I watch my first full episode on Saturday while talking to Tara. So all I've seen is David Tennant. I wan't really interested in watching since the really old episodes are from when our parents were little.. and they told us that they'd be scared of them.. but to us the effects were just seriously outdated..

However being more of a sci-fi fan now.. I really enjoyed Doctor Who.. and will be watching it from now on wink.gif

HA! I LOVE Doctor Who... I blame Lola, of course, because she sent me this.

It was funny, and I was intrigued... so I started watching some episodes on youtube... after a bit, I found out Doctor Who was on BBC America, and I started watching that with my dad. He and I are both hooked on it, and are trying to get a sonic screwdriver off eBay, as well as, possibly, some blueprints to building a TARDIS... biggrin.gif

But, yes, I love Doctor Who. I've only seen Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant... you know, as opposed to all eight other versions.

My favorite Doctor is David Tennant, but CE is pretty good, too. He's funny.

The Doctor makes me happy and makes my heart rate accelerate... I've had dreams about him (much to my happiness) and I've hallucinated the sound of the TARDIS late at night... That was one time, though... darnit.

My favorite episode is probably... The Girl In The Fireplace, although I'm also very fond of The Christmas Invasion, Tooth And Claw, and The Idiot's Lantern... and The Impossible Planet, but mostly because of these quotes:

QUOTE
Ood: We must feed... you if you are hungry.

QUOTE
Rose: That's... Ood.
Danny: Yes, that's very Ood...

Anyways... yes. I love the Doctor. I'm looking forward to Friday nights again, all because of him and his misadventures and his massive gob, because he talks so much... like me... Gosh, Tara, shut up!

Anyways... yeah, lots of love for the Doctor...

I adore Doctor Who, it's my favorite show. The only doctors I've seen so far are William Hartnell (#1), Christopher Eccleston, and David Tennant. David is my favorite, but sometimes he just gets way too Emo. But I suppose you can't blame him.

I've been a bad girl and downloading the episodes. I downloaded all of season 3 and also I've been getting the classic series. Doctor Who Confidential is rather interesting so I've been getting that too.

My fav eps are probably The Parting of the Ways, Doomsday, The Runaway Bride, Human Nature, Family of Blood, The Sound of Drums, and The Last of the Time Lords.

Pretty much the only fanfiction I read is DW fiction, A Teaspoon and an Open Mind is probably the best site to do so.

I've gotten blueprints to build a TARDIS, and hopefully if we can clear out the area next to the house we'd have room to start building.

And speaking of DW, does anyone watch Torchwood? It's pretty explicit and filled with man-on-man action but I rather like it.

I really wanted to watch Torchwood but we don't have the channel! I was really mad/sad but I still get to watch DW!! That was the upside!

I've watched the first three Torchwood. They're not quite as bad as they say.

Donna's coming ba-ck, Donna's coming ba-ck.

Has anyone seen JesIdres' Whooligans on Deviantart? They're really funny, especially the Alternate Ending "Tooth and Claw". And Chibi!Doctor, who is too cute for words.

OK, bringing this in from another discussion, lol which was OT where it was...

Wow, lol. You've gone WAY over my head on this. I know Tennant and Rose, but outside of that, you lost me. I watched the original when I was a kid, but had real trouble following it, because I really had trouble understanding why the doctor kept changing actors, and it bugged me too much, though I do vaguely remember the Dahleks (sp?) which seem to be a massively recurring theme in the new series (though their voices really grate on me), and I don't much care for Rose. I do tend to follow the series a little more in the new one, but I really only came in right after Tennant came in, and caught about two episodes of the one with the guy before him. I don't know, I like Tennant. Something about him. Maybe it's his energy. Yeah, he is kind of dorky but there's still something loveable about him. I liked the other lady he took on after Rose (at least, I think she was after Rose. It almost seems like Rose left, the new lady came in, then she left, and Rose came back, and I missed some episodes somewhere in there, and I'll move this over into the Doctor thread because I'm really getting in to this, lol) better.

Delta, wow, OK, I feel very old now, because the original Doctor Who was out when I was a kid, and I'm only 33. I tried watching it when I was young, and I never really understood what I was watching, because like I said above, I had real trouble understanding the whole Doctor Who concept and why the actors kept changing (I thought it was like the Darrens on Bewitched) and it really irritated me, so I stopped watching. But I do like the new series, and I try to catch as many episodes as I can.

