I have gone through the intense heat and didn't need or at least see the need for more fludro...but we are begining to have tomatoes and watermelons and I found that yesterday I was really getting flushed out...so I took an extra 1/4 tablet. Now today I don't see any need for that extra amount. Do any of you think high potassium foods affect your need for fludrocortisone? I usually take 1 tablet for two days and 1 1/4 the third day...I hope this was just a random happening...but I really love watermelon and don't want to miss out. smilies0785.gif

It sounds right Jo!! Don't know how much potassium rich food we would have to eat to cause a big change in the level. If you feel right you must be doing the right thing. I can never feel highs and lows with it and just eat what I want.

Keeping the sodium up is my problem. I'm working outside nearly every day so have increased my florinef to 1 tablet every day. Had been taking 1/2. Also being sure to take a Thermotab in the a.m. and with early evening snack.

Very lucky that it is cloudy today, but still sweat like crazy out there. Martin does the heavy work, but I do the detail stuff. Well, as much as that is here in the wild!!

Hi Jo

I did a lot of research when I found out about Addison's. One article said that normal people should have 3000 mg of potassium. It said with Addison's 1000 or less.

I will try to find the article but here a few that have really high potassium. Potatoes, spinach, strawberries, watermelon, broccoli... I feel better when I watch the amount.

I hope that helps.

As a secondary trying florinef for the first time this summer, I just don't know if it is working or not. How do you feel when you need more...or less? I have felt horrible for almost a week now, and did take 5mg extra HC yesterday, which didn't do too much. I eat watermelon and bananas everyday trying to keep my potassium at an even level. I go low so easily, thats why endo thought it might help me. I HATE THE HEAT!! Just don't know what to do now. At first I felt so much better on florinef, then my BP went way too high, so I cut down to everyother day.

Fludrocortisone will usually lower potassium so eating those foods is a good idea for you. Hope you soon feel better.
