I am always getting cut off the internet. All day long. Someone told me tht it may be a time-out problem. Does anyone know if there is a place in Allvantage or the puter where I can check this? thanks wink.gif

Jeanette do you have static in your phone line??? It doesnt take much to kick you off the interent if there is the slightest disturbance on a phone line, We fixed Cathys internet problem by using a cord with the 4 gold prongs you told us about. smile.gif

I used to have that all the time on Dialup and it was in the phone lines and I raised enough sand to get them to run a new line and it quit. It wont cut your phone conversation off but certainly will your interent as that modem is mighty sensitive. Either that or to many dialing in the same number as you unsure.gif

Absolutely! The house we had before this one? They were doing some building of new homes a mile away, and they were blasting rock. It ruined our phone line. The static was so bad you couldn't hear the person who you were talking to! The telephone company had to come replace the line.

Jeanette, it helps to leave your mail minimized to the bottom of your screen (if you are using outlook express). Set it to check for mail every 2 minutes. It is possible that many people are using those lines for other internets too, and if you look idle, they will boot you off. By setting the mail to check every 2 minutes and leaving it at bottom of screen, you have activity.

Allvantage uses lines that other internets used and owned by some other company, and it could be the company that owns the lines that decides on the idle time, even though allvantage doesnt.

Not so amazing. A lot of isp use lines owned by telephone companies. For instance, here my NCTC internet, is a telephone company, and it uses its own lines, but Allvantage uses lines owned by Windstream. It was owned by Alltel until just recently. While under Alltel ownership, actually didnt have any problem with the lines at all. Since Windstream has taken over, lots of line problems. My alternate internet used to be Accessky, and it also used the same exact dial up number as Allvantage did. Remember a while back, when I was off line for a few days, well those lines were out. I have since cancelled my Acessky, and gone back to NCTC for alternate isp, so that I am on a different set of lines, and unless some major catastrophe happens, it is doubtful that both set of lines would be out at the same time. I dont mean that line comes to your house, it is just the dial up that goes out through your lines to another set of lines. For instance here, Allvantage, Accessky, Juno, MSN,People PC, AOL, just to name a few, all use that same dial up number that is now owned by Windstream.