I seem to also have missed the whole Torchwood connection too, as I saw a 2006 episode that was dealing with the Dahleks vs. the Cybermen (well, the first part of the episode, I'm waiting now for part two which hopefully will air this Saturday so I can find out the outcome), and I'm enjoying the new series, and I think it's because of Tennant. There's just something about him that keeps me coming back to watch more. He was on Top Gear too, and just as funny. Anyway, with the whole Torchwood thing, I don't understand it, but I did think it sounded familiar, and didn't know why until I read over some of the posts in here. It's on Sci-Fi channel isn't it? Or perhaps it was, but is no longer? Obviously never watched the show, and hadn't watched Doctor Who at the time Torchwood came out, so I'm rather lost on that whole thing.

I'll tell you one of the episodes I didn't care for was the one with the group that was "Doctor Watching". The one with the guy that "met" the Doctor when he was a kid, and didn't remember that something had come in to his house and killed his mom before the Doctor could stop it, and he grew up keeping an eye out for the Doctor subconsciously, and then he met the gal that plays Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter, and that alien absorbs the whole group except for the first guy, and the Doctor at the end "saves" "Myrtle" (at least, her face) in that pavestone, and so she and the guy have that "relationship", and they say how it's not so bad because she won't age, and they can "do things"... OK, well, I had problems with the ending of that episode because I'm thinking, "OK, she can't age, but he can, and what happens to her when he's old, and then finally dies, and then she's left alone? Not real bright/responsible thinking on the Doctor's part." At least, that's how I felt. So, that one was not one of the better episodes for me.

Ah, "Love And Monsters".

I rather liked that one, since I liked the humor and the fact that it was from another character's point of view. You don't get that a lot.

I also rather liked they're music group. It made me laugh, with the "LINDA" thing.

Torchwood is a good show. Rather odd, but Captain Jack makes me smile. I can't remember if it was on Sci-Fi or not, but I don't think it was.

Best for me to leave the actual answers up to Cricket, since she's the one I go to for that stuff. Any Doctor Who question, she answers for me.

Which reminds me... I need to PM her about this past episode on Sci-Fi. I didn't get to watch it, much to my dismay.

Well, it's getting hard for me to try and catch up/keep up, because I was watching it mainly on BBCA, and then last Saturday I saw the Dalek (though I swear it sounds like Darlek) v. Cybermen episode on my local PBS channel (much nicer actually, because it had no commercials, and then I got to see a behind the scenes thing they did for it afterwards, so I may start solely watching it on PBS), and it's also on Sci-Fi, and oftentimes I'm finding that they're the same episodes on each channel. rolleyes.gif

I don't know that I much like Rose though. I liked the black lady better. Obviously unfortunately, I don't know her name though.

blink.gif Tara, the Ood episode is one of the few that I have actually seen! We're doing it again!

It's crazy.

Anyways, I loved that episode... because I'm a sap, I really liked the line:

Yeah... I try to catch this show on TV now and then. I have only seen episodes with David Tennant, so he's by default my favorite doctor. laugh.gif

My favourite Doctor would have to be David Tennant biggrin.gif Christopher Eccleston was good too, but i love David's energy. Rose is still my favourite companion, but Donna is moving up in my esteem. Satai, the black lady is Martha Jones. She wasnt bad, but not my favourite companion.
I have all of the 4th season, but im trying to be good and not watch it, as i dont want to spoil it for my best friend...

Season One:
Rose (1st episode)

End Of the World (First Mention of Cassandra, and Time War)

The Unquiet Dead (The Rift Story, Good for Torchwood Fans)

Dalek (Explination of Daleks)

Father's Day (Must Watch. The TARDIS is Rose's B!!ch. Is important later.)

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances- MUST WATCH! CAPTAIN JACK IS INTRODUCED

Boom Town- Good for Jack Fans, and better than AoL/WWIII

Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways: Bring your own tissues. Is awesomely awesome. Is imprortant for Torchwood and Tennant.

Season Two:
The Christmas Invasion- Not nessacary, but cute and well done.

