about 95 degrees outside and we were all stinky by about 5. :D Ate some Fair Food (the Foot Long Corn Dog was my favorite this weekend) and listened to the bands that went on before the headliners.

Eliot Morris http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=13727856
was playing when we first got there, and was pretty good. He did a lot of more James Blunt sounding stuff...pretty mellow stuff. Then a band called the Zac Brown Band http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendID=11141950 came out and was GREAT. Southern Rock, but really more on the country side. Their lyrics were mofo hilarious and Zac was incredible on the guitar. The fiddle player was really amazing. He was playing the violin guitar-style quite a bit and then when they hit "Devil Went Down To Georgia", all hell broke loose. They were really awesome and they're playing at City Stages this year, so I think I'll have to check them out again. Foghat was awesome....sounded incredible, got the crowd on their feet. There was a group of high school aged kids on one side of the stage ROCKIN'. Hands in the air, headbanging....loved seeing that. They played with a couple of the original members, but the guitarist used to play with Molly Hatchett. I ended up leaving after that to go back to the hotel; the heat of the day had gotten to me, and I just couldn't sit there anymore. I guess Steppenwolf was awesome too, but you'll have to hear about it from someone who was actually there. ;)

Sunday - M & G
Another 95 degree day, if not hotter....UGH. Went back to the hotel after wandering around Wal-Mart and sat around talking for a little while, then went down to the gates at about 2 to see we could hear the soundcheck. We heard most of it, but I had to leave before it was over to head over to another building with Jackie Schroeder, Tina and Jacquie for the M & G. We got inside and they had a bunch of tables set up with bumper stickers and t-shirts from the radio station. Then they came around and handed us all glossies for Bo to sign (we were only allowed one item). The caterers showed up and they had sandwiches and stuff for us. It was actually one of the better organized meet & greets that I've heard of. The DJ's were super nice. ;) We all must have thanked them about a million times. In all, there were probably about 50 people there. Then Bo showed up and grabbed the mic. He just sort of paced the floor and talked a little about what he's been doing then asked if anyone had any questions. There was a 12 y.o. girl there who had won a pass by cutting off her very long red hair...she ended up giving it to Bo. She was absolutely adorable. Tina asked him if he was happy, and he went on and on about how he's doing what he's always dreamed of doing. Another person asked if he was still playing with SugarMoney, someone else asked about Caroline and Aidan, and he went off again about how happy he is being married and having a child. Then like clockwork, Caroline called him and he had her on the phone during the M&G. All in all, he seemed extremely relaxed and the "wall" that he sometimes puts up when he's in front of fans came down just enough so that his humor and general good-nature could really come out. We all lined up and were told that we could not pose with Bo for a picture, but if anyone wanted to take pictures while we were getting our autographs, that was fine. So somewhere out there there's a picture of me with Bo, but I haven't seen it yet if it exists. :) I gave him my copy of "Pickin' on Bo Bice" and he busted out laughing when he realized what it was. Before we all lined up, the DJ had Bo draw one name out of the stack of winners to sit on the side of the stage during the show and of all people, he drew Jackie's name. She was absolutely FLOORED. She started crying and freaking out, and since she got to bring one person with her, we told her to take her daughter with her so she wouldn't have to choose between us. They interviewed her for the local news and she was just so happy. It was awesome to see...she so deserved it. My camera really sucks, but I'll post my pics of the weekend in the Pictures thread.

Sunday - Showtime
This is turning out really long....

Headed down to the venue after the M & G to meet up with everyone there and the place was already packed to the gills, and just got more crazy as the day went on. I got a phone call from Jackie asking me if I wanted to sit up on the stage with her during the show. I, OF COURSE, said yes. Guess her daughter didn't want to go. So we headed to the side door at around 8 and got up there. We couldn't sit on the front row because it was reserved for the Mayor and other patrons (not sure who), so that filled up pretty quickly with a few old men and a couple or two. The security guard was NOT nice up there and told me that I couldn't take flash pictures, but everyone around me was doing it! GRRRRRR. We were set up on Kris and Tommy's side of the stage, so I was able to hear them and Shane really well, but couldn't hear Bo all that well. It was pretty cool to see what goes on behind the scenes though. Tommy's monitor seemed to be giving problems through about the first 4 songs...Shelly kept having to come over and replace wires. But I have to say that the energy they were putting out there was INCREDIBLE. The crowd was insane....seeing the sea of people from the stage was absolutely amazing. Bo was jumping, spinning Bo and Kris was just awesome. It was pretty cool getting to see what Tommy does back there too since you can never see his hands when you're in the audience. He's GREAT on those keys. From what I've heard from everyone else it was one of the better shows they've put on. ;)

Man alive, sorry this was so LONG! GREAT weekend though...I'll certainly never forget it.

