I started tinkering with helping at a Detroit radio Help Forum. This one is driving me nuts. I must be missing something. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The only thought I currently have left is the driver she installed is not the correct one for her system.

Thanks.

The site coding will not allow me to directly link to the thread. On the Forum in the Windows Discussion it is the Windows and Drivers Updates.

DA is it possible the realtec program has become corrupted? Only other thing I can think of is the onboard sound card has died.

Jane... you're reading a different thread. whis.gif

Click on the WJR link that DA has in his post.
At the upper left click on Forum
Then click on Windows Discussion
The thread DA is referring to is the
Windows and Drivers updates.

All right DA, I lost my speakers one time and had to do a complete restore to get them back, and that was on a win 7 laptop, I never could figure out what happened to the speakers or why they quit but I figured it was something I downloaded or played online or something, I cant be of any help on this one but sometimes something does the speakers in like what happened to me and I still dont know what happened to them. But I was happy to get them back, I think I asked that question on here in the CQ & A trying to get help unsure.gif unsure.gif

DA, I read the post. Her problem could be a bad sound card, but, I also suspect it could be a virus problem. In this forum, go to the security section and look at the instructions for getting rid of moneypak virus. No, thats not what she has, but, if you post the instuctions and have her run them exactly like instructed, at least, she will be virus free, and if it is a virus that is messing things up, hopefully, she might get her sound back. I notice she says, she thinks she got rid of most of the virus, but, I am pretty darn sure, she hasnt. LOL Let us know how it works.

Thanks all.

Cat, I did share your thought and directions with the poster.

I am going to recommend a re-install. I caught the virus(s) comment too. Plus, the "no apparent reason" loss of sound attitude and the multiple Device Manager alerts leaves me to believe something has occurred that is not shared or malware is responsible.

Well, hopefully, she will be good at following instructions. :-))) I dont think she has the money pak virus, but, the instructions will work for a whole lot of virus. Since she cant do windows updates either, there is definitely something more than a sound card problem, and I am pretty sure it is malware, trojan, or virus related. Also, if and when she finds out her computer is clean, she should turn off system restore, reboot, and then enable it again and put in a new restore point. I would imagine her system restore is probably full of virus, since I doubt she did anything about that when she was trying to get rid of the others.

Well, I wish her well, but, she seems a bit lax about cleaning things up, thats for sure.
