I know I posted no spoilers, so I'll keep this to some vague generalities. FPTRRL (Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland) is a cross between a Legend of Zelda game, and a game like Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing.

It may take us a while to decode this beast, so it can fit properly into the mythos, and is a nightmare to convert into the module project layout we'll be using, but still it look like it will be fun to play and requiring a whole new strategy and style of play.

I've played very little of it so far, but you can rest assured that this game WILL be included in the Legend of Zelda mythos, and that we will provide plenty of options inspired by the game. (I already have quite a few in mind!)

Still, I promised at least two weeks of no spoilers for the design team, and a further two weeks of no spoilers for fans. But from the looks of it, this may still not be enough time to complete this game properly. Oh well...

In the meantime, enjoy FPTRRL and as soon as the spoiler period is over, we can discuss this game properly - as I am sure most people will need help with recipes or haggling.

I found a complete Let's Play of FPTRRL on YouTube. Here's the first video, and you can get to the rest from the author's page.

A shame I live in the U.S. This is the closest I'll come to actually playing it.

Okay, I've just sat through this Let's Play of FPTTRL for 13 hours...

Basically, this sucks. The guy is funny enough, but this is not an accurate reflection of the game. The guy plays like a dufus throughout most of the games, and has missed out on quite a few secrets that would have made his experience somewhat easier. Most of these seem to stem from what is a simple lack of insight into the game mechanics.

The game gouges rupees heartlessly, and this can be frustrating, if you don't understand the concept behind the game. In fact, virtually everything that Tingle spends money on comes back with increased dividends after completion. This walkthrough leaves so much of this undiscovered, simply because the guy could not be bothered, and was tight with his rupees. There are at least three major areas of the game that he missed out on, simply because he wasn't willing to explore.

Exploration, secrets, and so forth, have always been a part of the Legend of Zelda series, but this is the only game where it is actually the focus, with what normally encompases most of the Zelda gameplay - action, being relegated to a less significant part of the game. It's a change, but doesn't make it bad, and even this guy likes the game, despite the fact that this has to be one of the worst playthroughs of it I have ever heard of. Still, the guy should be applauded for his efforts, as this must have been a monumental task, even with all his fumbling and screw-ups.

As such, the grinding involved in this game, referenced several times as off-screen action, varies from game to game based on how well you play and how many secrets you uncover. But it is not just the 'grind' that is affected - the lame ending comes not from the fact that he did not collect all the rupee goods, but from the fact that he missed several important late-game secrets (which I won't spoil here until I complete the module write up for FPTRRL)

That's a shame. I haven't looked at the LP in any depth yet, but I am aware that there are multiple endings for the game. If anyone finds a more comprehensive LP, I'd appreciate a link here.
