Title: 10/1 Dallas, TX

PMC - October 1, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
No, I'm not there. But yes, I just received a report that Bo just participated in THE CORN DOG EATING CONTEST  It seems he may not REALLY have eaten the corn dogs off the 40-odd sticks held up at the end of it, there MAY have been a little corn dog magic performed there  .
And did he really eat a corn dog with a FORK AND KNIFE?
And what DID his wife say to him when she called in the middle of it all? THAT I would have loved to hear :D
Sounds like the boys are having themselves a little fun today. :)

NYnancy - October 1, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)

Aww you guys - I'm TOTALLY KIDDING! :D I know how hard it is to come home from a show, be hit with "real life" and try to get everythign up to share as fast as you possibly can without...oh, say having to work, feed your kids, talk to your spouse. LOL

I'm just trying to convey how VERY VERY VERY (did I say VERY yet?) excited I am to see the video from the show. B)

sorry girls, I just got home from school after flying in this morning. I will post what I can and I will add to this recap later.

The state fair was awesome - I'm originally from Texas so it did my heart good to go around and see some stuff. It was kind of hard to push Sharon in a wheelchair while holding my beer but I managed. Sharon is okay, by the way, she just hurt her knee and needed it immobilized.

Like Bill said, it was hot. It was in a paved parking lot thing and the heat just bounced off the pavement. Before the concert, Kris brought his sister and her family on stage and introduced them to the crowd. They got a big reception and the kids looked like they made up their minds right then to become rock stars. Julissa was there with Heath, beautiful as always, and he had family and friends in the crowd.

I have always loved Whiskey Women and Time but it has taken on a life of it's own now. It could be their calling card.

I'll add more later and post photos. Sorry for the sucky recap, I need sleep.

What an awesome time we had!! As mentioned, I spent much of the day in a wheelchair, but there's precious little that would keep me from a BBS$ concert!! This was me DURING the concert-- crutches_smiley Have you ever tried to dance on crutches? Not a pretty sight, but I had a ball!!

It was SO hot. That black pavement just radiated what the sun was pouring down on us. I was fortunate to be able to be in the shade much of the waiting time. Thank you to EVERYONE that took such good care of me. I hate being so dependant, but maybe that was a good lesson for me.

A few of us had M&G. When it was time, we lined up to go backstage to where Bo was. M&G are a little surreal to me. It just seems weird to line up to see Bo--like seeing the King in his Royal chambers. I don't mean anything derogatory about that, but it's just a strange experience. But, have no fear, that will NOT stop me from more chances to speak briefly with Bo. While waiting backstage in line, Kris spotted me in the wheelchair. Being the sweetheart that he is, he came over to me, looking all concerned. Bill, smart aleck that he is, told Kris that I hurt myself stage-diving for one of his picks, but "you should see the other ladies!" Kris got a kick out of that!

I hobbled over to Bo on my crutches when it was my turn. He was duly concerned and wondered why I didn't stay in the wheelchair. He was so sweet, said some very kind words, autographed my Bo Bice calendar--on Oct. 2, 2007--Happy Birthday, Bo Bice. (Thanks, Bo!!) Then he instructed the staff to be sure I was 'wheeled' out instead of on crutches. Just a little glimpse of Bo's personality--he's always concerned for others, even when he's been so sick. He gives so much. I appreciate the fact that he even takes the time to do this!! He's so generous.

Of course, Pam came up to Bo behind me and informed him that I had hurt myself stage-diving for Kris' pick. :D I'm sure Bo must think I'm a looney-tune!! (Well, he's right!)

The concert started ~ 5:30, as planned. They came out, Coop doing his cheerleading routine, getting the crowd pumped up. Bo didn't do his usual bounding onto stage--he just quietly walked out, plugged in his guitar, and started into the song. But, no worries, I don't think this had to do anything with how he was feeling, it was just HOT and DAYTIME.

You know the set list, so I won't go into that, but the concert was great. Lonely Boy Blues, Ain't Got Money, Country, Whipping Post (duh!) and Sweetbird were my top favorites. Man!! They kicked some BOOTY on those songs. I LOVE the Country song and the band guys say it's really fun to play. I hope this one gets recorded on some CD, some time. It ROCKS!!

The crowd wasn't especially enthusiastic. I really do think it was due to the extreme heat. It just saps the energy. Of course, those of us from all of the forums MORE than made up for it. We were singing along, dancing, waving our arms in the air, hugging, screaming. You know. The usual!! doin_the_wave A few nutty fans had on those fake nose, mustache glasses at the start of the concert. NOT saying WHO!! Kris got a good laugh from that.

Heath got lots of love and kudos from Bo and the home state crowd. I think he's a llittle shy from the added attention, but that's endearing. As always, he made that guitar of his smoke! I love his smile. I'm sure it was awesome for him to have Julie and other family there!

As mentioned, Kris brought out some of his family before the concert. He introduced each of them by name and we cheered and yelled for each of them. I'm sure they thought we were nuts, but it was obvious that they got a charge out of it too. Especially, his nephew. It was fun to watch him watching the concert offstage. He had a look of awe while watching Uncle Kris wail on Rebel!!

I can't say enough about Shane's solo. It just puts me away! thud I just become mesmerized during. I can't describe how it makes me feel. Wow! It seems to get better and better with each performance.

It was SO fun seeing so many familiar faces. Lecia, Shelia, Patty (with a Y), Laura, Kelli, Micki, the list goes on and on. I met new people that I'm SO happy to know and can't wait to see again.
We have formed quite an amazing community. It's just so fun, so enriching. Thank you to everyone, no matter how small the encounter, it contributes to an amazing experience as a whole.

