word on the street was that some westerners had moved in to a rich house. however, no one knew who they were...

unless the young man had been seen under another identity.

today, class 3-5 of kiyota high school was excited. the news about an american boy transferring to their class had been out. "i think i saw him! he looks pretty cute!" "his smile is so charming..."

then the door flew open, and the class immediately settled down as the teacher entered the classroom. after exchanging greetings, the teacher looked around at her students with a smile. "class, it is my pleasure to introduce our new transfer student---Alex Kayton. please come in, Alex."

Alex entered, looking a little embarrassed. he was quite tall, around 6 feet, with brownish black hair and warm hazel eyes. "um, konnichiwa," he said. "my name is Alex Kayton...if it's too hard to pronounce, you can call me Kaiton Areku. dozo yoroshiku."

Laraine's eyes would widen as soon as she saw him enter the room. She hadn't even considered that it might be him.

She was quite new here herself, and had taken a seat in the back corner of the room. Her chin settled atop her arms as she watched him in silence. A quick glance was sent to the chair next to her, then around the rest of the room.

There're plenty of other chairs. He can sit anywhere. Just ... don't sit there. Please don't sit there..

Her hands were pulled into fists, knuckles white as she hoped and prayed that he would not choose a place next to her. She knew she should have taken a seat in the crowd. There was one empty one, surrounded on all sides. Thing was, she wasn't sure if she could have handled it there. Now she only wished she had taken it instead.

There was another girl, sitting surrounded by empty chairs. Younger looking than a good deal of her classmates, she looked more mature at the same time. Long black locks were pushed from her face by a white fabric headband. Her uniform was extremely neat, and her nails, rather than being coated in some sort of color, were neatly manicured with nothing more than a clear coat over them. Her face was a pretty one. Not gorgeous, but not ugly, and unadorned with any sort of makeup. She was immersed in a thick and difficult looking volume until she head a name.

Avalon looked up, raising a brow. Alex? She hadn't seen him in...years. Since Middle School to be exact. She stared at him with big, inquisitive hazel eyes. She looked him over. Indeed. It was Alex Kayton. The only person she'd ever found remotely tolerable in her younger years.

She stared quietly at him. He had moved, but they had kept touch for a short while before falling out. She had to wonder if he'd even recognize her. It had been so long ago... She certainly recognized him, however. And he'd hear her name when they called roll... She didn't even look THAT different, did she? True, she'd grown her hair out a bit more, and she'd gotten taller, but that was about it, right? Right.

Alex took a short moment to survey his new class while the teacher resumed the introduction ("...He had been in Japan for a while, and he's known to be a brilliant student..."). His eyes caught sight of Laraine, and a little cheery smile came up.

"You may take a seat now, Alex."

The voice had sounded somewhere off, but Alex heard it. He immediately looked around once more, wondering how there could be so many empty seats in the room. He was thinking of the one next to Laraine (for the fun of it), until he noticed someone else. He stopped, looked at her for one second, and immediately grinned. He walked down the room and slipped into a seat behind Avalon's.

"Why the heck do you still like an old-fashioned lady?" he whispered at her back.

"And give myself back problems? I think not." she said quietly back. Yes. He remembered her. She smirked, seeing as it was rare for her to give a genuine smile. "It's about time you got yourself back over here. I've been dreadfully bored." she said quietly. She glanced back at her book, listening for him. The way she felt, it was like he'd never left. She still had the little jolt you get whenever you see your best friend walk into the room, the little bubble in your stomach when you start talking to each other.

Alex was smiling as he glanced back towards Laraine while Avalon was speaking. As he glanced back, a small lily appeared on Laraine's desk.

"Do you really miss me that much? It seems to me that you've been enjoying yourself without me," he replied as-a-matter-of-factly. "Nobody care for a petty foreigner like me." He yawned quietly.

Laraine looked to the lily with disgust, then up to Alex with the same expression. A hand lifted lightly from her desk and reached towards it, a finger flicking at it to get it off. She had slightly more important things to do than deal with some idiot who enjoyed joking around with magic. She glanced down at the spot on her desk once more, just to make sure the stupid thing had gone, then once again looked back to him. But he had turned away, and a good thing too.

She pulled out a pen and her notebook, opening the notebook and laying it flat on her desk. Her pen tapped against the notebook for a second, before it started a steady writing across the page. Just another short story she'd been working. Boredom stuff..

