He will have to be carefull for a long time Tess, Cause one good bump and that skin will peal back like an onion skin. Maby they will fit him with a burn wrap to go over it to keep it from scaring as I had to wear burn stockings for over a year .

Well, thank goodness, he is able to be up now, and aware of everything. I am sure it was all a big shock for him. Hopefully, from now on, things will be all uphill. He may have to wear some type of covering on it, and he should be aware, that he will have to protect that area from sun, even after he is completely healed, for a very long time, and possibly forever. Son in law's dad had a bad burn when he was younger, and he now has to wear a covering on it whenever he is outside and it is sunny, even if it is winter time.

Yeah he is still pretty weak on his feet and the food tastes awful to him lol. He always was fussy about his food as we have very little salt in what we eat.
I helped the nurse shower him and take all the burns dressings off and they are looking excellent. The bit where theyt took the skin off his thigh is very large and giving him more pain than the burns. I think the nurse was surprised that I was diving in to help. I said if this is the worst I ever have to do for him from now on, its easy. I will know about 9am if he goes tomorrow or Tuesday. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. It will be a long, tiring but enjoyable drive home. -------------------- |

Hospital food isnt all that good anyway, but, his taste buds still might not be working right either. When they put stuff down your throat, like that, it affects them for a few days. I have never had that, but, hubby has often, and he complains about the food for a good week, once that is removed, even if he is back home, where the food is the same as he always eats.
I am sure he was very glad to have a shower. :-)) -------------------- |

Well we aren't home but he is sleeping in the bed behind me here at the hotel, snoring away. I ordered a steak, chips & salad for him and he managed to eat half of it.
By the time the hospital finished stuffing around it was after 5pm so way too late to drive home. Rang the hotel and said, one more night please. After dinner he came outside for a few minutes but got very tired. So back to the room so I could rebandage him. The bandages were falling off literally. They dont teach the younger ones how to bandage thats for sure. We are supposed to come back in a week for a checkup but our GP will have a word about that as not much will change, the grafts look good. He could probably do a video feed to save us a trip. I am looking forward to snuggling up to him tonight, been too long. -------------------- |

Hope by now, you are on your way home, and all will be well there. I am also hoping that the GP can handle things now, so you dont have to make that long drive back and forth. Sure makes a difference when you can have things done locally.

I hope he can go on home and they can take care of him at home instead of running the long roads, He is mighty weak from being in the bed and not moving around much and it will take him a while to get his strength back Tess, You lose strength fast when your down and not moving . Keep us posted OK

We are home finally. It is now 10pm and have just sat down for a coffee and turned the computer on. At least a neighbour arrived with a huge meat pasta bake and a potato bake, enough to feed an army, so I didn't have to cook tonight.
Craig is doing well except for where they harvested the skin from his leg, its hurting worse than the burns. I just finished doing all the dressings as the home nurse doesn't start until he has seen our GP for the first dressings. The grafts are looking excellent and have taken well. Several glasses of red and a few very strong painkillers had him smiling through the dressings lol. I'm exhausted. He's feeling guilty because I'm spending most of the day helping him. I said I'd much rather that than not having you at all! Thank you all for the wishes and prayers, they worked. -------------------- |

Wonderful news Tess. Hopefully, where they took the graft from, will heal quickly. My daughter had a bone taken from elsewhere to repair her wrist a few years ago, and she said that hurt much worse than the surgery on the wrist, so guess, maybe it always hurts more when they remove stuff to fix something else. Hopefully, now you can both relax all day today.

Tess, thank you for the detailed report. It is great to see the progress Craig has made and is home at last. You two need a LOT of rest. Is it summer or winter where you are? Asking so that I can say....if it's summer, have someone come and do the yard for you (if your have a yard) so that you don't over-exert yourself.

Hi Maggie, its winter here so nothing to do round the yard.
The district nurse comes every morning to do the dressings, one less thing I have to worry about. He is healing well but the pain is getting to him a lot. That will ease over time. Off to Melbourne on Sunday for an outpatient appointment early Monday. Hopefully they will be pleased with how its going and we wont have to go all the way back there any time soon. -------------------- |
