Well, I don't have any lists anywhere, but I did add some books by ISBN tonight and it was a lot quicker than doing them by author or title.

You have a list of the ISBN's for your books? Ummm... isn't that a tad bit obsessive?

Not that there's anything wrong with being obsessive about books...

More geeky than obsessive. I have rather more information about them listed than I'll ever need. But hey, the ISBN came in handy, now didn't it. So there.

You're right, it did. I yield the discussion...

But now you've got me curious. What kind of information do you have? I've never listed my books anywhere but I will confess that I have thought about it. It would come in handy if my house were to be destroyed by fire.

Of course, this is only helpful because I'm geeky enough to have ISBNs and other info for my books in an excel spreadsheet already.

I thought I was geeky, having the author, title, publisher, date and notes in excel. Never thought to put in the ISBN. Dang.

(I keep it printed out, so I can take it to the bookstore to replace what I still don't have without duplicating.)

I originally put the ISBN in with the thought of maybe one day writing something to pull data automatically, though I've never done it. Mine has all the info Eisel mentioned, plus series name, genre, cover artist--I'm jealous of brand new authors who get Michael Whelan's art, by the way--and number of pages.

I've played with putting it in a database too, which would be nicer for books with multiple co-authors or editors or translators, but I'm not willing to give up the ability to easily order them the way I want them ordered. Doing that's a pain with a database. Anyway. More information than any of you wanted to know smile.gif

Yeah, I print out copies sometimes, and I keep one on my palm pilot too. It's kinda hard to scroll through, but easier than carrying around a 10 page list... I'm horrible about forgetting which books I have vs ones that I've looked at and decided to get later.

I've thought about the data base idea many times, too, but still prefer excel. Oh, I do denote series number, et al. Not pages though - interesting. I do create a new worksheet in one document for genres. All my fantasy on one, etc - but I'll duplicate the book if I think it fits elsewhere too.

Are you Paloma at LibraryThing? So we can see your library?

She's the antqueen, of course.

And I can only see six of her 201 books.

I think she's deliberately keeping me from seeing the rest of her list...

I wish that the guy who fixed the other person's catalog had said what it was. I don't think it's anything I can fix, and I've seen people complaining that they can't make part of their list private, so I can't have accidentally done that. I'll check back on Monday and send a note if it's still doing it.

I spent way too much time messing with tags and browsing the groups and things today. They have a few features coming up that look like they'll be nice.

Oh, did I mention that they fixed my catalog? It's visible now.

All 1,300+ of them?

Cool.

I'll have to give it a look-see.

1300 books. shooey. I"ve been buying like crazy and still only replaced around 300.

BUT.

Does anyone visit Public Domain Books Online? Fascinating stuff, from Burroughs to Shakespeare to Atlantic Monthlys from the 1850s. I downloaded more than 50 today, just from the As.

I've never understood why you felt you had to apologize...

Seems pretty harmless.

Random and strange but harmless.

If I've missed something, I don't want to know. And I haven't watched the videos...
