Author: Asthenia182 (Tara)
East Wing Character: Mirrorverse-based. Remus narrating.
Rating: T
Genre: General/Drama
Warnings: Demon has ass-kicking boots. This Is Not News.
Summary: Remus is thinking.

Notes: It was about... what, three in the morning? when I was lying awake in bed, and the line "this is how he thinks of her" popped into my head. So I thought about it a little, picked up my phone, and typed a quick message to myself and wrote it out when I woke up. This is what resulted, and I adore it.

This is how he thinks of her: lying on the couch, settled down, talking to her swollen stomach, about how wonderful life will be when she's born. He lets out a light breath of a chuckle, and she lifts her head, looks at him, and grins. It’s moments like this when he falls in love with her all over again.

This is how he thinks of her: walking into their living room, laughing when the cat escapes out into the rest of the mansion, their children – Cora and Neil – hot on its heels. Her hair is in a state of disarray, and the window is open. Breezes pick up with her laughter, and she’s so beautiful to him that it’s hard to keep in mind that her work is so dangerous, and someday, she might not come back.

This is how he thinks of her: sitting next to him in the dining room, feeding Morgan Freeman bits of honeydew and carrots. She and Sam are playing with a crystal, using various skills to keep it in the air. Colors dance across the walls and ceiling and the tablecloth is littered with rainbows. He kisses her suddenly, and she laughs, breaking her concentration. Trystan catches the crystal just in time to keep it from shattering on the hardwood.

This is how he thinks of her: running down a hallway in front of her, screaming to Elaine about something new that will undoubtedly revolutionize their work. She says that every time, but she’s always right, and that’s what he gets for marrying a psychic.

This is how he thinks of her: hair in a state of chaos – God, he’s so obsessed with her hair – eyes flashing from brown to amber, snow falling outside when the summer monsoons should be hitting. She’s mumbling about Shadow Casters, and they should know better by now, no matter how funny it was. She spots him in the doorway, and suddenly the sun is shining outside again.

This is how he thinks of her: always smiling, warmth spreading through to his fingertips, excitement and constantly moving.

Not crying when a mission goes wrong, and another victim is lost, and how can life be so cruel?

Not sitting in a bedroom, face void of emotion, as she tries to pick up something – anything – that can help them.

Not fighting tooth and nail and lightning flashing across the sky as armed guards carry her and Elaine and some of their team away in unmarked cars, shouting and distractions away from the rest and all the children.

Not sitting with Elaine and Sam and Demon and Nicole in padded cells, bound up so they can’t use their Gifts to get out, and Demon is frustrated as anything that they took away her ass-kicking boots.

It’s only because of Elaine and Ari that he knows that much, because They don’t really know what Elaine can do, and Ari is home, and Elaine sends images as best as she can, without getting attention from their constant guard.

They all stand over maps, crystals in hand, and it’s not much, but it’s all they have, for now, and he’s not stopping until he has her home. Mel and Adi – original targets – are safe, as are the younglings, so now she is his most important goal, and he’ll be damned if some idiot politician intends to make them a warning of their kind.

She’s the exception to every thought these presumptuous nuts have about them.

And him?

He’s the rule.

I'd like to add that, yes, I am a Remus-nut, and I adore him utterly, and I think he's wonderful. I'm also heavily invested into the line of Mirrorverse, because it is the best thing I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and when you like something, sometimes what happens is fanfic getting written. I write Mirrorverse fanfic. :woot:

I loved this the first time I saw that, you know that. It's horrible and horrifying and so good.

Oh wow. I didn't get to read this when you posted it. I'm glad I read it now. Very suspenseful and sad!

This is so powerful Tara, I was just going to read your drabble fic then I realised that I should read this one first...

I love the theme change... getting me all invested in the story then... BOOM! all sad that Remus is sad.
