I watched Order of the Phoenix for a second time tonight on DVD, and it got me thinking what's going on for the sixth installment under wraps, as far as who they've casted and whatnot. It wasn't my favorite of books in the series, but I'm curious.
They've casted a Narcissa (I don't think we've ever seen a Narcissa in the movies, have we?), as well as the Riddles (Ages eleven and teenaged), as well as Slughorn. The boy who is actually playing Tom Riddle at age eleven is Ralph Fiennes' (Voldemort) nephew. Yates is still directing it (which I think is awesome), and it's scheduled for a November 21st release date this year in the United States. I don't know if anybody else knew all this, maybe this is just my attempt to bring some love into this forum now that the book series is over -- But who's to say we can't still look forward to the films? The Narcissa that they casted was originally supposed to play Bella.
And no, they refused to show Narcissa before now, even though she is supposed to make an appearance in the fourth movie (for the World Quidditch Cup Tournament, or, whatever they call it), but they cut her out (like so many other things that got cut). I think I knew that they cast Fiennes nephew for the young MoldieVoldie. In a way, I wish they could have cast the guy from the second movie, but, upon thinking about it, it's understandable that they can't. He's much older now. Though, this will make things interesting for the woman who plays Moaning Myrtle, because she was in her twenties when she first started playing the dead FIFTEEN year old.... and I don't know if she's still in her twenties or not, but, how long can someone that old (not saying she's old per se, just saying that for this particular part she's a little too old), play such a young part? I hated this book, but, I liked Yates directing (I know I'm one of the few) and so, I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what he does with this movie. Though, I am a little concerned about it, because when the seventh book came out, I do recall someone quoting him as having made a comment regarding the "problem" of Severus loving Lily" and what that would do to his ideas for the movie. I remember thinking, "urgh! Now what are they going to screw up when making the movies?!" Can't they just for ONCE follow the BOOKS when making these movies?! STOP CHANGING THINGS!!!!!!! Anyway, thanks for sharing this rel. Much appreciated. Oh, and from what I was told, the seventh movie is set to be released January of 2009 (or is it 2010? I think it was 2009 though). |

Um, how exactly is Severus loving Lily a "problem"? It makes perfect sense.
Directors seriously get on my nerves. "Oh, no! My creative vision has been destroyed by the author's new book! Now I'll have to totally rethink my outlook on life!" Anyway, I really hope they do a good job with HBP. OTP was actually half-decent, after the horrid travesty of the fourth movie. |

I wasn't overly crazy with the idea to begin with, but, I'm getting used to it over time, and I can understand it.
She was the only person he connected with outside the Wizarding world as a kid, and she was nice to him when others weren't, and she stayed nice to him after they went to Hogwarts (well, until he insulted her). So, even though she didn't see him in the same way he saw her, I can totally understand why he fell in love with her. It's just something I can personally identify with, I guess. But then, I look at Severus, and I can see a lot of myself in him. |

Yeah, you guys might have heard about this, but they're splitting the seventh book up into two films. Part One is going to be released late November of 2010. Part Two is slated for May 2011. Yates is to direct the last three, according to IMDb. |

He's still smokin' hot, though. I think it's kind of cool that Fiennes' nephew is playing 11-year-old Riddle. If he looks like him enough, it'll be less weird, as far as the whole resemblence thing. (Similar point: 3rd Mummy movie, they cast an actress that doesn't look like Rachel Weisz, what the heck? NOT COOL. /offtopic.) The two parts to the 7th movie has mixed feelings from me. On the one hand: Hello, I want to see the whole thing in one go, and not have to wait for the ending that I already know is a terrible epilogue! But on the other, this way they have more time to put more details and less cuts in there. The Snape/Lily thing is nice. I loved it. It's terrible that the director thought it was a problem. If Jo were in complete charge of everything (like the puppetmaster) then she probably would've made things a lot more to the book. Even though Ron/Hermione isn't my favorite ship. And the epilogue makes me angry. But that is neither here nor there. (I do not like them in a box, I do not like them with a fox...) My two cents. |

And that's the movie that they can cut pretty well... *sighs* As long as they don't touch the final battle too much...
I wonder how they are going to handle this movie? I mean, quite a few fans weren't happy with the sixth book. (Fanfictionish, I think was the chief concern. After, you know, the whole Tower thing...) |

See, what I don't get, is that when people were clamoring for the 4th and 5th books to be split in the movies, the response was that it just couldn't be done for whatever lame reason, even though there was TONS of info in the books (which were much larger than the 7th book), and yet the 7th book, which was the shortest, and the worst written (imo) because it had the most plot holes and the worst wrap-up I've ever seen in a book!, is being split into two movies "in order to cover all the "details"?! WTF?!
This just irritated me to no end! Sorry. |

Woah, hold on. They're splitting up the 7th movie? WHY? That has got to be the stupidest idea ever. I didn't even really like the 7th book. As Satai said, too many plot holes and a horrible wrap. I just want to..... ARGH!

Yep, they are. But, has WB (forgive me cousin) ever done ANYTHING that made sense where the HP movies are concerned?!
If any of the movies should have been split, it should have been 4 and 5, but noooooo.... that's when they said that there would be too much to cover to split up, and they didn't think anyone would sit through three or four hours of a movie... WHAT?! Did they not learn from LOTR?! Of COURSE we'd sit through three or four hours of a movie if it was as well done as LOTR! Hell, technically, if you string them all together, people sat through NINE hours of a movie!!!!!!!!!!! |

Much longer if you like to have extended edition marathons when you cannot get to sleep no matter what you try... There is so much they could cut from book 7, I agree. Maybe they're splitting it because they thought 'oh... dear... all those things we should have mentioned earlier that are now important... we should really think about putting them in...' Or perhaps I'm giving them too much credit. Most likely, considering the track record... |

I agree with Delenn. I honestly think that they should have split up the 4th and 5th movies. There was a greater NEED for those books. They were chock full of details and plot points that were forgotten.
Although... you know what have been really funny? If JK decided to screw everyone over by making Peeves a big character in the last book. haha! That always bugged me that they never stuck Peeves into the movies. Even though, he kind of was important in the fifth book. Hello, my favorite line was "Give her hell from us, Peeves." (when Fred & George left Hogwarts in a blaze of fireworks. There are several things I don't like about this plan to split the last book. But I kind of need to go get some sleep... |