BoLisa - May 30, 2006 05:17 PM (GMT)
I don't know where to begin! I'll skip the Saturday night part, and start at the gate Sunday.

We went down to the gate Sunday afternoon and Bo and the guys were onstage right directly in front of us, about a block or so down. Debbie and I were joined by lots of others and we waved and screamed and danced as Bo and the guys played. Feelin' Alright was getting us moving, and then I think they did Remember Me. Then I heard Bo say, "Is that enough Richard?" and it must have been because they quit. It was so hot it was UNBELIEVABLE. We stood there an hour or so until it was time to go in. Kathy's daughter from bicesquad.com took off running and put down blankets for us at the very front. I ended up right on the front row, smack dab in the middle. It was awesome!

We all sat around and visited and tried to keep cool. Sara, Kim, Micki, Kelly, Connie, Mindy, Kathy, Reba, K-Kat, Jackie, Jackie 2, Tina, Laura and lots more folks were there, I'm sorry if I missed naming someone. A man with a video camera who was doing a story for the Jubilee asked if we would say something. He had us all tell our names and where we were from and then we all yelled, "BO AND SUGARMONEY ROCK!!" It is supposed to be on the Jubilee Fest website.

Later on someone said, "There's Kris" and he was standing back listening to the Montgomery Idols. Then Heath, Julissa and little Julian came out and we all made a beeline over there to see them. I had on a cowboy hat and Julian loved it! And he was such a little ham, he posed for the pictures. It was so cute! Julissa is just as sweet as Heath is. Before she left she made a point to speak to us again and tell us it was nice to meet us.

Then we went over and talked to Kris. Hot as ever, I might say. His hair was back in a pony fastened with four bands. I took a pic of it which I'll post pretty soon. I was so glad to see he and Heath, but I never did see Shane, Coop or Tommy. There were a jillion people there and I'm surprised Heath and Kris came out to tell you the truth.

We introduced a lot of people to the fact that we are online. When the concert started I pulled one girl named Chrissy up front by me and she lost her BO-ginity!! There was Jenn beside her that was also a BOgin, and it was so cool to watch them! A 74 year old lady named Mary was pulled to the front too because she meant she was going to see Bo and she had sat outside all day in the hot sun!! Everybody had made a huge fuss over her. I know Bo got a kick out of seeing her on the front row.

Bo was amazing. He had such a high energy level and he was genuinely happy...such a smile stayed on his face. It just made my heart happy to see him so happy! He slung that gorgeous hair around and flew from one end of the stage to the other, even climbing up a scaffold to wave at fans. He started out with these lizard looking shoes on, but kicked them off and I have lots of pics of those little toes! He made eye contact with so many, and I put my hand to my mouth and waved it at him, like sending a kiss, and he pointed and winked at me. Good lord, I even screamed out at one point, "You are SO beautiful". I just lost all reason, ya'll. He is beautiful. No way around the fact! I think he was the best and hottest I have ever seen him. HOB was HOTTTTT, but this was unbelievable.

Kris, oh Kris. He gets into the hair slinging too! He was awesome as usual. Sexy, like a panther. Heath was on fire, really into it. Coop was great, and Shane was drumming his heart out. Tommy is fabulous on the keyboard and his vocals are to die for. So are Heath's. They sound SO good backing Bo!

Bo's tattoo was showing beautifully. He's such a rock god! I'm blathering on, not really saying anything that you all don't know, but I am still in awe of the experience. I nearly got sick from the heat, but it was worth every minute. I cannot wait to see Bo again.

They sang SweetBird, and then left. They played an hour and a half and were pressed for time, so they just went ahead and did the encore and then left.

All of us got into our cars and headed out to the IHOP and had a meal. Pastor Donny and Mindy and some of the church members met us there and we had such a delightful time! That is such a loving congregation. Wish I didn't live too far away to attend.

I'll wrap it up now. I'm so tired and probably have left out some good details. But I just had to come and share what all went on!

Oh one thing I almost forgot. Just a tidbit, just one of those special moments.

There were train tracks nearby and every now and then you could hear a train go by. It happened during during BB&SM, inbetween songs, and Bo commented on how it made him feel like he was back in Helena. Too cute. Lots of applause for this too.

Thanks for the great recaps. I live in VA now but I'm from Mobile so I can really feel memories of that Alabama heat that everyone was describing. I wish I could have been there. The energy level sounds fantastic.