There was a knock at the door, and panting could be heard outside. Someone was late for class.

"Enter..." called the teacher.

Yami entered the room looking flustered, his face was beet red and his collar wet with persperation. He'd woken up seven minutes ago.

"Gomenasai sensei!" he said pulling open the door, "I got lost on the way here again..." he bowed deeply and a few droplets of sweat fell from his hair onto his shoes.

The teacher sighed and glared at Yami, this was the second time in the three days he'd been here that he was late. "Very well Mr. Akamura, take your seat. I don't think you need a map to find it."

"Yes Ma`am err i mean no ma`am..." he slunk back towards his seat and took up position behind, of all people, Laraine. "Ayaa I need an alarm clock..." he muttered.

She giggled a bit when she saw Yami entering the room. Yep, second time in three days. She actually found it sort of sad, but she wouldn't say that. It wasn't smart to make a bad impression like that at a new school. The teacher already seemed to hate him. Still, it took away from the monotony .. at least for a moment or two.

A quick wave was sent as he walked by. She looked back behind her as he took his seat, eyed him a moment .. and then shook her head - with a smile, of course. She wasn't being mean really.

Alex's eyes had been wandering around the room until they rested on Yami, who had burst in suddenly. They grew wide, and his voice lowered to a soft hiss.

"Akamura..."

Yes, he didn't like him. After all, Akamura had been the one who had ruined his plans. Now they were classmates. No worries, Kayton. Just keep cool. He'll suffer if he dares cross me again.

Yami felt someone looking at him and looked over at Alex....who was he? Yami couldn't really remember and he didn't really care. The boy had a sour look though, maybe he didn't like the way Yami looked.

With Alex staring so grimly at him Yami did the only the only thing he could, he grined like he had no idea what was going on and gave Alex a wave. His face a mixture of what do you want and hey! how ya doin?

Seeing the wave, Alex could only give a small smile and turn his attention back to the board. He wasn't going to be intimidated. He would leave Akamura be.

|ooc: -bowbowbow- many sorries. Was out of town. And figure skating. And getting a new rat (yay! Named her Violet Hermione!)... and counting down until Harry Potter goodness (Five days and forty minutes!) |

Avalon had become re-enthralled in her book, her brow raising lightly as she read a particularly interesting fact. She submitted it to the infinate database in her mind, before glancing back over her shoulder at Alex. "Yes, if you must know, I did. I'm surrounded by idiots."

She studied his face for a moment, flicking a straight raven lock over her shoulder. She looked around the room discreetly... it wouldn't do anything for the perfect and somewhat intimidating image she gave herself if she was seen gawking around at her classmates. Her eyes fell one a girl a bit away from them, and the boy who had arrived late. She frowned.

"It would appear you know that boy." she said evenly. "Care to explain?"

|ooc: Bah. It's late, and I'm tired. It's short... bite me. |

"What? Um, no. I don't know him," Alex replied flatly. It was a very personal matter which he would rather not tell anyone. Especially not Avalon. She would so freak out if she were to find out that he was a "part-time" murderer.

"Anything happened while I was gone, by the way?"

She shrugged. "Not particularly." Hazel eyes skimmed over the lesson on the board. Why she came to school remained a mystery to her. Why couldn't she just e-school a math course and go ahead and take the final exams for everything else? It was so very dull, seeing as she already KNEW all of the material they were teaching. "Mother joined Father in being gone constantly, so I typically have the house to myself. I reached legal genius status. I got an iPod and a laptop. We moved to a penthouse apartment. That would be about it." The sad part in that sentence? She was referring to her iPod and laptop when she said 'we'.

She skimmed over her book breifly, soaking in a very complicated looking illustration, before yawning quietly. Really. She should take up that e-school plan with the administration. If she e-schooled, it would allow her to sleep to a reasonable hour. Rather than having to get up at the crack of dawn, she could sleep until closer to nine. That would be simply lovely. Because everyone KNEW lack of sleep made your brain function at a far lower percentile, and she simply wasn't willing to go to to sleep at eight o'clock every night to ensure the needed nine hours and fifteen minutes of sleep nightly.

Coming out of her thoughts of sleep, she glanced around the room to find a fair bit of the class, ignoring the fact that it was the first day, was catching up on THEIR sleep right on their desks. She, no matter how tired, would NOT be caught sleeping in class. It would tarnish her perfect record, and would put a dent in the respect and mild fear her classmates held of her.