New Earth: Erm... For Rose fans. And Wet!Tennant fans.

Tooth and Claw- Torchwood is introduced, and the werewolf CGI made the HP3 guys weep.

School Reunion- Is awesome, and should be watched. Sarah Jane Adventures is from this.

The Girl in the Fireplace- Lovely, but not nessacary.

Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel- Introduces Cybermen, and Pete's World.

The Idiot's Lantern- For Ten/Rose fans.

The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit- Not overly nessacary, but good for Torchwood fans.

Love and Monsters- Erm... yeah. Not overly fond of it, but it's not as bad as, say... Master/Jack fic, with bonus TARDIS.

Fear Her- Skip. Just... skip.

Army of Ghosts/Doomsday- Explains the Fate of Rose, and how Torchwood One fell.

Season Three-

The Runaway Bride- Introduces Donna, and reminds people of how the Doctor might become the Valeyard.

Smith and Jones- Introduces Martha and the Judoon.

The Shakespeare Code- Is awesome.

Gridlock- Funny, and finishes up the Face of Boe plotthread.

Daleks in Manhatten/Evolution of the Daleks- You need at least the recap

The Lazarus Experiment- This comes back to bite the Doctor and Martha.

42- Is good, but not nessacary to plotarc.

Human Nature/Family of Blood- Remember the Valeyard thing? Well, watch the end...

Blink- Scary.

Utopia/Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords- Delenn, you will love these, if you like Martha.

Season 4- I'll wait on this...

OK, I've been watching a lot of Dr. Who lately. So much so that I've taken out a Season Pass of it on Tivo on two different channels that air it, lol.

I'm just absolutely addicted now.

I loved The Girl In The Fireplace, but Blink is DEFINITELY my favorite overall.

I also much prefer David Tennant to Christopher Eccleson (sp?). I'm getting used to Billie Piper, but I still prefer the gal that plays Martha. Though I did really like the episode where Rose meets the previous Companion and there's the whole jealousy issue going on.

One thing about that episode I don't understand though. I watched the behind the scenes thing after the show, and they made a huge deal out of the gal that played the first companion. Why? Who is she? Why is she so important?

Ah, Sarah Jane Smith.

She was a companion from the original series. Both Three and Four had her. Which I find amusing, since Three and Four look VERY different. (On a side note: I want a Four Scarf. BADLY.)

Anyways, yes. She's a very nice woman, I liked her very much in "School Reunion". I'd really like to see her in the original series.

But, anyways... same actress playing the character, which is pretty much awesome. That's probably why they were making a big deal about it. How many companions from the original series come through? Not a lot, I'm guessing.

On a related note, I absolutely LOVE Five in Time Crash. I thought it was hilarious that Ten and Five met, because they are SO much alike.

I really need to see the original series. BADLY.

OK, you've lost me with the whole Three Four Five and Ten thing.

But OK, yeah, I guess that's the key information I was missing is that she was an actress from the original series (very different from the current series. I used to watch it from time to time as a kid, and later when they aired it briefly on the big PBS station in my area).

The original series I think, was beyond my brain comprehension capacity, lol. I liked the Sci-Fi aspect, but I had a real hard time following everything. I VAGUELY remember the Dahleks, but beyond that? Not so much on remembering things. Technology was WAY different then, and so the sets and the technological look of things varies vastly between the two series.

I do wish that someone would air the original again though. It would be nice to see it again. Apparently though, from what I remember when I talked to someone at the local PBS station about why they stopped airing the original Dr. Who, is that I think it's really hard to acquire the rights to it.

Because the fact that they now air the new series every Saturday night (with behind the scenes action after the show) tells me that if they could, they'd probably air the original too.

About ten years ago or so, they did manage to get the right to air the original, but only for a very limited amount of time.

I don't know who owns the rights to the the series, or why they make it so difficult for stations to air the original, but for whatever reason, they do.

Maybe there's someone who is selling VHS or DVD seasons of the original? Have you checked Amazon?

Maybe we can hope that Sci-Fi will fight to acquire the rights to the original series one day. They've put up big fights against other networks in the past to acquire the rights to air shows (can't remember which ones now, lol) so maybe one day they'll get the rights for Dr. Who as well.
