I have used this for several days now and I really like it , It caught 2 dangerous trojans today and warned me about them and I told it to remove them. They were the kind to steal passwords and personal information But it removed them and then went back to its hiding place untill something else jumps at me smile.gif smile.gif

You want to hear something wild. Did you know that you can run this and run Avast too. I have been doing that for a couple of month now. It works great with both running...

Jane I coud be wrong and if I am someone please correct me but I always thought MSE had a running anti-virus program in addition to the maleware programs that came with it and it was advised to turn off any other AV program that may also be running. Seems now they are saying that it doesn't conflict with Avast but again in all my years all I have ever read is to not have two running AV programs on the computer.

Bob, you're absolutely right, it's definitely NOT a good idea to have more than one anti-virus running together on any one machine. Conflicts almost certainly will occur.

Anti-malware usually will usually run together with other anti-malware with no problems.

Here's Microsoft's own blurb from that link.

Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Microsoft Security Essentials is a free* download from Microsoft that is simple to install, easy to use, and always kept up to date so you can be assured your PC is protected by the latest technology. It’s easy to tell if your PC is secure — when you’re green, you’re good. It’s that simple.

Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want—without interruptions or long computer wait times.

So it does offer protection against viruses, malware, trojans and rootkits. It's certainly far far better than Windows Defender ever was - Defender was (no other way of putting it) pathetic.

well come to think of it I dont have an icon on my desktop and I can see one in my control panel but I dont see any kb or mbs as to how big it is so I am not even sure it is still in here, I even went to Program Files and cant find it under that either. Avast may have ate my MSE program !!!!!! Maby I will remove it out of the control panel and try one more time and see what happens.
I saw where you said if it is green everthing is ok, and I cant find the thing at all on here unsure.gif

I did try MSE for a little while but went back to Eset Smart Security.

It's a paid package but about the best in the business in my opinion, but don't forget that's just my opinion.

I have been reading, about it for a while now, and it sounds like many think it is a great program. I am not so sure, I would remove what I have to use it though, since what I have does an excellent job. Avast is an excellent anti virus too, and top rated, so I woudnt remove that one either.

About 5 months I was having problems updating Spyware Dr. 2011 so about time I was over on the Computer Fun Forum and I read someone had posted that they were told you could run Avast and MSE at the same time.

I asked if this was true or misprint and I was told it was true. I know we have always been told you should run one Anti-virus program only and I have until now and I have had not one problem running it.

Spyware Dr. 2011 want you to run their Anti-virus with the spyware fuction and I wanted to keep avast so Spyware Dr. went