CAMPFIRESKY - October 4, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
And then there was Dallas. The Texas State Fair is beautiful. I could have spent a couple of days there, taking in the sites. It almost has a Worlds Fair atmosphere. Again, the weather was very hot, and the stage was huge. In front was BLACKTOP... Try standing on that for 6 hours in 90 degree heat.
Surprisingly.. It was not the largest crowd in Dallas. But since the State Fair is open for almost 1 month, it is not surprising that the place was not mobbed on a very hot day.

So as you all probably already heard, Bo participated in a Corny Dog Eating contest. He and about a dozen other contestants all had on matching tee-shirts for the event. Obviously he could not really eat Corny Dogs, so he did the next best thing and hammed it up for the crowd. Very funny to see everyone madly dunking their corn dogs and munching out, while Bo on the end is slowly eating with a knife and fork, talking on the phone and reading a magazine. Taking his time to pat his mouth clean with a napkin. He then proceeded to pull the sticks out of the corn dogs in front of him and try to hide the uneaten dogs. When the contest was over, he had a bunch of "empty sticks" but of course they were on to him. I think he got credit for 11 "bites" but he played it up, extending his stomach, and patting it, as if he had eaten a whole plate full. Definitely was a good sign that Bo was feeling much better. After the contest, they were giving out the left over Corny Dogs, so I grabbed one. (not bad...)

Since the rule changes for Meet 'n Greets, I was on line for another one in Dallas, (having just seen Bo in Wichita Falls). I'm not much of a collector of autographs, so I really wasn't planning on having him sign anything. I figured a quick handshake and a howdy and I'd be on my way.... But then I got this idea for a joke.... I walked in and said, "Hey Bo, did ya miss me?" And he sort of chuckled. We exchanged a couple of words and then jokingly I asked, "Will you sign my Corny Dog Stick?" (This is a very thin stick mind you) Well he laughs, takes the stick and proceeds to sign it "How Corny , Bo Bice". His quick wit never ceases to amaze me.
Nice to see him so relaxed and happy. What a great spirit!!!

The concert was once again awesome. There was a small brain fart during SHA, and I'm sure the Easy Button was presented after the concert with all the 'reverence' the occasion deserved.
(These guys show no mercy)

All in all, 4 concerts in 5 days was hard work. I can only imagine what it must be like for the boys, week after week. It ain't all glory being Rock Stars.. That's for sure....

This 4 concert trip has only re-enforced what I already knew. This is the most genuine group of musicians you could ever hope to cheer for. They have a dynamic on stage that just can't be bought or faked. It's the real deal. Each of them "feels" the music and it is conveyed to the audience. They are all humble, and caring spirits that love music and appreciate every cheer, every gift and every handshake. They willingly give of their time, which is way above and beyond anything we would hope to expect. It sure makes it easy to root for and support these guys in anyway I can. I hope that they realize just how much of an impact that they have had on our lives and so many other lives already..... We have built quite a family over the past year. This journey is never going to be "just about the music".. It is so much more.

It saddens me to think that this was my last set of concerts for 2006, unless something unexpected comes up in the Northeast. With the tour winding down for 2006 and some much deserved time off coming up, I'm hoping they have a lot of quality time with friends and family. They deserve it.

One year ago, we were getting ready for Bayfest, and meeting Kris and Tommy, and for many, each other, for the first time. Hard to believe it's been only 1 year. I feel like I have know most of you my whole life.

So to Bo, Coop, Shane, Kris, Tommy and Heath.... Shelly, Bruce, Patrick, and crew, and to my SugarMoney Family....and to the many friends I have met from other boards,
THANK YOU SO MUCH for coming into my life. It has been a real blessing that I do not take for granted.

MUCH LOVE,
BILL

Grace, Sharon, Bill, Thanks so much for the wonderful recaps. It does help when your head is sore from banging it against a wall. It is coming up on the one-year anniversary of the Katrina concert ... the first time I saw Bo and S$ together. I've had so much fun this past year and met so many nice people with a common bond. It is amazing what they have created.

Okay...I just lost my recap, so I'm in a crappy mood.

Texas was wonderful. While I would have wished for cooler weather, I still loved everything. I loved meeting new fans. It was great.

I was at the corndog contest. I actually was interested in this and was going to help cheer for this one ladie's husband....until I saw the contestant at the end of the table. I tell you, it was all I could do to take pics because I was in stitches! I really didn't capture the entire humor Bo showed doing this in my pics....he was a riot.

The concert was wonderful. Because of the heat and because the concert was at 5:30 and not after dark, I think that the audience was a tougher one....less people than at Lucy Park and also very warm people. The guys did a great job. Thank you Number Two to Bo for Lonely Boy Blues.....I was in heaven.

They didn't leave the stage before the encore because of time constraints. As warm as it was, it was probably for the best to keep the audience there. I was so proud of the guys for their hard work. Thank you to all of you!!

I also attended the M&G. Yes it was weird to have to walk up to a table to talk to Bo...I usually just run into him. But I do have to say that I loved hearing "Hi Zoo". Bo works so very hard to be nice to his fans. I respect him for all he does.

Bill, I'm so happy he signed that corndog stick. He looked like he got a kick out of it. I love his sense of humor....just love it.

So, it was a great group of concerts. I have no voice left, but I feel great. I loved seeing everyone. It was the very best. Not sure if I can ever top it. That scares me.

You know, we always say that. And then something else at a later encounter comes along that is so special in its own unique way. And we are blessed all over again.
In the meantime... you have US to help you through the Sugar DT's

Everyone gave incredible reviews. Thanks so much for taking us there. One year ago I was getting ready for the Katrina benefit, where my journey began. I have met many wonderful people, some will be in my life forever. I am so grateful for this journey, and for all of you.
