Has anyone ever watched the remake of Battlestar Galactica, on the Scifi chanel. I really love this show, it is way better than the original, and has a lot more originality in it also. It is nothing like Firefly though, it is basically a kinda political, millitary, end of the world, phrophecy, scifi drama, not a whole ton of laughs in it.

A friend of mine actually thinks that Firefly and BG have a lot in common, and I agree... they're both part of a relatively new trend in Sci Fi on TV, Naturalistic Sci Fi (though this has been around more in books and movies for years). Farscape, Babylon 5, even Star Trek or the original Galactica to a degree were more Space Opera... grand and epic. However, Firefly and the New BG, have the same, gritty, lived in look (partially due to having the same company doing the fx), and action that while unmistakably sci fi, focuses more on the reality of their situation, the humanity of the characters (both also have no aliens, Reavers and Cylons fill the needed sci fi role of the 'other', but they are still human to a degree, and are the creation of humans).
Galactica is far and away the best possible show to be the heir to Firefly as the best on TV right now. |
