A friend of mine told me today that it was confirmed, there will be a POTC numero cuatro, The Fountain of Youth...

There's nothing on IMDb, yet, but... the rumors have been flying for a long time, actually... and, I really don't know what to think. It will probably cut out Elizabeth (yes!) and Will (but Will can't really go, since he's the new Davey Jones and has to show up to ferry the dead, of course). Also, what kind of plot would there be? Honestly, what's left? Still, should it come true, I would absolutely watch... biggrin.gif

If they do a new Pirates, I would go see it, but I'm not sure how it would pan out. I can see Elizabeth and Jack doing this, each for their own reasons. (Jack because he's chased every form of immortality he can, Elizabeth to be with Will.) And the Fountain of Youth myth only has had The Fountain made recently, and the styles would be different enough that no fair comparisons could be made.

But the thing is- Depp said he liked playing Jack. Bloom's career- isn't really going anywhere. (He's done 17 movies total, but only LOTR and Pirates have done very well, with only two lined up.) But Kiera Knightley is taking off. She might not want to do that, because it could get her typecast in historical movies. (Movies starring her that I can think of- Pirates 1/2/3, Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, and Domino.) And while Elizabeth isn't my favorite character, I REALLY don't want to see her recast. That goes badly. (Admittedly, seeing a "Jigga-wha?" ad for the new SGA episode might be a reason- hmm...)

Actually, if there is a movie, I don't see it happening 'til 2011, at the earliest. I just looked at Depp's IMDB page- Dear god, he has a lot of movies. And oh, yeah, he might actually play a vampire.

Yeah, guys, unless I see an IMDb page surface, I'm seriously not buying into this rumor mill one bit. I've seen tabloids proclaim it ridiculously, but I can't see it happening in the slightest. Hopefully Jerry Bruckheimer will realize that there is too much of a good thing, if he hasn't already. I don't see this gaining speed.

As far as Keira being typecast in historical dramas, she's getting there. I think the last three of her movies (Pride & Prejudice, Silk, and Atonement) were all historical dramas, and the newest one with Ralph Fiennes, The Duchess is no exception. But I can't see her on board for another Pirates sequel, and I don't even think Johnny would jump on the ship (no pun intended) without Orlando or Keira.

Johnny Depp!Vampire=delicious. Muy delicioso.

Sorry, what?

Oh, yeah.

Pirates.

That's an interesting idea, Elizabeth drinking from the Fountain of Youth so that she'll never grow old and die and can always be with Will. I like it, I do.

I really hope she's not recast, if this movie actually does come to fruition. Once an actor/actress has really established a character at least twice in a specific role, it just does not work to see anyone else try to fill their shoes. I REFUSE to see The Mummy 3 for that very reason. *coughnoRachelWeiszcough*

I agree about Orli. He briefly became a hunky-type superstar for about three years but now he's just kind of...plunked. Shame, really...he's not a bad actor, although he does seem to only have exactly four different facial expressions in his movies--the "blank look," the "contented smile," the "wide-eyed shock," and the "I'm so proud I could burst." laugh.gif

If there is a fourth, Johnny would do it, for absolutely positive certainty, I just don't know what the writers would do with Lizzie and Will, they tied them up pretty well with At World's End. I don't mean that they would recast the characters, just that the characters would go to character heaven as it were... be submitted to bad fanfiction, and all that...

Um... I couldn't care less about Keira being type-casted, but she does essentially play the same character in everything, let's recap what I've seen: Pirates, Atonement, P&P, King Arthur, Love Actually, and I've heard about The Duchess. In all of them she is the love interest of the protagonist (or of a protaginist as the case may be) and is typically kicking someone's arse in the mean time. Pirates was an action/comedy, Atonement was a drama/romance, P&P was a period romance, King Arthur was action, Love Actually was a romantic comedy, and THe Duchess is something like action/romance from what I can tell. Hm... same character? Yes, why yes she is...

Hey, hey, go easy on 'Lando... yeah, I know he's stuck in a rut, I'm kinda ticked at him for letting himself do nothing, but he is a decent actor, problem is he already is being type-casted. Immediately after LOTR, what did he do? More action as the handsome side-kick (Leggy wasn't a side-kick, but you know what I mean). After that Ridley Scott said, 'hey, maybe this kid can stand on his own two feet' and put him in Kingdom of Heaven, that didn't work out so well. Now he needs to find something extremely different, a psycho-thriller like Red Eye or something, prove that he can do more than swing swords and angst in a fluffy way. Which he can, I was actually impressed about the deapth he gave to Will, who quite frankly, is not the most complex of characters, though he does have his own issues. Especially in POTC 3, if you watch his face closely in some of the scenes, I think he shows alot more of what he can do than he's ever done before.

