Title: gourami fry in Tank with discus!
Description: gourami fry

Hi Guys,
Just observed our gourami spawning, on close inspection we have seen hundreds of gourami fry, swimming around under the water sprite in the leaves and roots, :D Daddy is constantly tending them, moving them around when they go out of range.
This explains why the gourami male has been chasing the discus away,!
Slight problem in that we are due to do a water change tonight, What do we do? Didn't plan on breeding fish! Male has been blowing bubbles for a while but nothing had happened before, the female didn't seem receptive ;)
Can we do w/c as usual? We will work from sides rather than centre to prevent us losing fry. Cannot get a fry net until tomorrow, so they will probably stay in tank, we are not sure about what to do for the best!
Can you help please?

hello siobahn, you could try to put a divider in,say a piece of thin perspex or you can buy proper tank divider, keep the male gourami with the fry for another day or so then take him out and leave the fry on their own.youll have to do a wc as liquifry or fry food tends to make the water foul quicker, and try to keep the lid on the tank down or clear of any draughts as the cold air will quickly see off the fry.good luck with your discus first and foremost.
cheers stevie

Hello all,
Just a quick update to let you know we have taken the gouramis out of the discus tank, they are back in with the other fish in the community tank. The fry are free swimming and i scooped with a jug the plants and as many fry as poss and moved them into a small tank with heater and light. Feeding with liquifry at the mo. We got a hatchery but the fry were too small to keep in it!
Done the discus water change and they are a lot happier now, swimming around as before, though there do seem to be 'scratches' on the side of the blue, not deep and he doesnt seem bothered by them. Was thinking of putting in some extra stress zyme as a boost, especially as they were a little bullied by the gourami, otherwise they are recovering nicely.
