Would anyone be interested in doing a collaborative manga as part of Anime Club?

I was thinking that, if we had everyone interested do one page, we'd end up with something awesome (or at the very least, entertaining) showcasing all the different styles of our members. It could be funny or serious, and breach countless genres as we build the narrative.

So... cool idea, or doomed to failure? Lemme know and I'll try to set it up!

Wouldn't dojinshi be more appropriate for the title of this topic? (I assume we are going to be self published)

All nitpicking aside I wouldn't mind lending a hand (or pencil hehe.)

(I might be shooting my self in the foot with this statement. Well we'll see what happens, and what happens, happens)

I imagine those of us with less talented hand-eye coordination could perhaps work in concert with those who are to come up with panels and story-lines? Probably easy enough to come up with a lot of inside jokes that might also work in a general context.

That sounds like a cool Idea!

Though with a talented Club and different artworks, I would imagine the Manga to be a collective work to produce work faster.

Something like a good story(one artist) with flash backs(2nd artist) then comic ensues(3rd artist), ...etc. That's how I imagine it, but whatever goes, goes.

If we do a manga I can at least Scan, or Produce a Flash Manga, or Produce a Movie from the Flash Manga for Youtube.

Remember to Ink out the pencil sketches because lead doesn't scan too well.

Normally true but if you have strong enough line art and play with the settings you can get a decent scan in of a pencil sketch. You still end up ink it but in photoshop.

The line art on the right is the original drawing and the one on left is my re-draw in photoshop. Used normal printer paper and a 0.5 pencil. There are going to be slight differences between the two because at the time I was doing the line art my monitor wasn't set at the right resolution, so I free transformed it to get the right dimensions. But all in all this is just how I've been doing it

I think it would nice to do something about introducing our Logo Mascot.
But not sure how the story boards are going to turn out?
One thought that jumps to mind is that Lobo has a girlfriend or meets a girlfriend.
And have other Lobos that are Manga cliché cast characters.
Though I'm not sure how personality and art style we are going for?

Any opinions?

Well, before we can do much, we need more than one committed artist. I'll bring it up in Club, and see if there are any hidden away.

And I don't think we should over-think this. Rather than drawing up a plan/plot/characters/etc. I say we just give someone a page to start, a second someone a page to continue, a third someone to follow-up, and continue as such until the story reaches conclusion.

Does anyone remember the napkin comic from LaPo a couple years ago? That's the sort of thing I was envisioning.

Personally I'd prefer something a little more structured then the napkin comic (I'm not the most spontaneous person there is. Plus I take foreveerrrr to draw.) But as I said what ever happens happens weather I'm shooting my self in the foot or not.

We should bring it up and also put it on the newsletter!

Definitely a cool idea, and I don't see why we shouldn't give it a shot. It'll be a good catalyst to get creative club juices flowing and give procrastinating artists like myself something to mess with, lol.

I agree with Tommy in that there should be some structure. Maybe an enhanced Napkin Comic... I'm sure we'll discuss more, but my 2 1/2 cents for now: low level basis for characters, environment, "plot" --- from there just free flow it page by page, artist by artist ala Napkin. That way maybe it'll start small/simple and evolve as we add by keeping the same framework constant.

heh, yeah, I was thinking some chibi characters or something, you know, nothing too detailed, but with something that'll let people recognize who they are. Maybe something somewhat similar in style to lobo...

And for some reason I want to come up with an idea that covers Marko/Jew, nazi youth Lucas, legions of subservient bombombs, Nazi, and devon and his coveted fire. That kind of inside joke sort of thing.

Well, yeah, can you think of any off the bat? The ones I mentioned happened in club, just not in the anime screening room.

Anyways, Justin should have given you the set of comic templates we managed to fill out. And we're gonna make it everyone's homework to do at least one before we let 'em into club.

I'll be a creepy male cheerleader for this project (I have no skill other than wasting my life watching stuff). . Can't wait to see what you all have this weekend, sounds interesting!