Maybe I'm just a hopeless fangirl, who knows... I think he can do more than he's been doing, though... biggrin.gif

QUOTE (Demon of Your Soul @ Aug 15 2008, 12:32 AM)
After that Ridley Scott said, 'hey, maybe this kid can stand on his own two feet' and put him in Kingdom of Heaven, that didn't work out so well.

laugh.gif No, no it didn't. He was about as interesting as a bowl of oatmeal in that one. That movie irked me so much, probably because I expected it to be so much more what with its brilliant cast, and it just turned out to be some rambling mess.

I think I only tolerate Orlando in Pirates and Elizabethtown. I mean, I actually do like Will Turner as a character. Otherwise, I just don't find him all that diverse or talented, just kind of neither here nor there. He's good at sittin' pretty, and those fab four facial expressions Heather conveniently noted. tongue.gif (And ohmygosh, no Rachel Weisz! It makes my soul weep -- I love that dynamic duo between her and Brendan Fraser).

But yeah, as much as my inner fangirl digs an entirely Jack Sparrow centered new take on the franchise, I just hate that they'd even attempt to overmilk it (if that's the case). I have this pet peeve with producers trying to shove past the limits of a perfectly good trilogy. Do I see the potential with that whole Fountain of Youth thingy? Well, yeah, it was suggestive at the end of the movie. I just don't want them to exhaust this series.

For some reason, when you mentioned Red Eye, it got me thinking about Orli stepping outside his box, and I thought about what it would be like if he ever played a Crazy-Stalker-Murderer a la Psycho or P2. He could probably pull it off if he tried hard enough...he's got that boy-next-door face, but at the same time he has this really deep intensity, almost like a whole dark area that's completely untapped.
Weird thought, and totally off-topic. But oh well.

And I kind of have to agree with Ari about the series being exhausted. It'd be cool if they made a fourth one, I guess...I'd go see it, but honestly, I wasn't all that fond of the third one--I felt like it had gradually lost something, and a fourth film would probably carry even more of that same feeling.
(I also concur with the soul-weeping...)

I'm probably the odd one out who actually likes O.B. in KoH. laugh.gif I just love the movie in general because it's one of the few period movies I've seen that really transport me to another time period, rather than just thinking, "Oh, I'm watching a period movie" the whole time. (Then again, I've only ever seen the director's cut, which from what I understand makes a whole lot more sense than the theatrical, so maybe I'm just biased.)

Key-points so as not to get off-topic (too much):

+ I'd go see a 4th movie
+ Kiera Knightley is full of win, but I hate the character of Elizabeth after DMC
+ Johnny!VAMP?! Plznthx in advance
+ OB in KoH was amazing, actually, I loved that movie

I dunno. Am I the only one that really liked the third movie? Sure, it took me a few tries to get all the who is working for who down but, I really do like it. I didn't think it was missing anything.

I would go see the 4th movie if they made one. I would be kind of bummed if Keira wasn't in it. I mean, I'm not crazy about Elizabeth, but at this point, I really can't see anyone else doing a good job after seeing Keira for three movies as Elizabeth. blink.gif Did that even make sense?

Orlando needs to get into a movie that isn't action. Yus, yus. I agree.

I would say, if they do make a fourth one, they should just stop the series after that. But if they make a fourth one, cool. biggrin.gif

I liked it! And I kinda want to see extended KOH, just for giggles.

And Johnny is actually going to be in Dark Shadows movie. And it's only rumored... though Depp's production company is doing it... and Depp has wanted the role since he was a kid... I believe IMDb this time, actually.

I agree with all of the above about the fourth, if it comes out I'm definitely going to see it but somehow I feel it will be less good than the others.
And Johnny as a vampire? Wooooooh....... drool.gif
Off topic though, he's doing Alice In Wonderland and if you haven't seen the trailer ...DO!
It looks AWESOME! ...maybe the film'll suck but for now the trailer looks good
