Journey # 98b
Don't See What We See----See What God Says Jairus has it all. Job security, money, prestige, a wonderful family, yet he was a man with a desperate need. "Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live." Lk 5:22-24. Immediately Jesus says, "Let's go" and starts toward his house. Out of the crowd a woman comes up and interrupts Jesus. Suddenly Jesus stopped and said, "Somebody touched Me." "What are you talking about? Everybody's crowding around you!" Jesus said, "No, I felt the power come out of Me." With the crowd watching and listening, Jesus has a long discussion with the woman. We don't have patience. We don't like to wait. And we especially don't want to wait when we have an urgent need. Can you picture Jairus standing there!? "Let's go! Let's go! My daughter is taking her last breath! Come back to this lady later!" Can you imagine what was going on in his mind? When is the last time this was going on in your heart? "Hurry up, Lord! Hurry up, Lord!" The test for Jairus wasn't over yet. "....some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler, "Your daughter is dead," they said. "Why bother the teacher anymore?" (Lk 5:35). His worst nightmare had come to pass. "I knew we should not have stopped." Then the Blame Game starts going. "Why did He have to stop? It's the woman's fault. No, it's the crowd's fault. They didn't let us move off quick enough." The frustration of that delay builds in people's lives---trying to find who is responsible for the terrible thing that now has come to pass. When the servants came with a message, "Don't bother the teacher anymore. Your daughter is dead." "....... Jesus heard the word that was spoken......." There is a difference between hearing a word and listening to a word. Jesus heard the word but He didn't listen to it. That's the difference between hearing the buzz of a conversation and listening with attention. You heard the buzz but it doesn't go anywhere. Jesus heard the message, but He didn't pay much attention to it. Our problem is that we start listening to these lies that undermine and erode our faith. The lies come like a corroding rust at our faith, to steal it away like a thief. Don't listen to what people say. Block them out. Turn them off. Close your ears. And, if you have to, walk away. Ignore the ones who say it's too late to start over. Don't be distracted by the logical. Believe there is more to life than meets the eye. "When Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to Jairus, What you are doing now needs to stop! Stop fearing! Stop fearing--just trust."Panic, fear and desperation had already seized Jairus. Jesus was now trying to help Jairus to have a greater desperation in his life, a desperation for Jesus Christ! Jesus didn't want Jairus to have a desperation with a desperate need, but a desperation for the only One who could do anything about that need! Our needs are not met in any state capitol or Washington, D.C. Our wonderful nation is in serious trouble because we have moved away from our Savior and have found another savior that can't save us. We have found a savior of law, economy and politics. It can't save us. Ask yourself--who and what am I counting on for the needs in life? Charles Spurgeon once said, "We have a great need but we have a great Savior for every need." Notice what Jesus tells Jairus---- "Stop fearing and keep believing." He was giving Jairus a word to sustain him in the face of fear. "Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don't be afraid; just believe. Now, let's go to your house." Jairus was encouraged by Jesus' words. Hopefully he thought that maybe Jesus could help after all. Together they hurried to Jairus' home followed by a large crowd who wanted to see what Jesus would do. Jesus didn't allow anybody to enter the house with Him, except His disciples, Peter, James, and John. "When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep." But they laughed at Him. After He put them all out, He took the child's father and mother and the disciples, Peter, James and John, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, "Little girl, I say to you, get up." Immediately the girl stood up and walked around." At this they were completely astonished. The mother and father couldn't believe their eyes when they saw the girl open her eyes, get up, and walk straight into her mother's arms. Jesus asked Jairus to see the unseen. He could see either the pain or the Healer. Jairus made his choice. He opted for faith and Jesus. Whatever your desperate need, you need to be more desperate for Jesus Christ. Turn a deaf ear to all the nay sayers and trust Him. Listen to what He is saying to you and, like Jairus, you will see the unseen as He begins to work in your life. Don't see what you see: see what God says. -------------------- |

The Word opens our eyes so that we may see Jesus Christ as Savior and Messiah.
Pray God give us the wisdom to choose life instead of death. -------------------- |
