Title: R O unit on a water meter

mcv - April 13, 2006 01:18 PM (GMT)
Hi All, can anyone give assistance. I now need a RO but am on a water meter.
I am thinking about the following, Using a 45 gall plastic drum filled with tap water TDS 250, Using a small pump send water via filters to RO, but send the waste water back to the drum, so I can have 2or 3 bites at it.When the drum contaminates build up it will be discharged. This will also enable the temp. to be increase to improve performance. Has anyone tried this, and what are the drawbacks except the cost of the pump. Regards, McV.

The most efficient and economic method to overcome your problem is to run the waste through a second membrane, and discard the waste from there, re-using waste from storage generates a poor flow through the membrane, and you will be dissappointed in the results...................

Thanks very much Granville, I assume I position the flow restrictor behind the 2nd unit.

That would be the best place for it, although it doesn't reduce pressure on the second membrane if you leave it where it is, remember to rotate the membranes every six months to get the best life expectancy from them,

hi mcv

how about putting a T peace on your inlet and putin you waste onto the T peace and send it back in just keep it goin round

Hey Lee,

It would put too much pressure (back pressure) on the waste, as it would be equal to input pressure, and probably prevent any water from leaving the waste, but it would be cheap on the water meter :D

You could probably design him a nice unit with the waste from the first membrane going direct to the second mebranes input side,

roman does a 300gpd Ro unit and it piggy back (or daisy chain) its waste to another two membrance. the reject ratio is about 1:1....

wouldn't it be better to tee into the water pipe outside the house. just a thought

Still use the water butt. Heat the water up and pump water to Ro unit with second Membrane for waste with much betttttter ratio's and you can set the water pressure to what is required. Only thing is don't buy a cheap Ro unit buy a Quality unit.
