Okay, I've never yet recieved a physical (and even if I had, my main character is female, so it wouldn't help much). My main character is a 16-year-old female, who is getting a (not routine) physical at the hospital. What would this entail?

She's been struck by lightning, if that helps. Would it even be procedure to perform a physical on her, considering her status as a lightning victim?

She was lucky; only minor burns and muscle pain, as well as a Lichtenberg figure-style burn on her back. No other short-term effects.

Any knowledge/ideas from personal experience?

You may want to change the extent of her injuries.

People who are hit by lightning usually have burns - entry and exit wounds. Heart problems are common - the electricity disrupts the heart's rhytmn. Broken bones are also common because a strike often knocks people hundreds of feet. There can also be muscle problems and memory problems.

So, to answer your question - yes, a physical exam at the ER would happen. In fact, she would probably arrive via ambulance, on a backboard. They would check for the entry/exit wounds, broken bones, muscle damage and they would do blood work. You're looking at x-rays, CT scans, MRI's. Even is she was as lucky as you say, they would still do the tests to be on the safe side.

I hope that helps.
